Girlfriend and I planning a trip...... Arriving Wed. Sept. 8th and leaving Sat. Sept. 11th
GF emailed the below list of hotels to me to get your guys' opinion. Looking for a combination of nice rooms, good location, reasonable price. She's an architectural designer so interior aestethetics and overall modern design is important to her. Thoughts? The Hotel at Mandalay Bay

Palms

MGM

Wynn
Nice Rooms: The Hotel / Wynn

Best Combo = Wynn. (Mandalay is way down south strip)
Thanks. Just received this email from her and there is a mention of the Wynn. Anybody see this "Zumanity" show?

This City Center is supposed to be a big deal – lot’s of Star Architects each designed a different hotel. We’ll need to check it out – not sure we can afford to stay there but I can research more tomorrow. There is shopping and restaurants there so at the least we can check that out. Also, Olsen and I have been emailing about trying to get a date on the calendar and so after I told her we are going there and that I am interested in the naughty Cirque show she said we will absolutely love it – it’s called Zumanity and it’s at the NY NY hotel. She was in Vegas for a Harley show and went by herself – she said it’s incredible. She also said to check out The Encore at Wynn for rooms – apparently a younger crowd but she said the rooms are great.
I liked Zumanity. Don't have anything to compare it to though as for as the Cirque's go. It was a good time...funny, strange, interesting, etc. Make sure you go early for the free desserts.

Appreciate the tips on where to watch football, keep them coming. I used to go to the ESPN Zone in NYNY for the big screens and it's proximity to the sports book, but it closed down. Now, have to find somewhere new.
ESPN ZONE in vegas went broke??? :football: Jesus, our economy is bad. I wasnt worried until now.

That is crazy. Every time I've gone there I've had to wait. Usually for good sporting events though. Still like a good 'ol sportsbook though. Being able to use phone now is great.

The club in Encore I don't think is as nice as Tryst "Wynn". Encore is new addition on the Wynn property. Of the ones you listed Wynn is the nicest but probably most expensive.

If you are spending some $$ on rooms check out the Venetian - we stayed there our first time in Vegas and it was really nice.

Ok looking for a suggestion on the following:I don't really care what hotel we stay at.A few guys traveling to VegasLooking for the casino that has the closest proximity/ease of access to strip clubsAre any casinos located with walking distance to any of the decent clubs?Yes I am aware there are cabs, but humor me on this. Circus Circus appears to be somewhat close....?
The Hard Rock is the way to go as they have beautiful women inside and a 45 yard walk to The Paradise Club across the street. You're welcome.
perfect thanks

City Center is indeed supposed to be awesome but reviews have been mixed. Aria would likely be where you'd want to stay if you stayed there. Rooms are likely on par with Wynn but they're two different styles. Wynn is more of a warm artsy rich feel and Aria is more of a cool, futuristic feel. It really depends on what you're looking for. I really enjoyed hanging out at the Wynn with Assani and Chet when I was up there for March Madness. The Wynn poker room is sick.

If you're a poker player and are planning on logging some hours, you can get a SICK suite at venetian (prima suite) for about $149/night. Look it up.

I'd post over at 2+2 in the Las Vegas Lifestyle forum and ask where folks list comps that they're looking to share. There are a LOT of folks who will "Sell" their comped rooms at a huge discount since they live in vegas and don't use them.

I met a guy off there that gave me 3 nights at Mandalay Bay 750GR suite in exchange for a set of golf shafts. I was going to be paying him $300 for all 3 nights during march madness (fri/sat/sun nights) but we worked out a barter. He's no longer out there but there are a LOT of folks who work those deals.

You could end up saving a TON of cash.

The hotels are okay with someone else using someone's comped rooms?

 Met him in the lobby...he went in, got the keys and gave them to me. We had worked up a good rapport prior so he trusted me and used his card on the room. Some will ask that you show up as buddies and use your card on the room. Just depends.

So the other guy has to be physically present?I was hoping there was something you could print out and be good to go by yourself.

The couple times I did it the guy just called in and added my name to the room. He didn't even need to be there

I'm sure that would work too. I was this guys' "first time" in selling his comps (some young jewish kid who played $5 video poker for a living in the summer) so he went about it this route. My name was on the room though too in the even I lost my keys (told him I had a predisposition to doing so when hammered).

Golden Gate Casino downtown is now my favorite place to gamble

low minimums, and after 6pm lots of hotties in bikini outfits dancing, dealing, and jiggling all over the place. awesome :lmao:

Ok it looks like the Mrs. Ref and I are almost locked in for three nights sat Sept 25th. Don't know what Harrahs property we are going to land on, but it's probably going to be Flamingo or Ballys. Maybe pay $100 and stay at Paris.

