Me and gf going to be in Vegas and going to this show on 10/21! 8pm show though. 

I originally got row E tickets and then actually had them changed to be farther back per thoughts in this thread.  Now have tickets in row J.

Small space with some overhead stuff so better viewing angles farther back. Also risk getting soaked with water splashing upfront from some bathtub performance

I sat in the 2nd to last row almost behind a pole (luckily he wasn't that big a fellow) and laughed my ### off and was amazed.  No worries no matter where you sit.

My sister and her husband want to take a long weekend trip Thurs-Sun out to Vegas in the coming months (their first time going) and I haven't been out there for about 5 years, so figured I'd ask the collective experts of the FFA for advice. Any tips on getting good deals on rooms on the strip (they'd like to stay for under $150 a night)? Any shows they must see (sounds like Absinthe is really good)? Any other general advice?

Man Offdee, may have to grab a drink as you guys leave and we enter.  I'm also interested to see where your girlfriend ranks on the scale! Seriously - PM me.  We just booked the 10pm show.  Lots of people on TripAdvisor suggested the tables all the way in the back, so I got Table 17 near the main entrance.  Should be an epic weekend.  Booking dinners now. Absinthe Friday night, sportsbook Saturday at Mandalay Bay, Stones Saturday night, morning games then fly out Sunday afternoon.

China Poblano in Cosmo is legit delicious. It's a chinese/mexican place. Excellent dim sum, and the 21-ingredient fried rice is great too

Really depends on when they want to go. I just pulled up a random weekend in December and found rates of $132 (paris), $98 (TI), $127 (PH), $159 (Mirage)...

Love this place. Last time there we did a tasting menu with drink pairing that was quite reasonable ($55 for traditional chef's experience or $75 for the more ambitious menu / add $32 for four cocktail pairing).

My wife and I are not in the best of shape and handled the short Red Rock trails just fine.

We did the Turtlehead Peak hike last week. Its about 2000 ft up in elevation (5 miles round trip), its 1.5-2 hrs up, and shorter coming down. Best view from up top of the city. Its not an easy hike if you don't do much hiking. It can be a confusing hike since the path kinda disappears so research first (stay left of the gully). There is another hike that is much more popular at the same spot, i think its only 2 miles rt, and not much elevation.

Red Rock is about a 40 min drive from the strip. There is a 13 mile loop you drive after paying the $7 admission. The 2 hikes above are at the 3rd parking lot (Sandstone Quarry i think is the name).

I have done this hike a dozen times and have never gone the same way twice. I always get confused. I dont think this is an easy hike even if you do a lot of hiking. 2000 feet up in 2 miles is a tough grade.

 
Taking our first trip to Vegas, leaving next Sunday. We're staying at the Encore and play to gamble there, Aria, Cosmo and the Venetian. Going to see Love and Elton John. 

Plan on eating at Eggslut, wynn buffet, nine fine, 550, Javiers and grand lux. 

Going to do various stuff like Belagio fountains, shopping, etc. 

Anything I'm missing?

Yardbird - at the Venetian.

Be sure to go walk the strip around 11 pm or so on the weekend. From the Venetian, turn left and walk. Go down a ways, cross the street and go see the Bellagio fountains. You'll see lots of characters out there. Good times.

FBG worlds will be colliding tomorrow night...Judge Smails and offdee are text confirmed to meet for a drink!  Gf will be wearing something good GB ;)    Looking forward to it!

Glad you had a great time GB!  Jen and I were up another 8 hrs after we left you guys. Complete blur of good times. 

 
Wife and I just got back yesterday. Stayed at the Encore. It was amazing. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was great and my wife had a wonderful time at the spa. I mostly play table games and their limits and odds suck for my bankroll so we didn't play much there. The drink service was quick and they had no qualms about service us both doubles even if my wife wasn't playing. Cocktail waitress uniforms were nice.

We enjoyed the Venetian/Palazzo. Better odds on craps at lower limits. I did most of my gambling here because the table minimums stayed more reasonable for what I was willing to lose. They also had very friendly dealers and served us both doubles that were much stronger than at the Encore.

We gambled a bit at the cosmo, but several of their dealers pissed me off and their table minimums were higher than Encore or Venetian on the same night (Tuesday). Wife really enjoyed their cosmo though.

Mirage was gross, cocktail waitresses were like 60 years old and they didn't even ask us if we wanted a drink in the first 20 minutes at roulette so we left.

As far as food, secret pizza was very good. Nine fine Irishmen was alright. The Wynn buffet was great for brunch but average at dinner (we don't eat much meat or seafood so ymmv). 

The love show was great but I wasn't impressed with some of the songs they chose. I like the older Beatles stuff mostly, and they only did a couple of those.

Elton John put on a hell of a show, lasted about two hours and went through most of his best songs. Would see again if the set list changes from time to time.

Overall we had a blast and I'm already planning the next trip in a few months lol.

Well two times they had people playing small limits with a couple of their friends sitting at the table while we were waiting to play. Asked if I could sit to play and the friends responded that they were watching and might play again. Dealer didn't tell them to play or get up.

Another time I wanted to play roulette at a $25 minimum table and bet $1 chips because of how I bet completes on 17/20 and the dealer said he would only do $5 chips even though my total bet would be like $35-40.

