Aria just called me out of the blue to tell me they would extend the offer of 109/night and 25 in freeplay and 50 meal credit per day all the way to April for any day out to March, and same deal weekdays after March (sort of hard to explain, but hope this makes sense). They said if you put in code ARIALV you get the same deal except 159 on weekends, but call them and they'll cut the rate. Again, I have 0 relationship with them unless somehow the casinos are sharing info. I'm nearly 100% MGM/Mirage guy as far as player card etc.
Is this by booking through their website or somewhere else? I tried on the arialasvegas.com site and it didnt work.

They called me for this so I assume they will take it over the phone. I didn't try to book it online yet. Usually it's been my experience calling the hotels directly gets you a better rate than what they put on their website. I mentioned this and that's when she talked about the ARIALV code if I wanted to book it later.

I'm pretty sure all the City Center Hotels are owned by MGM/Mirage. I've gotten the same offers and I think it's just because I'm on Bellagio's mailing list.

oh, well that has to be it then.

Monte Carlo...thoughts anyone? Stayed there? Sportsbook good (for March Madness)?

Pretty cheap rates and some 2 for 1 deals. Probably more in line with a place like Luxor, where I have stayed before.

I called and asked them about this. They said it must be a casino marketing rate for MGM/Mirage player card holders. Did you have to promise to play a certain amount or anything?

Anyone have any suggestions for a somewhat reasonably priced strip hotel with rooms with more than 2 beds / 1 bath? Looking for a place for 3 guys and although a cot would be acceptable for #3, would like to have more than one bathroom / shower.

Will probably end up making more sense just to get 2 rooms (like we've done in the past) but figured there may be an option to save some $ or get a nicer room by doing 3 in one.

Nope. It may be a casino rate tied to mgm/mirage card. Heading out in 12 days.

I think Monte Carlo is much nicer than Luxor. Nice rooms, nice casino. But I know nothing of the sprotsbook. Sorry.

It is.

The Palms seems to have pretty good deals right now. It was $69 a night for a basic room Sunday and Monday last week.

HFS will that be running for march madness? What kinda minimums?
Wow. It's just a matter of time before you can just make a bet through your phone at a Vegas book from anywhere. That might be the end of offshore books. And Vegas could use the business.

Just an aside:

I moved away from Vegas because of the economy, and I am not sure how much it can bounce back. It isn't just the real estate crunch Vegas is feeling; online gambling, in all its forms, as well as legalized gambling all over the country/world is what is also killing Vegas. When Vegas was exploding, there was no online casinos, and there weren't a lot of places to gamble. Serious gamblers had to go to Vegas or Atlantic City. Now, no matter where you live, there's a casino of some kind within driving distance.

The big Asian gamblers (and there's no bigger gambling degenerates) can go to Macau now. Serious poker players play multiple tables online. Casual players can sit at home in their underwear, and play whatever they want. Sport gamblers play online (although the sports books were never big moneymakers anyway).

My thinking is that Vegas has to rely on conventioneers, and party kids. And the thing about the party crowd is that the casinos subcontract all the nightclubs out, so they don't even see too much of that money. All the top clubs are operated by third parties, and most just have lease deals with the hotel, or give a percentage to the hotel.

Moving forward, I am not sure the gamblers will ever come back the way they used to, and there's more casinos, more hotel rooms now. What Vegas needs on the strip is contraction.

Interesting take massraider. Was your job eliminated or did you leave voluntarily? Where did you move to? Did you like living in Vegas while you were there?

I'll let you know all the details. I'll pick one up first thing and try to take pics of the interface and stuff. It's likely someone has done that already, but I'm not finding it.

I left voluntarily, once I realized that if my job disappeared, there were no other ones out there. I loved Vegas, and would go back in a second. My opinion about the future of Vegas kind of evolved as I talked to people there: gamblers, people in the hotel business, casino managers. Heck, even builders. I remember articles about illegals living there, who were going back to Mexico because there was no work. When illegals are crawling back under the fence to Mexico, you know things are bad. Some interesting stuff people may not know:When the building explosion was going on, there was actually like a lottery system set up. People were buying so fast, you couldn't just walk in and buy a house. You were put on a waiting list at various realtors, and if you were lucky, they'd call you and let you buy a house. A buddy was out there 5 years ago with a handful of money, looking to buy, and couldn't even get a call back for 4 months. Best move he never made, in hindsight.A couple years ago, entertainment, food and beverage surpassed gaming for percentage of hotel/casino revenue for the first time ever. Now, that can be spun that hotels were building up the other revenue streams, but the fact is they had to start turning a profit in other areas, because gaming was declining. Entertainment and name chefs were originally brought in just to bring in bodies, thinking they get a comped show/dinner, and they'd leave the mortgage payment on the craps table. It was that way for 40+ years. some of these chefs were given amazing deals. I heard the details of the deal Todd English got when the Bellagio opened, and it was ridiculous. Those deals are over. Now, hotels want to make money on the restaurants and shows. They have to. A lot of the freebies and perks are gone. It used to be you could play quarters at a video poker game at a bar, and drink all night. now, most places have a system in place where you get one free drink for every $20 played. Big difference. City Center just opened, with 4,000 more hotel rooms (I think that number is right). That's not what Vegas needs. City Center can only cannibalize MGM's other properties, especially a monster like the MGM Grand, which costs 2 million a day, just to open. That'll also mean 2 or three more nightclubs, which Vegas also can't afford. Those clubs rely on bottle service, and there's only so many people willing to do bottle service on any given night, and these clubs are so big, 500 people looks empty. Bartenders at Jet 4 years ago were making 2 grand a week, working 4 nights, now that number is probably closer to 900. Like I said, I think the bigger problem is the gambling online, and the casinos all over the country/world. For years, Vegas was the only game in town, aside from Atlantic City. The monopoly is gone. I will be interested to see the first places that close their doors. The Trop seems like the first to go, but I think a big dog like Treasure Island, Harrah's, or even the Rio will fall in a few years.

Just booked my sixth(?) trip to Vegas at IP for 4/28 - 5/1 because it was the cheapest on the strip by far $122.08 total for 3 nights. Next closest was Excal at $193 and Flamingo at $196. I've stayed at IP a couple times before though and survived. Will keep an eye out over the next few months for any great deals though.

Haven't checked yet... any good poker rates at good rooms?

I got a room at TI for $40/night on priceline. Taxes and the resort fee bumps it up to about $70/night though. Resort fees and no free internet are annoying but seems like everyone is doing them now.

I am stunned they still operate the Bally's hotel. I thought they'd close it to just a casino years ago. I was also under the impression that most of these celeb chef joints are basically rent free. The big nightclubs too basically just have to pay overhead otherwise even at 750/bottle it's deep in the red. I think the turning point was when the alladin was built and went bankrupt before it actually opened. The Rio will be fine. That note is long paid off. The real problem is if MGM folds. They want 600k for their cheapest apartment in the city center. 600k for 600 feet. At that price point plus probably all the HOA crap and taxes you could have a bigger place renting out a room at any number of hotels on the strip as long as you'd want. I can't wait to see what a ghost town Aria is. I'm not even sure what to expect.

Has anyone seen any early reviews for Aria or stayed there themselves?

I am heading out at teh end of January and plan on staying there.

TIA!

Not been there yet, will probably be back in Vegas in March, but my old roomie went and checked it out, and was pretty impressed. I think once everything there is rolled out, the clubs and so forth, it'll be the kind of place (City Center), that you never need to leave. Everything will be there.

That will be one of my early ventures. I won't be staying there but will scope out the casino at least and get the general vibe. My guess: Nice and dead.