Sat night - a show, probably Love. Not thrilled about paying as much for two show tickets as it's going to cost us to fly out from Boston and get 3 nights hotel. I'm going to try and hit the 2+2 board and e-bay to see what can be done to lower the cost. Maybe we will hit up a different CDS show.

Sunday ~2AM - $4.25 Prime rib sandwitch with steak fries at the Imperial Palace. A family tradition our first night in.

Sunday AM - she hits the pool, I hit the Sportsbook/Poker room. How is the Flamingo Sports book? If it's decent, I think this might be the winner in our hotel race. I know (or I should say, have been told) the pool is top notch by mid level hotel standards.

Sunday late afternoon - head over to the Wynn. We have never been.

Sunday PM - Looking at a nice resturaunt. From what I have read, Strip House is a nice joint? I'd think it's Top $$. I don't want to the Mrs. Ref to a crack house that serves steak, any ideas for a decent steak dinner out that will cost $100 and not $200.

Monday AM - more Pool/Poker

Monday late afternoon - monday "night" football. You west coasters have it right.

Monday night - Maybe try and get a 2-1 monday night special for Jubille or some other show. Any ideas? Also want to check out City Center. Also I'm interested in a drink at -5 bar.

Dentist would be ashamed of me, married over 5 years now so bottle service at Tryst isn't on out top 1000 things to do anymore. I'd be most interested in any ideas for the married with children, not going out drinking till 4AM crowd.

I know you want to watch your budget a little bit for your Sunday dinner, but I can't recommend Mix at Mandalay Bay enough. It's pricey, but damn the food there is outstanding. Been there twice now and both times I had the two best dinners of my life. And I've eaten at my fair share of nice restaurants. And the view from the bar is the best view of the strip I have ever seen. If you want to take your wife to a dinner she will never forget, Mix is the place.

The Ref has a new problem to worry about.

Mother Ref : why are you flying out on Saturday, why don't you fly out on Friday and make it a long weekend.

The Ref: well we said you would watch Ref Jr for three nights, plus we wanted to try and keep the cost reasonable

Mother Ref: Well if your going to fly all the way out, you might as well make the best of it.

Mrs Ref: Are you sure?

Mother Ref: Yes, absolutely. (as she walks out of the room)

Mrs Ref - Go book our tickets right now before she changes her mind.

Where are you staying? I'm going with a bunch of B&M friends, to gamble and watch football (no FF stuff). We'll be at the hilton from Fri-Sun.
Don't know - Dodds is doing that. I'll at Caesar's a lot doing FFPC stuff but will have tons of time for fun. Definitely want to meet up with you and any other FBGs that are out there.

Looking to get some random thoughts...

- If wanted to go to a comedy show the night of Wed. Sept. 8th what would be a good one?

- To watch the Vikings/Saints game on Sept. 9th....don't want to watch at a loud sportsbook with drunk degenerates in jerseys everywhere. Would like to be able hear the game with a cool atmosphere. From reading here it sounds like the Pallazzo- Emeril Lagasse's Stadium could fit the bill. Any other suggestions?

- After the Thursday game looking to get a nice steak dinner. Suggestions?

- Going to Zumanity at NYNY on Fri, Sept 10th....afterwards looking to have a nice sushi dinner. Suggestions?

- For one single night of clubbin' on a Friday night...where is the hot place to be these days? Tao? Moon? Rain? other?

Gotcha....well as i mentioned in my pm....no real schedule other than watching football at hilton on saturday/sunday. Given the fact that I'm with a big crew, I don't think we'll able to meet up anywhere specific (other than the hilton).....but you've got my #, so keep in touch.

Just got back from a weekend trip last month.

I have to say, that new hotel/building across from Planet Hollywood is atrocious. It makes the strip seem like downtown at any major city in the US. What I really liked about Vegas was that the buildings were all themed. This place just looks like your regular office building. Horrible.

Love O'Shea's. The atmosphere there is awesome.

I thought my last trip woudl be the last with O'sheas open. Nice to see they are delyaing (or maybe cancelled) tearing it down.I love that place.

The Comedy Stop at the Sahara is a cheap comedy show ($30 or so) and has never let me down. Just got back from the most brutal weekend. Lost at everything I played, didn't get enough poker time in and had 8 of us down there and all our plans seemed to fall apart some how. Consistently losing all weekend didn't help. Downtown was great, I second whoever mentioned Golden Gate downtown as a great place to play. The dancers were very hot.We played in NY NY a few nights they had one of the hottest girls up dancing in the party pit I had ever seen. If you're into the tall, blue eyed, long blond hair thing she was phenomenal.

Wierdo.