One pit boss was very nice and allowed my wife to play $15 at an ultimate Texas holdem table they were just opening at $25 so she could learn how to play. The craps table I played at did have the best crew I've ever encountered though, lots of fun.

So good and bad experiences at cosmo, I just doesn't have a single bad experience at the Encore or Venetian. 

 
Gotcha. Ive never seen any casino let people sit and watch when others wanted to play. 

Sounds like the roulette guy was just lazy.

Yeah that's what I figured. Probably wouldn't have bothered me as much of the experience at the other two weren't so great.

Really appreciate the tips from everyone in here, definitely helped me plan the trip and win lots of brownie points with the wife.

 
Going to Vegas in a month for the first time in 6 years.... the mirage comments have me worried  because that's where I stayed a bunch of years ago and we had a blast

 
A series of fortunate events has led me to going back the first week of December for work. 3rd time this year.  :pickle:

First time I'll be going with a group (5 total)

 
Just got back... a few quick notes.

  • Halloween weekend is awesome.  Will definitely go back next year.
  • I think someone up thread recommended staying at the Flamingo.  This was my first time there.  Location is awesome and the rooms are good, but the bed kinda sucked.  If you get drunk enough I guess the bed doesn't matter.
  • Thank you to whoever recommended hanging out at O'shea's casino.  Very easy walk from the Flamingo and honestly had the best vibe that I can remember in Vegas in a long time.  Great live music, gambling, dealers, drinks, hot chicks, and everyone partying.  Not sure if it is like that every weekend, but for Halloween weekend it was unreal.  I could have stayed in there all weekend.
ETA:

Also, I would use Uber everywhere in Vegas from now on.  At most 50% the cost of a cab sometimes less.

Has anyone seen Celine Dion in concert at Caesar's? Good show, worth the price?

Oh - and when did Vegas start only paying 6/5 for blackjack? Sat at an open seat at Mandalay Bay. Got a blackjack. Payoff looked light. Dealer pointed to 6/5 sign on felt. I asked for a pit boss. Gave me some lame rationale that their costs are going up, drinks etc so only 3/2 on $25 and up tables. Told him they are robbing players who don't know better, and asked him if he's ever gotten a buzz on their watered down drinks. He gave me a shrug. I moved to a higher limit table. Such BS

Celine has an amazing show. My wife likes her, me not so much, but the show was unbelievably great.

Yeah a lot of them are 3/2 on the $25 or even $50 and up tables. 

I thought last time I was there (like 2 years ago) Treasure Island was still paying 3/2 on $10 tables

This dynamic started on the strip years ago.   As a Vegas veteran--let me give this sound advice to anybody that is going to Vegas. If gambling is one of the real primary reasons that you are going to Vegas--do yourself a favor and do not gamble on the strip.  Many years ago--the major strip hotels relied on gambling as being the heavy majority of their incomes.  Because of this--they would offer better odds, better payouts, etc--to get people to return.  They also had cheap food and cheap rooms to get people in their casinos.  However--the strip is now a completely different animal. While gambling is still a revenue generator for them--they also now have day parties at the pools, night clubs with insanely high cover charges and bottle service, far more pricey room rates, expensive shows, and expensive dining options.    

If you are going to Vegas to party, get drunk, go to shows--for a weekend or 3 days--then yeah--stay on the strip--but my advice is to not take gambling very seriously.  Just go with a few hundred dollars that you are absolutely willing to lose--because the odds on the strip are basically the worst in Vegas.  However--if you are going to Vegas to mainly gamble--but to sprinkle in some night life and maybe a nice show or two--I'd recommend either renting a car--or taking Uber to one of the locals casinos during the day.   Places like the El Cortez on Fremont Street still have $5 dollar single deck blackjack tables that pay 1.5-1 on blackjacks.   Places like the Station Casino's or Sam's Town (Boyd casinos) are great to gamble at.   If you get players cards there--you will be shocked at how quickly you will get dining/hotel  deals/comps--so that's another positive.  Make no mistake--your gambling dollar with go farther in these places because of lower limits and better odds regardless of if you win or lose.   I love playing blackjack--but I find that risking $25 per hand at 6-5 blackjack odds makes a fun game a bit too stressful for me to enjoy.  You take me to a locals place--and at $5 per hand--and by giving the cocktail waitress a $5 tip the first time I order a drink--I find that for a couple hundred dollars--I can play for hours on end--with a cocktail waitress that comes around every 5-10 minutes asking what my next drink order will be.   

Lastly--I know that these locals places sometimes have a reputation for not being the nicest or classiest. I can tell you that there are nice options.   Santa Fe station, Sunset Station, Red Rock Hotel, Alliante are all very nice--but they do require a 20-30 minute drive from the strip.  

 
Heading there in a week.  Planning on hitting the High Roller Thursday.  Friday maybe doing one of the dinner + shows.  Thinking Absinthe.  Can't wait, so pumped.  

 
Anyone have a good suggestion for somewhere to watch the NFL afternoon games (specifically Saints at 1pm Vegas time) - where we can find a seat closer to afternoon kickoff vs. having to show up before the early games start?

Seen Westgate as a suggestion.. can we show up around noon or so and get a seat for the late games? Or will people clear out after the morning games and we can slide in? If there's an off-strip place that has nice TVs where we can definitely get seats, I'm all about Uber..
