US Men's National Team (19 Viewers)

The truth is hard to discern from this mess.  I'm not inclined to believe anything the new Nantes coach says on this, so take it all with a big grain for now.  The main thing at this point I think is that Miazga and Chelsea have 9 days to find him a good loan.  He's 23, so the Chelsea academy is not a great place for him to spend the next 6 months, and there's probably no room for him on the senior team.  Championship or Germany would be ideal, but opportunities for steady minutes are not easy to find this time of year.
it is has been a very strange loan.  It started out well and then almost to the minute the new coach was hired, Miazga was tossed away with no chances to prove himself.

No one wants to see a player move backwards but he has to play.  If he doesn't find a Championship levelish type team, I would be ok with him even in a Scotland just to play.
fwiw... from Goal.com

The defender's time with the club appears at an end after the Ligue 1 side's manager said the U.S. international is back in England with Chelsea

Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic has slammed United States international Matt Miazga, claiming he faked a back injury and added the defender is now back in England.

Miazga joined Nantes on loan from Chelsea over the summer after a successful two-year spell with Eredivisie side Vitesse.

However, the centre-back endured a difficult season with Nantes, only featuring eight times for the club and not playing at all for them since October 7.

That match was the first for Halilhodzic after he took over for Miguel Cardoso and the 23-year-old American has been unable to play his way back into the manager’s plans since, even being dropped to Nantes II for a couple of matches.

Reports have filtered out that the former New York Red Bulls defender would be terminating his loan early, and it appears that may well be the case after Halilhodzic’s comments to media on Monday.

On Sunday, the Nantes boss made a cryptic statement during his news conference following 1-0 defeat to Angers, saying: “I do not know what is happening behind my back. Some even blackmail ... There are many things that are wrong and I am sad, very sad.”

He did not reveal the nature of what he was referring to at that point, but on Monday, specifically called out Miazga for, according to the manager, faking a back injury because he wanted to leave Nantes.

“The blackmail I was talking about yesterday was about Matt Miazga,” Halilhodzic said. “He assured me that he had a sore back. After exams, however, there was no problem... He just wanted to leave the club."

Halilhodzic went to say Miazga was back with Chelsea in England, indicating it was for the purposes of terminating the loan, though the defender neglected to inform Nantes of that decision.

“This morning Miazga was in England, in Chelsea,” he added. “He didn't warn anyone.

“These things bother me. But it has to be done with, even if it disappointed me a lot. "

Miazga will almost certainly be in the hunt for another club by the end of the January window, nearly exactly three years on from the start of his European career.

The defender made a $5 million (£4m) move to Chelsea in January 2016, and featured for the Blues a couple of times in the Premier League that season under interim manager Guus Hiddink.

But Miazga could never play his way into the plans of Antonio Conte, and spent the next two seasons at Vitesse, where he won the Dutch cup in 2016-17, prior to his move this summer to Ligue 1.

Adds some needed vet experience, but otherwise   .  Pecking order is most likely Trusty, McKenzie, Collin, Elliott.
I understand the order.  My question was more whether Collin will be enough cover at CB to allow McKenzie to be released for a couple of weeks this summer.

I guess Tab gave a whale of an interview where he was unusually candid and even a bit angry.

The interview is behind a paywall but I have read some excepts including this one below.  @NedI think he might be referring to McKenzie here :(

yup, it is McKenzie

Ernst Tanner pretty well just admitted that he’s the source of Tab Ramos’ angst over a team refusing to give up a player for the Under-20 World Cup. The player is Mark McKenzie.

article about Adams... worth the read.

eta: actually, it's a bit of a fluff piece without too much actual info. but the interview does get into a little bit of adam's thinking just before the move was announced.

“I usually go to school early in the morning for one or two classes, and then come to training. The school was OK with it, but one of the classes that I was forced to attend was gym,” Adams says. “I’m a professional athlete but I couldn’t get out of gym class.”

I compare his bullish attitude about Europe to an incident he had with Bastian Schweinsteigerearlier in the season. The two of them collided in a game between the Red Bulls and Chicago Fire, and when Schweinsteiger tried to extend a hand to Adams, the younger player waved away the Bayern Munich legend’s peace offering.

“I respect him, but sometimes players like him act like I’m supposed to bow down to them because I’m young or because of who they are,” Adams says. “I’m not. I know he’s a great player, but I’m there to help my team win.”

