Vegas (3 Viewers)

Wanted to got to Ka but looks like it's dark on Sunday.

Love, Zumanity or O ???? I'm leaning toward Zumanity any thoughts.

We are staying at the Excalibur as we needed to keep it budget and family friendly. I think I will use the "sandwich" method upon check in to try to get an upgrade on my room.

Leaving Wednesday morning and staying for 5 nights. Going to have a bunch of friends and family out there as well. Should be a great time. What is a good site for getting Cirque du Soleil tickets? Also need a place to watch the games on Sunday is Stadium in Pallazzo the place to go?
Could use some tips on places to get discounted tickets. Thanks
Go back one or two pages - "Patty" is the Cirque hookup. $450 got me 2 tickets to Love and O in the 100 section.
Thanks I will check it out.Leave in 40 hours
So to make sure I have this straight. This Patty sells tickets on e-bay and the will deliver them to the door of your hotel room.Is that about right?

Thats about right. She has a perfect e-bay score and she has delt with a few of the guys in here so I'm optimistic it will work out. You e-mail her what show you want and on what day. She sets up a private auction on e-bay. You buy them. You tell her when you get to town and at what hotel, and then she drops them off.My best guess is she works for cirque somehow as a mid lever-manager/sales weasel and she is doing this to make some extra bucks. I do think she needs a few days of lead time to work stuff out so if you are going to try and use her I wouldn't wait to get ahold of her...Good luck.

One week away.I won't be able to sleep a week from tonight.
No S? Mr and Mrs Ref fly in next Friday night.
We leave to come home Saturday morning. I'll probably be pretty wiped come Friday night but we'll be downtown. How about you?
Boo... We don't get in until Late friday night/Sat AM - and the plan is to check into Rio and hit up the Voodoo Lounge for a drink.I would have loved to meet up with SL Bob and talk Oil and Gold Invesitng.

Care to translate into english?
$20 in you palm when you give them a hello handshake.
$20 between license and CC
"Sandwich method" I love it.Does it actualy work?
Yeah it works. I use a sandwich method variation. I call it "the fan". CC, $20, DL all fanned-out so there's not mistaking the intent.

What can a room upgrade even consist of there?

Larger room or strip view. They might be wising up to the trick now a days. Wife and I took the kids to Excalibur in May and they had a large colorful placard on the checkin counter showing what upgrades were available at what cost. Vegas is dead these days (compared to what it was), so we received a "complimentary" upgrade to a larger room without even asking.

From Cheapo Vegas...
Ask for one of the "widescreen" rooms and get newer furnishings, granite counter tops, better beds and a flat-screen TV. It's still just okay, though. The basic guest rooms are getting outdated, have dumpier bathrooms and TVs, and still have cheesy kingdom furniture. They are cheaper, though.

The Sandwich Trick is also known as the $20 or $50 trick depending on the quality of the hotel. We got a corner suite and Strip view waaaaay up on the 24th floor for out twenty bucks a while back.

The other couple that the wife and I went with got the exact same room two floors below us as well.

I've found that if I stay in my suit from work that I'm pretty much guaranteed an upgrade whenever I check in, anywhere on the strip. It's like 6/6 so far. Also much more likely if you're just staying one night

That's good advice. Also, try to get a male desk clerk. I've found them to be more receptive to giving away upgrades. One guy gave me a corner room and had a bottle of champagne sent up to my wife and I after checking in at T.I.Not to say female clerks can't be helpful, but you always run the risk that they're PMS'ing.

I can generally agree with this - especially for the free upgrade without even asking. With the males it also helps if you have an attractive female with you. However, I would say I've had success with a female clerk by just trying to be calm and nice and asking one thing about how her day is going, etc.

None of those are particluarly budget friendly....Mystere is probably the cheapest. Zumanity is the one I haven't seen...I've heard mixed reviews. Love is pretty cool, especially if you like the Beatles music, obviously. 'O' is the most popular show but about $150 for a decent ticket.

Hey,

Will be in Vegas in 6 weeks. Staying at the Gold Coast.

Looking for a cool place to sit and listen to a band and drink with friends and family. I have heard the piano bar in NYNY is cool

Any places known for decent cover bands?

tia

I forget the exact name but one of the lounges in Planet Hollywood has some pretty good cover bands come and play there.

