Vegas (2 Viewers)

I was told (but don't know the truth as we did the monorail during the day) that the monorail at night is a bad idea :pickle:
Hypothetical....would hopping on the monorail on a Thursday night at 10:30pm be an unsafe/unwise choice? Would be convenient to take it from Harrah's area direct to MGM, but don't want to bother if it's sketchy.
I have been on it that late and felt just fine about it. That said, if I had my wife with me and she was dolled up I would get a cab.

You're relatively well to do fella. I would highly suggest cabbing it everywhere in Vegas at night. It's not THAT expensive and the walk to the monorail...then dealing with the crowds.... then back from the monorail stations...etc... is a hassle. So much nicer to jump in a cab, be there in a fraction of the time and be out a few bucks. :lmao: If I lived there I'd try to save cash on stuff like that, but honestly your time is precious out there. Budget a c-note for cab fare and be done with it.

Right on. That's what I figured but just wanted to confirm.I'm a guy that likes to think through all the details ahead of time and then while there just live in the moment based on overall knowledge gained. I'll bag any other ideas of transportation other than cabs at this point as not worth the hassle.

The free rail from Mandalay to Excalibur is hassle free.

Wont be doing anything in that area really. Farthest south ill be going is NYNY (Zumanity) and MGM (some gambling)
Just my 2 cents on the gambling at MGM - and maybe this is jaded by the fact that I have had several shows/conferences to attend there over the years and I'm tired of the place- but it really is the most blah place to gamble on the strip - the ambiance is average, the layout average, the dealers are not all that great, the waitresses and outfits are so-so, the bars are nothing extraordinary - no one seems to go out of the way to really make it above average all over that place - I suppose the poker might have some value for the style of game played there but I only have limited experience with that - I usually play craps. I will say the hookers there are very upfront when they are looking for business and craftsteak is nice for dinner. It really caters to the show/conference crowd and they know they will make some money on these people and don't have to do much beyond that.ETA: I'll add that Tom Jones plays there from time to time - and he is good and I would see him over a Cirque show IMO.

If you want to see "O", my connection was Patty, email address is pcllas@yahoo.com. I think she gets comped tickets and sells them. 100% rating on EBay. Gets them a few days before the show and delivers them directly to your hotel. Sure enough, I had the Bellagio envelope with the tickets inside waiting for me as promised. Highly recommend her. I think she only gets 2-4 tix per performance so inquire early.
 I've already got my section 103 tickets reserved through Ebay. I don't have to pay until September. The wife is very happy. Thanks again!

Me: 34

GF: 38

Want to do a Friday night club night....both enjoy a good night of drinking, dancing, chatting up hotties and of course :style: But, not really interested in an overcrowded space of 22 year olds and techno music.

After doing some research and picture viewing, as of right now our first choice is looking like Tryst in the Wynn. Anybody with any experience there?

I took the monorail from the Hilton to Harrah's at maybe 1am (cant recall exact time) once. While I was at the kiosk buying my ticket a large African American woman approached me wearing denim that was way too small on her. I knew she was a hooker, but I also thought she was about to just hit me up for change. She says "are you taking the train?" I'm like "yea" but not really paying any attention to her. Then she goes "you trying to get your #### sucked before that long ride?" Ummmm "no thanks"

I just sent her an e-mail. Anyone have something simular to for "Love"

OK - it apears that Patty rules. 2 tickets to Love on Sat night, 2 tickets to "O" on Sunday night - both in the 100's = $460.I wasn't really in the mood to spend over $700 on two shows, but mid $400's is a lot better.

If you want to make money playing poker, MGM has a sick win-rate with low risk. I'm a big fan. and the service is good.

Not at tryst, but the outdoor Ghost bar on top of the Rio was a very nice club IMO for a couple. Not over-crowded, sections where you can hear one another talk, and a cool view of the strip with nice bartenders and a dj.

FWIIW the wife and I are staying at the rio sat night for 2 reasons.

It was free.

So we can end the night at the ghost bar.

This is kind of what i'm looking for...dont want to be overwhelmed by high stakes and sharks...but also hoping for a decent atmosphere.VERY stupid question and i apologize in advance, but tables of poker in vegas casinos.....are you playing against other players like a 5 man home game, or is everyone at the table playing against the dealer?

