US Men's National Team (20 Viewers)

===========

RMC report this evening that United States international attacker Timothy Weah is set to be sold by PSG this summer, after a moderately successful loan spell with Scottish outfit Celtic.

Crystal Palace, Rennes and a third unnamed club have positioned themselves to purchase the son of the President of Liberia and Ballon D’Or winner George Weah.

Initially, there were talks about a second loan spell with Celtic, but on Friday the 19-year-old said goodbye to the Scottish club via social media network Instagram.
I don't think his game suits the EPL...hopefully Crystal Palace is not the landing spot.

Frustrating game.  0-0 at half.  US has done everything but score.  Total domination.  8 shots to 1.  9 corners to 1.  Tons of possession but can't break down the bunker.

US up 2-0 now.  Busio and Reyna (pk) with the goals.

edit: 3-0, Pepi off the bench with a pure strikers goal.  Great to see as he has struggled this tournament.

Watched the second half... Dominant and skillful..on the ball and tactically. Fair scoreline at 3-0. That Leyva kid is something.

Really washes that bad taste our of our mouths. Thank you 16 year olds!
hey, we have to start some where :)

remember that the failures of the youth teams during JK's reign ended up being a harbinger of last cycles ultimate failure.

Maybe the current U17's and U20's can signal something better for the upcoming cycle....

I hope he just gets PT somewhere.

we all love his upside- but I've felt like he's shown too much of the inconsistencies of youth, switching off and/or making poor decisions... and he's slowly not getting any younger. PT, even in a second tier league or division will help iron out his game... hopefully.
It was depressing how little time he got in Scotland.  Almost every yank gets a ton of playing time in that league.  Unfortunately, Celtic is the one team where playing time is more difficult to come by compared to the rest of the league.

His next move is going to likely be the most important one in his career development.  He has to get significant minutes in his next stop, where ever it may be.

I really what transpired with the coaching change and mindset... hopefully he was told explicitly why the minutes dried up so he can work on it.

if moving, may not help his all-around game, but holland would be a good fit for the skills he already has, IMO.

germany would be great to push his complete game forward, if possible. not sink or swim, but a bit of that.

I mean, if PSG had him hovering around the first team last year, he must have enough of the intangibles (work ethic, attitude, etc) to make a good pro... I hope.

France's U20 roster is out.  According to twitter, the squad has over 300 appearances in the top 5 leagues in Europe.   That is just sick at this age group.

From everything I have read, this is not an Andrew Carleton situation.  Weah appears to be serious and hard working.  Hopefully he can find a loan or transfer where the coach likes him.

This is an interesting article and interview with Pepi.  It is worth a read.  You can see how much these kids put into being called up by either Mexico or US.  With Pepi it appears, at least for now, that the US stepping up first was key in his decision.  Hopefully it stays that way.

btw... even though I knew it, I just had to remind myself by checking twice that those were u17s in that game. they are SO good relative to where we were, andy. I felt like I was watching a decent pro game from the US kids- every player skillful and tactically really sound.

this chart may give a very good reason why you are thinking this

What has been really cool is that the U17's seem to be getting better every game under Wicky.

I guess it should not have been a surprise that the very first game under the new coach was rough but to come back from the rough game (which they still won) and then pummel that same opponent a week later is fantastic.

The play that Scooby posted was beautiful.   Look at how many players were involved in that movement.   I am not sure I have ever seen the senior side ever move the ball like that against any level of opponent.

It looks like Carlos Vela turned down a call up to the Mexican team for upcoming friendlies, claiming Club and Family come first.  Vela is playing at an extraordinary level right now.

I assume he will still be at the Gold Cup but this bares watching.

Very happy to see Pepi bag two more today.   I was fearing the worst when he struggled early in the tournament and was benched for Ocampo-Chavez, but getting 3 goals in the last two games hopefully keeps him focused and fully engaged with the US.

And I should also note that it is kind of scary to think with just a different flip of a coin, this strong side would also have George Bello and Efrain Alvarez in it.

The darlings of the U17 tournament are giving Mexico a real game so far in the other semi final.  Haiti and Mexico are 0-0 late in first half and Haiti has been the slightly better team so far.

Alvarez missed what looked to be an absolute sure goal on a botched clearance.

The stands are packed with Haitian supporters.  Very cool.

If Haiti advances to final they are going to be a very different style opponent for the US.

it would be great if he could get some minutes this weekend to help get rid of some rust before the friendlies start

Some #USMNT Gold Cup news: Am told that DeAndre Yedlin, as expected, is definitely out for the tournament after groin surgery

Almost none of this has to do with the current national team but I can't help but think Geoff Cameron, who wanted to spend his last couple of years of his career with the Revs to move back home, was issued a clear gut punch when Arena was hired to run the Revs.  I have to assume that door is significantly closed.

Oh and Arena is causing quite a twitter stir with his interview where he said "we did our best, not every one wins, I have nothing to redeem myself for"  talk about the night that shall not be named...........

Very impressive first half for the US vs Mexico.

The score is 1-1 but the US has dominated the game.  Busio has hit the post twice and Reyna cracked one off the cross bar.  Yow scored the goal.

Ironically, not only is the US dominating, the best goal for Mexico was setup perfectly by American Alvarez (edit: And also finished by an American)

The line breaking passes the US defense and deep midfielders play are fantastic.  They send Busio and Reyna away constantly in free space.

1-1 was the final score.  Off to PK's.

Much more even half.  The US started the half really well but then look to have totally run out of gas.  Mexico was the slightly better side in the last 20 minutes and could have won it late with a header that went off the bar.

This is the second straight U17 final that went to pk's after a 1-1 draw between US and Mexico.
