US Men's National Team (12 Viewers)

Best first half of the season for Leeds. They are up 2-1 but it could have been even more.

Before this game, if every Leeds game had ended at half time, they would have been bottom of the table. Hopefully that bodes well for a good effort in the second half of this game. Getting a point away to Spurs would be a solid way to end this part of the season.

Anyone else seen the comments about Roldan basically being another coach? He has been getting certificates and often gives input to coaches and players during games and breaks. I dont know this guy on Twitter, he has more details. Seems a good use of slot 26 to me.

Twitter link.

red card for Adams which at least gets him off the pitch in the 87th healthy. Tough end to the game for Leeds who gave up two very late goals to go down 4-3.

Both Aaronson and Adams had strong games for Leeds. Aaronson played the 10 role while Adams played his normal Dm with a partner in a 4-2-3-1.

Adams is playing the best soccer of his career and seems extremely comfortable when having another Dm next to him. GGG tends to only play one DM though

CCV went full 90, looks healthy and is jumping on plane.

As expected after going 90, Pulisic is available as a sub today. if there was ever a time to not play him, this would be a great one.

ok that was scary :( Pulisic on at the half and just drew a hard foul, and yellow card. Looks ok though thankfully.

whew, the end of that Chelsea game was a broken leg waiting to happen. Pulisic through safely.

Ream, Jedi, Haji, Dest, Weah and Weston all have games tomorrow.

I am very jealous of the teams who have lined up friendlies. I really wish we had something.

I would be happy if GGG has talked to another WC team who is training near by the US in Qatar for a closed door scrimmage.

Sargent was quoted after the game today as saying the US has a friendly on Thursday but he does not know who they are playing.

Ream had a good first half against United. He was way above average when on the ball and was good enough mostly when defending. He is clearly loved by the fans as they chant his name on every positive play.

I would love to see him start against Wales and Iran but probably not against England. Between his passing and Musah's dribbling, they would solve a lot of the base problems we have getting out of the back. The English announcer basically thinks his name is "Ream.. good distribution" he said that probably 8 times in the first half.

Jedi had a quiet half outside of two plays. One Ream smartly dribbled and opened up a right footed passing window which sent Jedi flying down the wing. He got by the first defender, not elegantly, and got deep into box but final ball was blocked. The second play that stood out was a poor defensive one. Man United sent a high ball into right side of box and Jedi was easily the first to it but his first touch was poor which ended up giving United a golden chance to score which they missed.

Dest is on for Milan. Should get a good 35 minutes today to shake off some rust.

Ream and Jedi with a tough 2-1 loss after out playing Man United for most of the game. They both went the full way and look healthy.

Lots and lots of minutes for the players this weekend but I think we came out healthy.

Musah 85
Scally 90
Reyna 45
Aaronson 90
Adams 87
Pulisic 45
Horvath 90
Sargent 84
CCV 90
Dest 34
Jedi 90
Ream 90
Weah 90

Haji's game was postponed
Turner dressed but did not play

Weston did not dress
Is he hurt still? Again?

Who plays that box to box role that Weston plays of he can't go? Maybe this is the way to get Gio, Brenden, and Puli on the field at the same time if Gio plays the 8 next to Musah.

Probably not... we'll get Acosta instead.

Weston has been hurt for quite a while now. If he can't play by the Wales games, I am going to assume/hope that GGG uses a 4-2-3-1

...............................Turner
Dest.............Zimm............Ream.............Jedi
...............Musah..............Adams
Reyna..................Aaronson.................Pulisic
.........................Sargent(or Jesus)

This puts Adams and Aaronson in the exact roles they have been exceling at for Leeds.

GGG ran one formation almost 95% of qualifying that looked like this (you can plug in whom you like on the * positions)

....................Turner
Dest......Zimm........Ream*.......Jedi
.......................Adams
..............Musah........Weston
Reyna*............Jesus*..........Pulisic

Wish it could be the other and move Pulisic up top in place of Jesus....

We have all wondered what it would look like with Pulisic as a false 9 but GGG never tried it even once from my memory. That doesn't mean he might not suprise us obviously, I am just going on what his historical trend has been.

Yup, that's my point. GGG is so wedded to that 1DM, 2x central midfielders, that losing Weston creates a hole. We saw that the team was nowhere near as good without one of the A-M-M midfield three.

But ignoring the natural pairings of Adams and Aaronson and Ream and Jedi wouldn't be wise.

If Weston can't go, the only change will be Weston out and someone plugged into that role (LDT, Aaronson, etc) as that is the system we've spent a year plus working on. I would be shocked if he chucked it all now.

Btw, Aaronson gave an interview to Men in Blazers last week that he likes playing the 8 in the US set up and it may be his long-term role.

Playing Ream along Jedi is such a no-brainer but like Andy has said, we need to be mentally prepared for Long.

Aaronson works hard and is a pest, but he gets bodied too. I think he's miles better on the wing.

Weston having such a unique skil set means we really have no like for like replacement for him. I am in no way expecting Luca will be ready in time, so that leaves Gio or Aaronson to drop back to the 8/10 role. Luckily both have seen time at that position in recent weeks.

I don't know what GGG has to do but I want CP, Gio and Aaronson all starting. There's zero reason, IMO, Aaronson can't just slot into Jesus' position in your second formation. That would be my best XI for the side.

Here is Mexico's squad. No Yanks from what I can tell on it. No Lainez either.

I haven't followed him this year, so I have no idea how he played. But you wonder if Julian Aruajo would have had a legit shot to make the US over Shaq Moore had he stuck it out.

The shine certainly fell of Jonathan Gonzalez as well.

Just shows that until these guys prove it at the HIGHEST level....what they do at 18 doesn't always mean that much. I mean...we legitimately thought that kid was the 2nd best prospect in our program. Now, at 23, he's being loaned out to Minnesota United.

No dual nat Yanks being selected to Mexico pretty much offsets the Pepi snub thankfully in terms of PR for future dual nats.

Everyone is in camp and training today except 4 players who are expected to arrive today

Sergiño Dest, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Haji Wright.

Current odds for USA WC games:
  • USA 37% - 31% Wales (32% draw)
  • USA 16% - 56% (26% draw)
  • USA 47% - 25% (28% draw)

Group B odds to advance:
  • England 89%
  • USA 47%
  • Wales 42%
  • Iran 22%

So much to talk about!

But first...FBG lockd me out because it decided to use some email addy from 20 years ago as my contact for confirmation of my account (in spite of my more current addy being on my profile/account info). I couldn't post until I confirmed the address, which was long ago forgotten. I was also working my balls off the last month, so just didn't have time/bandwidth to deal with it.

I genuinely missed you guys!

At work now, but will post later more in depth. Happy about Haji, meh about Morris and shuked about shaq. (I did it! The holy alliterative trifecta!)