Just booked Sept 26-29 with the wife. Only $820 for airfare plus 3 nights @ MGM Signature from Minneapolis...so we were happy. Shelled out $250 for 3rd row tickets to 'O' since it's the one Cirque show we haven't seen. Hopefully can win some $$ @ MGM poker to pay for part of the trip.

Can anyone suggest a good restaurant with atmosphere as good as the food? We're leaning towards Mix or N9ne. Our current favorite is SW.

Maybe you you should stick to Black Jack...J/KYes...cash games like home games at Vegas

On our way out there for the opening of football weekend. We're all going to the Saints game on Thursday night at the dome to watch the banner get raised, then leaving the next morning for Vegas. Background - all 6-8 of us are married, and we basically like to gamble, watch sports and get drunk. Nobody will be getting hookers, there may or may not be a strip club involved. We went last year during this time and had a blast. We're staying at the Hilton for a few reasons:1. Best bang for your buck sports book IMO. Drinks are free and as long as you tip $1 each time, they're pretty much non stop2. NFL Sundays they have the spillover into the theatre for the NFL games, you have to pay for drinks, but they're not expensive at all3. Close to downtown...yes, downtown - last year we "re-discovered" gambling downtown....we can all sit at a $5-10 blackjack table together and get hammered and pretty much be jackasseslooking fwd to it :lmao:
Looking for a few food recommendations on the strip on Friday night for this group. It could end up being that we end up eating close to wherever we are when we get hungry....but I'd like to have a few options in my back pocket just in case.Nothing fancy at all, prefer something more casual.....looking in the $10-$20 entree range.TIA

If you didn't know the answer to this question, honestly man, you probably shouldn't play. Or, if you do, let me know which table you're at that weekend...But yes you generally play against 8 or 9 other players. The house makes money by taking a set small portion of each pot and earning tips. For value at a casino, it's quite good IMO.

BTW, odd request for help on getting rooms this weekend. It's 2 of my co-workers last weekend here so six of us nerds are headed up to the Hard Rock for a Meatloaf concert (I'll be playing poker during the concert). I'm trying to book rooms, and travelaxe is just crushing me. Figure I may call a couple places tomorrow and try to get a suite, but otherwise looking at two rooms in a hotel near the Hard Rock. Anyone ever stay at the bluegreen 36 club/resort on Tropicana? They are close to the Hard Rock and priced pretty well on travelaxe. I have players cards all over, but don't accrue much in terms of points because I only ever play poker.

I can see it now. All of the players at the table can gang up on the dealer and keep taking his money, then we all split up the winnings afterward.

If possible try to get on the list, we had our concierge at the Venetian hook us up. You have to get there early, I think we got there at 11 but there was a long line and we were able to skip the line and go in with no cover. If you can't get there early to try to avoid crowds. This was 6 years ago so not sure if it changed, the music was a good mix, old school rap, new dance, techno etc etc. I'm not a club guy but I did enjoy myself there. There is no where to sit, it's all table/bottle service if you want to sit. When I checked with the waitress she was going to "hook me up" because it was just my wife and myself, she said she could hook me up for $250. LOL that probably is the normal price, not sure. I know 2 drinks we ordered were I think $36. Beer was $9, I think. It was not overly crowded when we went, not sure if it was Thursday or Friday. It got crowded later but maybe I'm getting older but whenever my wife wants to go to the club and I do go, I feel "old". I'm 38 but I think part of that is I don't like the club scene in general.Like I said this was 6 years ago and I really did enjoy it.

Really? You'll have much more to worry about than the sharks.

Guys, as clearly stated I knew it was a stupid question but just wanted to confirm.I do know how to play poker and playing against other guys at the table was what I always thought. What threw me for a loop was I downloaded an app for the iPad a few nights ago called "Casino Poker"....within that that app there are 3 games and one of the games is called "Casino Hold 'Em" where your hand plays against the dealer (and not against other players at the table). I was like, WTF, is this really how hold 'em is played in casinos (basically like how Blackjack is played but in Hold 'Em form). I sure as hell hoped not, but thought I better confirm.

offdee,

The best way to play 1/2 NL hold em at a casino is to just play tight. If you must play a subpar hand, make sure you aren't calling a raise (just the $2) and that you are in position. Don't get cute with bluffs. Be mindful of how much is in the pot at all times and how many people are in the hand along with their position.