I thought this was going to be Fab when I read the first sentence...

FC Cincinnati is adding a player with U.S. national team and European experience to their roster for their expansion season in MLS.

Multiple sources tell The Athletic that Caleb Stanko is close to a deal with Cincinnati. Capped once by the United States national team in 2016, Stanko has been with Freiburg since he joined the Bundesliga club’s reserve side in 2011.

The 25-year old midfielder has made limited appearances with the German club’s first team since 2015. This move could help Stanko with getting more playing time as he seeks to reinvigorate his career and potentially integrate with the United States national team again. He made eight appearances with the U-20 national team but has made just a single international cap at the senior level, a substitute appearance in a World Cup qualifier in September 2016 against Trinidad & Tobago.

The deal is a full transfer and would utilize Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), per sources.

Keaton Parks to NYCFC is official.  Loan is for entire 2019 MLS season.
They also brought back Ofori today, so Parks (and Sands) have some MF competition for the “8” (the guy next to Ring that can get forward and support Maxi).

That being said it remains to be seen if Dome sticks with a 4-3-3 with the current attackers.

any hints on Villa replacement?

Not excited about this roster...who should I be excited to see here?  Any difference makers for Qatar?

If you are asking who might be on the roster for 2022 from this group, probably Steffen is the only lock imo.

Obviously both McKenzie and Trusty are very interesting young players, well ahead of almost any cb's in US history at their age, but being able to project them out to 2022 is difficult.

Djordje is the wild card since he may be the only number ten in camp and is the least experienced.

Out of the rest maybe any where from 1-4 players might make an impact this cycle but I won't even bother guessing

Aside from the homer picks in McKenzie and Trusty, I'm excited to see Rosenberry and Lewis getting shots.  Hopefully they get some meaningful minutes.

Rosenberry is another local that I think would be a good depth addition at RB.  He's a converted MF that would be best suited as a RWB - he seems at his best getting forward.

for me its the younger guys- djordje, canouse and especially baird (who got put into my news feed randomly midseason- exciting young attacking player from what I've seen- fearless. iirc rookie of the year).. but who knows if they even play. also who ends up pairing up at CB- some good, young options. and after lletget looked so promising when he first came into the team, I'm hoping to see more of that all-out, two-way speedy and skillful wing play from him.

I don't know all of the defenders, so I did some digging around on their primary positions with their club (based on transfermkt).  Crazy there's only 1 LB on the roster - WTH is with the US and the lack of LBs?

How does his making the cut for the January friendlies affect him playing for the U20's?  I thought once they're called up, they rarely go back down.

I think there's a bit of movement, especially if they don't really crack into the big-boy squad. but yeah- once a guy starts getting regular minutes, it's less usual for them to play back down.

is the u20 roster final? some top US players missing from that if so.

the U20 roster won't be final until late spring.   There is a deadline they have to meet for FIFA.   Tab still needs to sit down with Berhalter so they can figure out what to do with Weah, Amon, Sargent and Adams.

Garza was sent home with an injury early in camp.  He was the other LB invited.

It has been the cursed position for as long as I can remember.

Caleb to Cincy is now official

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati has acquired midfielder Caleb Stanko via transfer from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg. Stanko, 25, joins FC Cincinnati after eight professional seasons with SC Freiburg (2011-19) and FC Vaduz (2016-17), and a decorated history within various age groups of the U.S. National Team pool.

would be amazing to get all those guys in there. that said, I think Amon's the one that makes sense. he looked not ready for the grownups, but a bit of serious national team duty in the WC could be just the thing to get him over that hump.

I am leaning this way as well.

A part of me would love to see the US actually make a run at it for once (of which they would need Sargent, Adams and Weah).  With those three, the team has the look of at least making the quarter finals when anything can then happen.

But the other part says these players need to be in the Gold Cup to start building the main squad.

I guess it is a good, and rare for the US, problem to have so many strong young players.

the other part is that without those three, we need/allow other guys to step up and take those spots... which ultimately is better for the senior side having more players getting tested in serious competitions.

but agree- I'd love to see how we'd fare with our best players out there (even though a lot of other countries wouldn't have theirs either). I mean- CP just turned 20... did he age out? Swag? could be close to an actual senior starting side out there...

neither Swag nor Pulisic are age eligible.  I think the rule is the player still have to be no older than 20 by the end of this calendar year.  They both turn 21 in the fall.
