Vegas (5 Viewers)

Not a big fan of the changes on hotwire. Got really comfortable with knowing what all the resorts are and now i have to learn it all over again. Not having good luck finding a good hotel deal for October 7-11.
If you have ever signed up for a players card at any of the Hotels, you might trying the number on the back of the card.  I don't gamble a whole lot, but NYNY gave me a couple free nights the last weekend of September this year.  Might be worth a try.

I have never seen Absinthe so I can't help there. Regarding sports books, I think the Venetian sports book is much better then Mirage. I usually bet $1k on the games and I do that Saturday night and it's enough to get me two reserved seats for all day Sunday. I'm not sure if that's the magic number or not, but it works for me.  It is awesome having a reserved spot because you can roam without fear of losing it.
Is this typical for Sunday football?

Certainly going to hit up the Mirage books for Champions League while my wife is at her conference on Tues/Wed, but may skip the NFL piece if it is a mess or that expensive.

Headed to Vegas the first week of October.  Is this show a must-see?  I was thinking of seeing La Reve or O, but should we see Absinthe too or instead of?
Absinthe is a "must-see" IMO. There's no show like it. There are cirque shows (beautiful, amazing technical production, etc.) and there are comedy shows (comedians, hypnotists, etc.). Absinthe is an insane combination of the acrobatic beauty of Cirque with the raunch and humor of Vegas comedy. Sooooooooo good. I've seen it three times and go every time I'm back in town.

By contrast, 'O' is wonderful, but kind of sleepy. Very glad I went, but wouldn't consider going a second time. I've heard the same about LaReve.

Well, I'm not sure what you have to get to get a reserved seat. That is what I usually bet and it's enough for a couple seats. It could be much less than that.

And you can always just get there early for a seat and not worry about it.

lol, 3 people have given me 3 different recommendations.  I did see LaReve about 10 years ago.  I'm leaning toward Absinthe and Raiding the Rock Vault.

@Dentist @kutta @parasaurolophus any of you got suggestions on seating at Absinthe? Looking at tickets, it seems to be about $150/person for the VVIP seating (first row) and about $90/person for a 5-person table in the back. We have five people, cost isn't as big an issue as comfort and quality. Apparently first row is cushioned seating and you're *in* the action. Back section is further away, but everything I read said the views are just as good and some people say it's a better experience since you have a little more room and your own table and stuff. Thoughts?
I paid extra for 2nd row seating, and it wasn't any better view than those in the back of the room.  In fact, the back of the room has some big "throne" like chairs that looked awesomely comfortable.  I'd save the $300 for gambling and sit in the back.

Does the Wynn give any free drink tickets with bets?....I'm used to the SouthPointe where a $ 10 bet gets you a drink

Anyone know if there are any strip sports books that give freebies?
I'm almost positive that there are no books that give free drinks out anymore w/o showing tickets.  Westgate was the last to do so and now they give one ticket per $25 bets IIRC

So no more drink tickets anywhere is what you're saying?  Or you can get drink tickets, but when you go to use it, you have to show a bet ticket?

Back in the days when we probably had no business being in Vegas it was an absolute goldmine when a bunch of dudes got up and left a ton of tickets, or you'd just get them handed off as someone was leaving.

They have them.  you just have to ask at the betting counter when you place your bets.  And you'll generally get a certain number/total $ bet. 1/$25, 1/$100, etc.

They give tickets with bets at the wynn. I dont know the threshold. I usually turn down most of them so I dont really pay attention

Most all places give drink tickets. Just ask. The nicer the casino the more you have to bet for a drink ticket.

I've seen it and it's awesome.

I'd definitely get the table in the back and spend the extra dough on other fun stuff.

The table is absolutely the way to go...not even a doubt.

To be frank, I don't know why anyone would rely on drink tix at this point anyway.  Maybe if you are a beer guy, but I like cocktails and I can't remember the last good one I got with a drink ticket.  They are always bad pours and watered down by the time I get them.  I have just become that guy...I bring a fifth of vodka and some soda in my backpack (or whatever), post up in the spot I want at the book I want, and get up to order large glasses of ice at the nearest bar, light up a cigar (if I'm in the right book), and Wa La, I have the best cocktails in the joint and am in Vegas heaven.

How's the Bellagio's sportsbook?  I'm not a huge betting guy, but I'll be there over a Sunday and I'm betting the wife need time to recuperate in the mornings.  Since the NFL starts at 10am there I figure I could spend some time betting the NFL.  Having never done this before, do you just place a bet and sit and watch the games?

My group is generally around half beer guys so they come in handy.  And like I said, back in the day, I'm talking like college days when we had no money.  I made some Wa La cocktails last time I was out there, it's a been like 5 yrs though.  Heading out this Sunday with the wife til Thursday, and a few buddies will be out there til Tuesday

Never been to the Bellagio book. But yes, just go bet and watch. But get there early because lines get long in the morning. You may want to bet the night before so you don't have to worry about it on Sunday.

Extremely small.  That's not the best end of the strip for sportsbooks to camp out in.

If you really want to have an actual place to sit on a Sunday morning be prepared to be in the lobby by 8am, 7am might be better.

