fwiw... the play happened and he slipped down- maybe heel catching, tough to say. he did walk off on his own, which is promising.

if you see the play, he's running towards the sideline and both feet kinda slipped forward. I thought maybe he took a kick or his studs caught a little... but it was tough to see on the replay on my phone at work. and as mentioned, he was able to walk off under his own power. I think he ultimately was the one to decide to end his own day and not chance it. really hoping it's nothing and he was just being understandably overly cautious.
 
I don’t agree with his premise (top 20) but ignoring that and even extending it to say a more reasonable top 40, it is a very interesting question

I would bet not that unique a situation for european or s american players.

but for US players or players from anywhere but those two regions? that's the history bit I brought up.

I would bet not that unique a situation for european or s american players.

but for US players or players from anywhere but those two regions? that's the history bit I brought up.

I bet it is pretty rare. Think of the rarity of the variables that all have to happen at the same time:


* Scoring at least 3 goals in a game

* Having at least 3 goals being scored by different players

* Having the 3 different players all from the same country

* Having all 3 players be under 25 years old

* Limiting the teams to the top X teams (which by definition are almost always made up of players from various countries, especially offensively).

see- I think the polyglot team makeup is a more recent thing, so I can see it having happened in europe, BR and ARG. definktely not a "normal" thing, for sure. but I don't think it's a count on one hand type of thing either.

I agree but the key here is the ranking. I don't think there are any Argentine or Brazilian teams listed in a top 20ish type ranking (if one even exists for the world). I think most people would consider the top 20ish teams comes from Europe.

But that being said, I certainly agree that pre Bosman, this probably did happen now and again.
 
This is one of the few big names from the youth ranks where I just don't see "it". But clearly plenty do

Probably happened for some Brazilians somewhere.
 
Bournemouth buying 2006 CB Matai Akinmboni from DC United for $2.5m plus a sell-on clause. This is great news because Bournemouth are a well run club and.....the sooner we get prospects moved out of DC the better.

Akinmboni is a pretty good prospect. He's more raw than a Banks but one of the best CB prospects we've produced (to be fair, we have a bunch between 05-07 that look to be better than anything in the 4 or so years previous to that). He turned 18 in October so this was as soon as he could head to England.

Sport Bild are reporting that several Bundesliga clubs including Werder Bremen, 1. FC Heidenheim, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Union Berlin and SC Freiburg are interested in Paderborn midfielder Santiago Castañeda.

Bild reports that Castañeda could leave Paderborn as quickly as next summer, unless something extraordinary happens. This news is even with the fact that Castañeda has a contract until 2027.

I am copying the following from September when I first heard his name.

Santiago Castaneda was born and raised in Tampa. In late High School he signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies but only played one game for the main club before rolling the dice and moving to Germany where he signed with 3rd division team Duisberg.

He played a healthy 32 games for them in his first season and was signed this summer by Paderborn, who play in Bundesliga 2.

I believe he has started every game for Paderborn so far.

Santiago plays midfield for them.

I do not believe Santiago has ever been called up to any US team to date. He is only 19 right now and is a dual nat (Colombia). His dad was a pro soccer player in Colombia.

Even in German I learned I was pronouncing his last name wrong.

hard to say at only 15 years old. I think he is tri-nat.

He has only played for the US so far, for what little that is worth at his age.
