US Men's National Team (9 Viewers)

@NicoSchira

Christian #Pulisic to #ACMilan from #Chelsea is at the final stage for €23M (bonuses included). Contract until 2027 (€4M/year). #Milan are planning medicals and signing before Monday. #transfers #CFC

€4M/yr is less than half his current contract (just over €9M/yr the past 4.5 years). Sometimes salaries are reported differently in different countries, so I guess its unclear, but we knew he'd have to take a pay cut wherever he ended up. Regardless, it seems like he really wanted this Milan move so I'm happy for him and it seems like a win-win-win for both clubs and the player.
Italy has always reported strangely. I think it has to do with before and after tax.

That being said I am sure he took a massive pay cut.

That's what I was thinking as well. If the quoted number is net of taxes, he's done pretty well here. I mean, its fantastic for him to go to a club like Milan in any case, but that's not too much of a drop in salary if its a net number.
Italy almost always reports in net. Most of the time England reports gross. If that's true and given England's and Italy's top tax brackets... Pulisic has taken about a $1M paycut per year net. Significant, but not outrageous to get more playing time.

Arsenal plays in the MLS Allstar game this year in two weeks. Could Balogun play in that game? I don't quite understand if he will be training with Arsenal or not.

Almost certainly will IMO. He's already been named as one of the players to do the skills challenge for Arsenal. I think he'll feature significantly in the American tour for them... likely as a featured player while shopping him around for loan/sale.

Is MLS beneath Dest at this point? He seems to play so much better for us, I wonder if a few years over here would help him get back on track
I would hope he has one more try in Europe. There has to be mid level teams in the big leagues he could help. He does appear to play much better for the US than at club for what ever reason.

He's got two years left on a pretty nice contract. He's in a very difficult situation but Barca is right there with him so hopefully they can work something out.
They want to sell him but asking for too much. Clubs know Barca are desperate

"Unless you go to Europe, you won't get the best version of yourself. You won't get that out of MLS"

"Now that Gregg is back, he's very comfortable with the MLS and MLS Players"

Here is an interesting stat from Sciaretta.

Pulisic has not played more than 1800 league minutes since 17/18. It would be incredible for all involved if he could do a 2200-2300 minute season at Milan. Not only would that indicate good health but also likely good performance.

At 24 and with his body type and style and position, he probably about to start a 4 year run for his prime years.

come on, 23 will do it I bet. So close....

Fabrizio Romano

AC Milan and Christian Pulisic, getting closer. After personal terms agreed and player pushing since last week, clubs now close to agree on the fee €22m second bid submitted and talks progressing to final stages.

If I were Chelsea here I would gamble a little. They should grab a % of a sell on fee for Pulisic, who at 24 has one more big move in him and I still think some MLS team may break the bank for him if he has a good WC 2026. And even if not an MLS team, his value will be high for another Euro team as well if the Milan move and WC go well.

Good call on this as the Athletic reported the consideration includes a “meaningful“ sell-on clause. They also cleared up some earlier confusion by confirming his visa status, which I think we all knew was a mistake in the earlier reports. “Pulisic does not count towards the second [non-eu registration slot] as he holds a Croatian passport.”

I love when we know more than the guys paid to know this stuff :)

I‘m reminded of Arjen Robben who was often brilliant and scored some huge goals over 3 years at Chelsea but was constantly injured. He came from PSV injured and never seemed to get a run of more than a dozen games or so without some physical problem coming up. After a brief stint in Madrid he moved to Munich at around 25 and the rest is history. My friend who is a Bayern season ticket holder has said he thinks the Bayern doctors are just that much better than English or Spanish. Classic Bayern arrogance, but it does give some hope that CP is not necessarily doomed to an injury plagued career.

There’s also a 50% growth decree tax in Italy for foreign athletes going to Italy.

If RedBird hold onto the club for awhile I don’t see Pulusic going anywhere he’s going to be a huge selling point for the club to gain back the US following it once had if he and the club are successful

And based on what I'd seen so far in the GC, I figured this was going to be a Mex blowout, nailing the coffin on some of these older CR plyers. But CR has been the better team.

Oh Landon.....

Next he'll be suggesting that CP skip the Copa America to go surfing for 4 months.
He is clearly extremely risk averse.

His stance is not insane though when you consider that point. With being so averse, he obviously thinks it would be better to play a ton in MLS rather than not play in Milan.