My only experience was during march madness. I had booked a basic room at MB with a 750GR upgrade. I was checking in and there was a young latina. I just smiled really nice... slipped her a $20 with my ID and asked if there was anything bigger available. She went in back and bumped me to a sick suite over at TheHOTEL at the end of the building with a fantastic strip view.

Yep. Just got back yesterday. Our "O" tickets were off the hook. Dead center row J...some might say the perfect spot I'd guess. I also asked for her cell phone number before I left and actually texted her when I was there since the tickets were not waiting for me upon check in. She delivered them at 2:30 on the day of the show (my second day in Vegas), exactly when she said she would when she texted me back. We saw the 10pm late show so that gave us plenty of time to gather tickets, go to a nice dinner, and head to Bellagio.

Allright so I'm staying at the Rio Fri-Sat because it's free and we move to Caesars for Sunday-Monday. I'm paying $150 for a basic room but I'm thinking I want to suprize the wife with something a little more upscale. Is it posible to do the $50 sandwitch and get upgraded to a suite, or do I need to up the reservation to a deluxe room and THEN do the $50 trick?

Thoughts?

Golden Gate Casino downtown is now my favorite place to gamblelow minimums, and after 6pm lots of hotties in bikini outfits dancing, dealing, and jiggling all over the place. awesome :goodposting:
Stayed there one year. I #### you not, the beds are 5 feet long...It was nice though, they let us misbehave a LOT in the casino and never said a word.

If you are talking Caesars on Sun-Mon - there should be plenty of rooms open unless some convention is going on - so I wouldn't upgrade to deluxe room and possibly be stuck paying more. Just try the trick. Did you call the Rewards desk on the room at Caesars? - call them back and see what they have for your player category-mention your story about the wife to the agent- I've seen their system and it's like a airline - they have an algorithm that constantly changes prices to maximize their reservations.Rooms at Rio are pretty sweet at their base - but on Fri-Sat it's a lot busier so the upgrade may be much tougher.

I used this site to score good seats for KA for $55. Flying to Vegas next week.

Problem is my player category is going to tell them that I'm a cheap poker player and not a whale.... You are right that it won't hurt to give them a call though.I wasn't even going to bother at the Rio other then to hit up the desk person with a $20 to try and get a better view. The way I see it is they are giving us a free room on a Fri-Sat night so why push the envelope.

How bad is the cab line going to be on Friday afternoon (flight gets in at 12:30)? Would it be worth it to get a car to pick us up? 4 people going to the hilton.
shuttle is almost always faster/cheaper than the cab line from my experience as long as you're going to a strip hotel.
Going to hilton...slightly off strip. Do the shuttles make multiple stops?
They do. Most hit a half dozen hotels or so. Not sure what else is on the same line as Hilton, maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be first stop.
Does the train run to the airport? I know it runs to the Hilton.

I wouldn't dismiss it - your play got you a free room at the Rio on the weekend and that is nothing to sneeze at - the drop off to Sun-Mon night stays is pretty big and Harrah's wants rooms filled and your loyalty. You might get a sympathetic agent - talk them up and make them laugh and seem like they are having a good time. They are in a big room in the basement and could use a boost.

not yet. I think it actually got voted down in a bond package, but is going to get built by some other interest group instead and lease to the city. Or something.

I don't think so. As I recall they wanted to run the monorail from the airpot but everybody with a cab/limo had a stroke over the plan so they nixed it back to just runing between MGM and Hilton.

Airport Expansion

The Las Vegas Monorail Company is currently in the planning stages of a proposed expansion to McCarran International Airport, which would help deliver Las Vegas visitors to their business and vacation destinations along the Strip.

This phase of expansion planning includes seeking environmental approval(s), securing appropriate entitlement rights through the Clark County Monorail Franchise and finalizing a ridership forecast for the expansion.

Check back soon for updates...

Here's a mini trip summary. Stayed at Paris from Saturday until red-eye flight back Tuesday night. Never stepped foot in Paris before. It's just ok in my opinion as far as layout/atmosphere goes. The room was very underwhelming, felt like a Hilton Garden Inn basically. But, the location on the strip is pretty solid. Walked up strip to Harrahs/Venetian/Pallazzo three different times during stay and it's not bad at all. I liked the vibe at Planet Hollywood next door better, although I didn't game there at all.