It won't be as fun because you're not playing a ton of hands, but you should be profitable playing this way.

Thanks for the thoughts. There is a forum over at jackcolton.com and through some research and posts I received a PM from some dude hooking me up with a couple of club contacts that you can text in advance to get on the guestlist and supposedly skip the line and get in for Free. As of right now planning to go to Tryst in the Wynn as that seems to be a solid location for the full Vegas club experience, mix of age ranges (including mid-30's for us) and a more strict dress code which will somehwat deter the Ed Hardy dbags from taking over.

The game on the iPad is weird....it's basically played like Blackjack but in Hold 'Em form. Dealer gets his two cards, I get my two cards and then I bet along the way based on the flop/turn/river. If my hand beats the dealer I double up. If I fold or my hand loses to the dealer he takes all my chips. So, just like blackjack each player's hand is played straight up against the dealer and not against other players at the table.

As said, I never even considered this is how it would be played in the Casinos until I mistakingly downloaded this.

That'd be an awesome suite rate but I'm not going to touch six hours of play. Just going to play while they go listen to some old fat dude talk about doing anything for love.

Np. I'm a bit fuzzy on that trip as we hit 3, maybe 4 clubs because the wife wanted to try it. I was 33 and she was 37 and I definitely didn't feel out of place there. However, my wife still enjoys clubs and she's cougary now.... :lmao: I think it's usually a good mix. I don't recall what the dress code is actually there. I knew I made sure there were no issues. I had either black slacks or black "dressy jeans", with a buttoned up :style: shirt, and some decent black shoes.Of the ones we went to I did like Tryst the best. Tao I didn't give a fair shake because I was exhausted by that time. Last night. It also helped we had open bar from 5-8 every night :blackdot: that helped keep costs down .. :lookatme:

Yeah, I played that table game once. Maybe at the Venetian. It pretty much sucked and had little in common with real Texas Hold 'Em. Almost any two cards are playable. No raising.Texas Hold'em Bonus Poker

If you like Mexican, there's a place called Diablo's Cantina, on the outside corner of the Monte Carlo. It's not the food that makes it cool, but the atmosphere in my opinion. Sometimes you can get a seat outside (if it's not too hot)...basically right on the strip, good for people watching, decent food, nice looking waitresses, great atmosphere.Diablo's Cantina

I do know how to play poker and playing against other guys at the table was what I always thought.
There are some "hold em" casino games. I don't even know what those are really.

Yeah, I played that table game once. Maybe at the Venetian. It pretty much sucked and had little in common with real Texas Hold 'Em. Almost any two cards are playable. No raising.Texas Hold'em Bonus Poker
When I was there in January a few of the guys in my group swore by this game. They spoke about low table limits ($5 a hand) but that's per bet! It costs you like $5 to ante, another $10 to see the flop and then another $5 each to bet the turn and the river. Plus $5 for the bonus which is what my friends loved. I sat down with $200 at a $5 table and lost it all in about an hour. Meanwhile my friend to the right of me was getting dealt all kinds of AA & AK hole cards which is when you get paid off on the bonus.

I hated it.

offdee,The best way to play 1/2 NL hold em at a casino is to just play tight.
As of right now I'm planning to play at MGM with this in mind. Do you suggest a different/better place to play 1/2 NL hold em?Have heard can make some money at MGM, but the scenery/casino experience isn't the greatest.
I actually like the MGM poker room. It's right next to their sportsbook and a fairly cheap and decent deli type sandwich place. The game there is also very soft. The Bellagio is probably the softest 1/2 game but not by that much. I'd probably rank them Bellagio>MGM>>Venetian>Caesars>>>>the rest. The Venetian has the best tourney structure IMO if you would rather play those.

There's got to be more to it than that. It seems like with that you could fold the bottom 1/2 of hands and take the top 1/2 of poker hands and max bet every street and come out ahead. Am I thinking this out wrong?

I personally find MGM the softest given their 200 max buy structure, but I can't argue with this list.

Bellagio would be the most convenient for me anyways with staying at the Aria. Good to know.