He was very clear that the absolute best case would be for Pulisic to play a ton at Milan and kill it. He likely has a negative outlook on most things and that may lead him to think Pulisic will likely fail in Milan.

I have really high hopes myself, if he can just keep himself healthy for a decent run of games.

One point I was disapppointed that no one at the table brought up was the Pulisic was still very very good in WC2022 even with out regular club playing time.

Weah needs to get off to a good start as chances will be few this year.

Juventus has been removed from the Europa Conference league this year as part of a plea agreement with UEFA over FFP.

New update

================

Weah - official to Juventus
Pepi - official to PSV
Aaronson - official to Union Berlin (on loan)
Pulisic - Just needs medical (Milan)

Tillman - Nothing since the loan was cancelled by Bayern
Reyna - Vague rumors at best
Booth - I have seen the Man United rumor a couple of times but that is it

@tombogert

USMNT attacker Brenden Aaronson has officially joined Union Berlin on loan from Leeds United.
More Champions League!!
The 4 moves (if we assume Pulisic is done) are really solid so far.

Weah moves from an upper table Lille to an upper table Juventus
Pulisic goes from what should have been a good team, with no Europe next season, to Champions League
Pepi goes from relegation fodder to Champions League
Aaronson goes from relegation fodder to Champions League

Given how rough last season was, this is a great start to the summer!

Kick off is at 8:00pm ET (FS1) but set your DVR's, if recording, to record much longer since this is the second of a double header and if the first game goes into OT and pk's the US game may kick off later.

I’m sorry but that’s a ******** dive and call.
What's funny is that I thought I wrote at the end of my post above at halftime (definitely thought it)... Despite CR being the better team, I'm sure Mex will win a bs PK and blow it open

Long Monday Kicker piece headlined “American Nightmare” chronicling the match made not in heaven between Augsburg & #USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi. Most of it rehashes old ground but in this thread, a few key points. Stay tuned.

The piece again makes reference to the 45% stake in former club president Klaus Hofmann’s investment company owned by American investor David Blitzer (who incidentally in a podcast interview once referred to Hofmann as “the owner” of FCA which he strictly wasn’t).

Kicker says Pepi conveyed a relaxed & mature outlook on arrival but could have used that outlook on the pitch. Former coach Markus Weinzierl says “At the start of the Rückrunde (2nd half of the season), I gave Ricardo a few starts but his performances didn’t meet expectations.“

Weinzierl: “To get through the relegation fight I banked more on experienced players like Michael Gregoritsch, Flo Niederlechner & Andre Hahn. Nevertheless Ricardo with his 11 apps in 17 games was a factor in our total of 38 points.”

Kicker notes that Pepi continued to look decent in training but his production levels continued to disappoint in pre-season & then early season games under new coach Enrico Maassen. (He got a poor Kicker rating of 5 in his start vs. Hoffenheim.)

Kicker says Pepi didn’t look as though he belonged at that level & struggled with the robust way football is played in the Bundesliga. Pepi wanted to leave but Augsburg wouldn’t let their investment go until they signed Mergim Berisha before the summer window closed.

Ugh, Zendejas getting another start. What is going on here?

Rest of the lineup looks good.

1-Matt Turner (capt.), 5-Bryan Reynolds, 6-Gianluca Busio, 8-James Sands, 9-Jesús Ferreira, 12-Miles Robinson, 14-Djordje Mihailovic, 15-DeJuan Jones, 17-Alex Zendejas, 20-Jalen Neal, 22-Julian Gressel

Substitutes: 18-Sean Johnson, 23-Gaga Slonina, 2-DeAndre Yedlin, 3-Aaron Long, 4-Matt Miazga, 10-Cristian Roldan, 11-Cade Cowell, 13-Jordan Morris, 19-Brandon Vazquez, 21-John Tolkin, 24-Jackson Yueill

Here is the line up

........................Turner
Reynolds.......Miles......Neal..........Jones
.....................Sands...........Busio
...............................Milhailovic
.......Zendejas..............Jesus.................Gressel

Happy about Neal and Reynolds. A little surprised about Jones. Very surprised about Zendejas. I was hoping for Cowell and Gressel tonight but only got one of them.

I know the level of this US team is far from good but Canada has looked not quite great either. I expect a US win and hopefully by multiple goals.
