Vegas (2 Viewers)

Looks like we're doing a last minute trip to Vegas, me and my gf and another couple. Been to Vegas a bunch of times but not in in about 18 months. Any thoughts on any cool new stuff? Good shows?

The only major thing I can think of is Hakkasan, new club at MGM. I've heard some bad things about it from locals, but they are a finicky lot.

If you guys want to see any Cirques, I have to toot the O show. It's the best of them all!

Love - all week long and twice on Sundays.

In all honesty you really cant go wrong with either, its just the matter of taste and how much you like the Beatles.

Absinthe (at Caesar's) may be new enough that you missed it previously. Best show I've ever seen.

Going to Vegas for the first time with the wife this weekend. I know it's not really possible, and everything is relative, but anyone have tips for not spending every dime you have on food? We'll be having some nice dinners, but we're going Thursday - Monday, and don't want to go broke on food.

We're staying at Paris btw.
What ever you do, make sure you have one dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. For such a great location its really not that expensive.

Consider going to Lotus of Siam - it's on Sahara east of the strip and would take a quick cab ride. Some of the best Thai found anywhere and easy on the pocketbook for what you get.
A good cheap late night snack is the "Secret Pizza Spot" in the Cosmopolitan. Hell, its good for a slice midday. Top floor down a hallway between the sushi restaurant and tapas restaurant.
From what I've read, word on this place has gotten out and the lines can be QUITE long as the evening goes on. That said, reviews are it's a great value.
Tacos El Gordo is the other place for late night cheap food...

See, I was going to suggest doing a ton of blow...

Daylight at Mandalay Bay is killing it on the pool party circuit. Their Eclipse (night swimming) parties on wednesdays look amazing. The night club, Light, on the inside is considered by some to be the top club in vegas now selling out the last two weekends. The cirque de soliel acrobats putting on a show over the DJ in time with the music is supposed to be amazing. When combined with arguably the best light/video system in Vegas...well.. it's a visual kick to the balls. Youtube for videos... it's intense. Getting in ain't easy right now... presales required.

I want to expand on the above, flippant answer. If I was taking a significant other to Fremont Street, only the GN would do.

Having said that, my notebook indicates you may be planning a guys-only football weekend. In that case, there may be other options. The D (formerly Fitzgerald's, I know, it's stupid) has a bunch of recently-renovated rooms in the tallest hotel tower downtown. They have some corner rooms with wraparound windows, and can be had for about $70 on weekends. Their suites can sometimes be had for under $100, and look really nice. Their sportsbook, however, will not pass muster with someone accustomed to LVH.

The Plaza has also renovated, with furniture and fixtures from the mothballed Fontainebleau project. The rooms will be about the same price as the D, but the sportsbook has been completely redone, and should be roughly comparable to the Nugget, and superior to anything else downtown.

The former Lady Luck is reopening soon as Downtown Grand. They aren't taking reservations yet, but it probably will be in the next month or so. There will likely be some bargains available as they try to put heads in beds.

I am leaning toward the El Cortez Cabana Suites for my bowl game and Wild Card extravaganza in January. Some of the best blackjack and video poker anywhere, and bars of every description have sprung up on that end of Fremont. But it's a 3-star hotel on its best day. The niceness of the hotel is low on my list of priorities...obviously.

The Golden Nugget is still the nuts downtown. It's a AAA Four-Diamond hotel, which I don't think any other property downtown has a prayer of ever achieving.
Thx. Great info here. Our group is currenlty debating staying downtown vs. LVH. Every time we've got we've stayed at the LVH b/c of their huge sportsbook (we stay all day saturday and sunday for football), but do all of our table gaming downtown (all day/night friday and saturday night). There's something great to just wake up, walk downstairs and plop in a chair at the sports book. On the flip side, staying right were all of the action is for the night time is nice too.
decided on staying at the plaza. 50% of the cost of the LVH and we liked the reviews. can always cab it over there if we dont like the book at the plaza

A week from tonight I'll be there. Used to go 2-3 times a year, now married with a daughter it's strictly once a year for my "convention". Staying at the Aria and looking forward to dinner down at the Venetian at the Grand Lux.