If you are a beer guy they don't really help much either. I still tip on the free drink so I can either pay 1-2 bucks for a crappy corona or whatever other cheap crap they have or I can drink my own beer that I buy at Total Wine in Summerlin on my way back from hiking and enjoy local beer that I cant get in Wisconsin for basically 1-2 bucks a beer. I realize it means I have to make some trips up to my room or I have to be a bit strategic in my planning, but I would much rather enjoy a good beer. So I have absolutely become that guy too.

Fat tire is a well distributed beer I happen to like a lot though that is available at the caesar's books.

Mandalay bay actually has some decent choices for beer in the book that tickets are valid for. My wife really likes Brooklyn Brown Ale and on hot days I very much enjoy the Firestone Walker Pils.

Yep. Just place some bets and Wa La hours of entertainment. I personally love parlays. This way I can make bets that involve literally every single game that will be on a screen and I am not out very much money.

I wouldn't do the table in the back. It is a small venue, so most seats are close to the action but the floor does not incline as you go back (of if it does, it's very slight) so I think the sightlines wouldn't be too good. If you don't mind the $150 for front row cushioned seats, then that would be better than the table. My wife and I sat about 5-ish rows back and the seats were great.

I'm a beer snob too...but there's something about just sitting my ### in a chair and having Chona at the Westgate bringing me Miller Lites all day for "free".  Adds to the vegas experience IMO

C'mon nothing says Vegas like strong IPA's all day!  Me after a few hours =  :X

Gonna need you guys to fight, or race each other, or a spelling bee, just something to break the tie. TIA
I'll attempt to break the tie for you. The tables in the back have more space, more room. If you're a, ahem, bigger guy, the table in the back is more comfortable. The chairs everywhere else are VERY small. Unless you're seriously a petite fella, the standard chairs are tiny and you'll feel squished. And they are wood - hard (I don't know if the table chairs are cushioned or not). But if you value breathing room, the tables in the back win.

My one cent.

There's no wrong answer imo. Your group will love either choice. Sit in the back with a table all to yourselves, or sit up front and probably get roasted by the MC.

If your group is on the heftier side, the table is probably best. Those seats are really close together.

It's too bad we can't still subtitle threads on this fantastic board...Vegas - Wa La! :)

Most places I've been are patient with new players, just be up front about not really knowing what you're doing when you get to the betting counter.  I WOULD recommend you maybe make the bets the night before so you're not holding up a line of a couple of hundred folks while the bet taker explains spreads and whatnot to you on Sunday morning.  You won't feel so pressed that way and he can take his time helping you figure out what you want to bet.

Great advice. Heck even bounce it off the guys in this thread or the wagering thread first too.

Sucks having the guy behind you who is addicted to gambling freakin out while you are placing your wagers.

I typically write all my bets down by number and amount on a different piece of paper. Do not use your phone to jot it down. They will make you put it away at the counter.

I usually do four parlays at a time if there is a line and just get them all in at once if there is no line.

When i get to counter i specify if it is a parlay or a straight bet. Then i read the numbers and then i say the amount.

So for example lets say it is a four team 20 buck parlay and i want denver, atl, tenn, and philly i will say...

"Parlay. 452, 454, 456, and 458 for 20 dollars."

Full strength bottled beer is always the best choice for a Vegas free drink.

Where to go to buy (good) beers to keep in the room?  We're staying at the Flamingo.  I'm heading out for a bachelor party in a few hours and am not sure if I'll actually do it since the free light beers will probably be the best choice, but if I'm holding up well Sunday I may opt for that during the games.

I think you can buy beer at Walgreens and there is now one not to far from the Flamingo: Flamingo, the Linq, Harrahs, Casino Royale, Walgreen's.

Looking for some hotel advice. Going to Vegas in October primarily to see a show at T Mobile arena. I'm looking for something that is an easy walk. It looks like New York, New York is close. $580 for two nights seems expensive. The Tropicana across the street is about $150 cheaper. I haven't been to either hotel before. Is the New York, New York worth an extra $150? Is the Tropicana a dump?

Tropicana was remodeled within the last couple of years but I haven't seen one of the rooms so I'm not sure how much better they are than they used to be. The Trop used to be a dump.

We typically stay at Monte Carlo and it's next door to the arena. It should be less expensive than NY/NY - $580 for 2 nights is crazy.

I've stayed at the Trop a couple of times since the remodel and really enjoy it. It has a nice crisp feel to it - the rooms are comfortable and the location is great on that end of the strip. I actually enjoy gambling there as well - it doesn't feel so huge like some of the other strip casinos. And the price is usually right...

CVS by ballys

The CVS by the Mall (Wynn) had tons, so I assume that one should but I don't know for sure

That's a huge price for NY NY - not worth it IMO. I've never stayed at Tropicana, but it can't be $150 worse than NY NY.

Just booked our first trip today. Round trip flight was $340 for me and the wife, got an offer from the Wynn for $139/night and got upgraded to the encore suite for an extra $60 total. About $1k for flight and hotel for 4 nights, doesn't seem too bad.

Got comped for october 9 th and 10th at monte carlo plus a 50 dollar dining credit. Still cant find good rates for the 7th and 8th. Not sure what is going on then.