So, tell me about the monorail system....is this a better/convenient/more inexpensive way of getting from one end of the strip to the other than a cab?

From some monorail research:

- Mon-Thursday til 2am

- Friday til 3am

- $5 single ride ticket, $12 one day pass

I realize it only makes stops at specifc places....for my specific example I'll be staying at the Aria in City Center and have some things over in Pallazzo and Wynn area that I plan to go to (sports watching and late night clubs)

For $5 would it make sense to go across the street to Bally's to get on the monorail and then take it to the Harrah's stop (which is 3-4 hotels away from Pallazzo/Wynn) and then just walk the rest of the distance?

Or is just spending $25 on the cab straight from Aria to Wynn the better play?

Personally, I enjoy the walk and find it a good break from the casinos. There are some neat little shops along the way and the people watching is always great. Aria to the Wynn can be long if you don't like walking though so the monorail could break that up enough. Only time I've ever cabbed it is when heading to a club late and wearing a suit jacket or something. Waste of money IMO.

Thanks for the thoughts.4 inch heels and 100 degree weather is not a good combination that the gf will be wanting to walk 3 miles in so trying to figure out a plan in advance.

So, tell me about the monorail system....is this a better/convenient/more inexpensive way of getting from one end of the strip to the other than a cab? From some monorail research:- Mon-Thursday til 2am- Friday til 3am- $5 single ride ticket, $12 one day passI realize it only makes stops at specifc places....for my specific example I'll be staying at the Aria in City Center and have some things over in Pallazzo and Wynn area that I plan to go to (sports watching and late night clubs)For $5 would it make sense to go across the street to Bally's to get on the monorail and then take it to the Harrah's stop (which is 3-4 hotels away from Pallazzo/Wynn) and then just walk the rest of the distance?Or is just spending $25 on the cab straight from Aria to Wynn the better play?
My .02 I thought Aria was closer to the MGM stop but maybe not. If you have never been you should walk the strip once. Now the strip is longer than you think. You'll look and say Casino X is only 2 away and then you start walking and realize how far it really is. You are going to do a bit of walking just to get to the monorails and then Wynn. I was told don't know the truth as we did the monorail during the day that the monorail at night is a bad idea :lmao: Anyway if you take the monorail to Harrah's I recommend then going into the Venetian and taking that over to the Wynn via the Pallazo. It's not that bad now on the street but when they were building the Pallazzo that walk was awful. Oh and if this is the first time, make sure you tell the cabby not to take the tunnel. That adds an extra $10 to your ride.

Personally, I enjoy the walk and find it a good break from the casinos. There are some neat little shops along the way and the people watching is always great. Aria to the Wynn can be long if you don't like walking though so the monorail could break that up enough. Understandable. Cab will be the least hassle then. Sounds worth it to keep the gf happy.

Monorail is very inconvienent for those locations - Aria sits way back from the Strip - you'd have to walk across to MGM or Bally's - ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK(it's a long way) of those properties and then ride it up to Harrahs (because it cuts out to Convention center/Hilton)maybe or to the Convention Center and then walk a very long way from the back to the strip.Get a cab in the back of Aria - have it go the highway off Harmon - then Spring Mtn exit will take you into Wynn - if you are in a hurry - and stay off the Strip. Either that or catch the local bus that goes down the strip for a buck or two - that is a real treat for people watching.

Good info, sounds like the monorail won't be the right choice.Tell me about the local bus....how often is this running and where do I go to get on it?

It's called the Deucehttp://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/transit/s...85-23-10%29.pdf

Runs quite often - but stops about every 100 yards are so - can't miss the stops on the strip - and is typically crowded with all sorts of crazy people. On a Friday and Saturday it gets really crowded and crawls as the strip has very slow traffic. I've seen times where it comes to a stop and no one can get on or off.

They have another bus called the Ace (I think) that is an express type bus and doesn't make all the stops the Deuce does.

If you're just going somewhere to gamble or watch sports, walk or take the monorail or bus.But if you're taking the girlfriend to dinner or to a club, for the love of God just get a cab. Starting a nice night out by hiking up the strip or rubbing elbows with the cretins on public transportation isn't worth saving a few bucks.

Yep, realizing this now from the descriptions, and in agreement.

Going over labor day.

Also, Im going to check out rehab (staying at Hard Rock). I dont care if its jersey shore like. It something Ive always wanted to do.

Lots of Badgers gonna be there for football game.

I was told (but don't know the truth as we did the monorail during the day) that the monorail at night is a bad idea :pickle:
Hypothetical....would hopping on the monorail on a Thursday night at 10:30pm be an unsafe/unwise choice? Would be convenient to take it from Harrah's area direct to MGM, but don't want to bother if it's sketchy.