I hate cabanas. MFers charging you hundreds for shade.

The cabana is technically free. You just have to guarantee a minimum spend. Ours is $2k for Friday at WET. For 7 guys at $10/beer and $16/drink that ain't hard to hit
Cabana we got at the Wynn was $500 for 9am-5pm on a Saturday. Alcohol not included.
To clarify, I'm referring to the party pools not the main hotel pools. For example, head across the way to Encore Beach Club next door and a cabana carries a 4-5k F&B Minimum on a saturday.

I'll be there the weekend of the 25th. Let the countdown begin.
:hifive:

Turns out 1 and possibly 2 of our guys are going to be held by by military training drills (AF pilots) in Altus, OK and won't be in till 5pm on Friday, so we've moved from a poolside table at Wet Republic on Friday, to a Poolside Daybed at Daylight Saturday. Host Brian Sweet has been badass... he's the head host there for light/daylight and is the podium guy, meaning he has final say on everything (read: we can't get bumped or moved off our prime spot by someone else).

He gave us a deal ($1k min instead of the 1.5k min). Appreciated that in the event 1 or more of our party are under the weather that morning... but realistically I expect everyone to be at full strength and for us to crush through the 1.5k min spend. Kinda stoked to move from random house DJ at Wet on Friday to Krewella headlining at daylight on Saturday. They're a little bubblegum vocally but musically it's some solid dubstep/electro that will provide a solid soundtrack on a sunny crowded day at the pool. Plus they draw a great crowd (including lots of attractive females).

I'm kinda pissed that when I stayed at The Hotel in April 2012 that this pool wasn't there. I was underwhelmed by what was there to the point I missed the Go Pool at the Flamingo.

The times I've looked into it they are about a $400 fee. You can get shade, furniture, and drinks at the pool bar for no fee.

It's a silly expense unless you have a large group.

When I go in the summer the cabanas are nearly all empty because the price is so ridiculous. Most pools have very little shade. So it basically comes off as charging $400 for shade.

You'd think it would be better for them to get people in there during certain times for a reasonable cost. If it's just my wife and I, I'd be willing to pay $100. They could fill all the cabanas for that and have people staying longer, buying more drinks, etc...

Does that include tip? At $13 drink (assuming half beer and half mixed drinks) thats 22 drinks each. Stay hydrated, my friend.
That does not include tip. Of course not. Figure ~30% on top of that between tax, autograt, and such.

Food ($20ea)

Bottled Water ($8) - everyone will drink 2-3 each

Snack Tray for Table/Cabana ($75-100)

Drinks for "Guests" (you don't get a cabana to stand around and play elephant walk... well, at least *I* don't)

It is not difficult for me to put back 14-15 drinks over a 6 hour period of partying in 100 degree heat....at all.

Other perks to booking a daybed/cabana/etc:

• Most folks wait in lines of 1-2 hours... in 100+ degree heat. We walk right in.

• Most folks pay a cover charge of 35-60 bucks per guy. We don't.

• Most folks wait in long ### lines for bathroom. Our security walks us thru the crowd, past the lines, and stops traffic while we piss

• Most folks have to fight crowds of sweaty guys for 20min each time they want a drink. We have a Offdee 10 bringing us everything.

• Most folks have to pay $20-40 for the day to rent a locker to store phone, wallet, etc. Daybed/cabana has safe.

• Most folks have to fight for a place to sit around the pool as there are no free chairs. We have comfortable shaded spot to sit when we want.

The benefits add up quickly. I'm not saying it's a no brainer, but if you have the disposable income and don't mind paying a ~20% premium over a normal day at the pool... it's nice to have the perks of a table/cabana/daybed. Not to mention, generally speaking the hotter chicks are all looking to get into cabanas daybeds. Some are just bottle rats, some are worth keeping around. Security helps you sort through that.