Eats:

Kerry's Gourmet Burgers (KGBs) - (Harrah's) - It's gotta be new because I stayed there in March and don't remember it. Had a fantastic burger (the one with blue cheez) and the prices are super reasonable. Definitely can go there when a game is on as they have multiple large tvs in the dining area.

Koi - (Planet Hollywood) - We wanted to go to a sushi place before the 10:00 "O" show and picked here. We were not starving either as we ate at Kerry's earlier in the day. Ordered the kobe pot stickers, two cut rolls and two hand rolls. Very tasty. Pricing seemed ok but I'm as up to date on my sushi places as I should be...total was about $80 with tip.

Tao - (Venetian) - Went here Monday night. Was trying to get into Emeril's stadium to watch the games but they kept saying they had nothing open. So, we were a bit underdressed for Tao, especially me, but I don't give a rats ###. Food was good...pretty expensive...great atmosphere.

As far as Emeril's goes, it's pretty cool. Not what I expected as I thought it would be larger with more tables (sorta like ESPN Zone used to be), but if you can get in there it would be great to spend the afternoon watching games. Definitely call a few days ahead to reserve a spot.

Since I was with the wife, I didn't gamble as much as I normally do. I was positive on football thanks to going 2 for 2 Saturday after I got in, had a good Sunday hitting a 3-teamer and some straight plays, and all my Ravens plays won. If I hadn't missed my largest bet of the weekend on the Chargers in the final game it would have been nicer.

Pretty much treaded water in blackjack. Played some roulette with the wife...of course we lost, it's roulette...but it was fun. Finally started to play craps on Tuesday before we left....found a few $5 tables, which turned to $10, at Harrah's and cashed out up $390 in two hours. The table next to us went nuts at one point...a guy there won $20K for hitting all points 4-10 without repeating the same number twice. Nuts. After dinner I got another hour in at a $10 Paris craps table and won $295 more. I'm itching to play right now...but I'm guessing that's not normally what happens on craps tables (I normally don't play craps). No poker for me this trip.

What did you think of O?

What did you think of O?
I was real friggen tired. I'm not gonna lie it was real hard keeping my eyes open at times. Wish we would have went to the earlier show, but that just would have interrupted football more. I think they are dark on Mon/Tues, so really we had to go Sunday. That said, I'd say it was good, not great. They do some crazy stuff and it's very well done. Maybe I just don't "get it". I enjoyed Zumanity just as much. Those are the only two I've seen. If it was up to me, I would have chosen the Beatles one, and I'm pretty sure I'd have enjoyed that more without even seeing it.

I liked the beatles one, but I'll say that the stage being in the round, or whatever you call it is super irritating at times. People entering and doing crap all over the place. Felt like you couldn't really follow everything.

Looking for some FBG opinions here. I'm looking for a good place to eat with the wife on Saturday night before LOVE. We are staying at Caesars and obviously the show is at Mirage. We don't mind walking a property in either direction but don't want to turn this into a hike as she will be in heals. Like to keep it under $150 and atmosphere is as important as the food.

Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's restaurant) @ Caesars is great. It's right by the sportsbook too.

Just got back from "O" a few hours ago. Very good show. "Patty" her information is in this thread was great. E mailed her on Thursday and she had great tickets for me for tonight. $200 for 2. Section 103 row M great seats. I will be using her again. Thanks for the tip.

We fly out at 9:00 pm so I have on more day in LV. Might just be a pool day as I'm tired of drinking and have not had any luck with gaming.

Another great Vegas trip.

Anyone have any poker room recommendations? Going there in early November for SEMA and would really like to play in a few tournaments. Never played in Vegas before.

My favorites are Bellagio and MGM. Also liked Binions, Venetian and LVHilton. Did not like: Rio, Monte Carlo, Luxor.

I was just there a couple weeks ago for the first time...through recommendations in this thread played at Bellagio and enjoyed it. 1/2 NL Hold Em ($200 max. Buy in)...play tight and only play monster hands equals hours of entertainment with free booze drinks and can make a few bucks.Didn't play in any tourneys, but heard the venetian is the place for those.