We nixed the cabana at wet due to 2 of our party arriving late friday and moved the party to a Daybed Poolside at Daylight. We were offered a $1000 min (down from the $1500 min) though I know, looking at the menu, that we'll hit the $1500 easily. It's all relative I guess. $300 for a great afternoon at a helluva party with "open bar" is not a lot of money.

You are confusing hotel pools with pool parties.

They are two completely different things. If you want to go to the lazy river at MGM and watch Ned and Gladys from Minnesota trim their toenails while listening to Jimmy Buffet... by all means.

If you want to go to the big pool parties that are stacked with amazing talent, world famous DJs, and a FAR FAR more fun vibe, then you will:

• NOT find "free shade" by the bar. It will be 3-5 people deep all day.

• NOT get a cabana for $400. They all, without exception, come with 4 figure food and beverage minimums.

• NOT find all the cabanas to be empty due to lack of demand

• NOT find open lounge chairs. The few they have are gone within minutes of open, or have $200-500 food and beverage mins attached.

Two different things completely. You can get a steak at chilis, or you can get a steak and carnevino. Saying "they're both beef" is a bit disingenuous. :)

Come to Daylight on Saturday while you're there and drop by our Daybed. I'll be happy to buy ya a drink and show you firsthand what the difference is :banned:

Stayed at the Cosmo again this summer...world class place, highly recommend it. The wrap around balcony was money for 4th of July and lots of insanely beautiful people there. Cabana wasn't bad ($500) since it was midweek.

Went to Encore beach club a few weeks ago and had an upper level private cabana area with our own bathroom. That's a good time. No chance I'd ever do a day time pool party without some kind of private area.
 what was your min? Who'd you book thru?

What is the best site to see what concerts / shows / etc are going on?
You mean traditional SHOWS or all musical concerts?

Most of the clubs require you to go to their sites to see who's spinning. I don't think there is a centralized clearing house for that info.

Kinda both. Concerts would be sweet though. I've seen most shows.

Still on schedule to leave tomorrow morning. Survived two business issues that took $500 out of my pocket, a hit and run where someone rear ended me today and I managed to get the license plate, then finally washing my last clothes and the pump on the washer I think died. Hoping tomorrow is better or I'll be in trouble out in Vegas.

:lmao:

Damn... and I thought we were bad off because our Bachelor threw his back out Sunday afternoon and was having major back spasms that had him bedridden. Good drugs and some electro shock action have him feeling 90% today.... hopefully all goes off without a hitch.

As an aside, the kid's nickname is "Dangers" because he's ALWAYS hurting himself. He's broken his hand not once but TWICE on those "pay to punch" machines in bars. He's torn a hammy in kickball. etc etc. Dude is made of glass. Good times

How the hell did he break his hand on that? They have practically no resistance.

Gotta love Vons Grocery delivery...

Placed an order online via web and used the mobile app. Scheduled a 1hr delivery window for free delivery and a free case of water for signing up. All our beer, booze, mixers, snacks, pedialyte etc for the trip will be dropped off at our room. Likely for less than we would have paid at Walgreens on the strip.

lol at pedialyte.
DON'T HATE! #### WORKS! :hangover:

Seriously though... knocking back a bottle of water and half a bottle of PL, with the balance and another bottle in the AM seems to help avoidance for me personally. Not to mention obviously avoiding cheap champagne and make sure to drink a half gallon+ of water during the day (spacing water bottles in periodically).

Try Coconut water.

I've also had success with charcoal tablets but you have to take them every few hours while you're drinking and your #### comes out black so it requires some commitment.

I'll definitely be hitting the coconut water as well. The pedialite is more of a before bed / early AM thing.

Vegas weekend is kinda like BBQfest here in town.. a 3 day bender of late morning to early morning drinking. I used to be impervious to hangovers but now that I'm in mid 30s I have had a couple ones that were bad enough that I take some basic precautions. Nothing like wasting 1 of your 3 days in vegas in bed wishing for sweet sweet death.

Looks like we might be booking hangover heaven to come out and drop some IV bags in our suite on Saturday morning before heading to daylight. Not a bad value...$200 room call then $100/head for 1 bag of fluids and prescription anti nausea meds :lmao:
