Yup. Awesome topics but the reporters are the suck. I did get a chuckle at that little dude try his hand at Senegalese wrestling. Can't wait for the North Korea episode with Rodman. That will be their crown jewel since they're the ones who organized and facilitated the trip.
Everything I have read about that upcoming episode basicaly says Kim Jong Bong used them just to meet some NBA players.

What reporting are you guys comparing or holding it to that this doesn't work for you?
I just don't like the reporters. I think they could have more interesting folks handle that job instead of some in-house hipster.

Pretty sure both are using the basketball players to get what they want

To each Their own but the guys who created vice magazine were basically at ground zero of the launch of "hipsterism". It was also borne of a drug culture fascination and with all that said, I think Shane smith seems like a remarkably normal dude. These aren't tv hosts, they're journalists in a very real and daring way and not this gimmick schtick of storm chasing. I don't know, I guess for me, to get bogged down in the appearance or personally of probably the most neutral reporters working in mainstream television today seems to be possibly missing the point.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Vice from their humble Montreal beginnings to breaking out in NYC. My point is that TV is different from print. Some people are made for TV, others print. These guys don't make for great TV. Fortunately, the stories are strong enough, I'd just rather have more interesting folks follow the story.

I think the 110-pound guy is pretty good. He captures the piss down your leg league level of fear that some of these exploits need. When they rolled his little ### out to that pontoon boat while smuggling the North Koreans, he was legitimately terrified.

The episode where the guy gets that Al Qaeda leader in the room to chat about suicide bombers could have been so good. Then he ####s his pants and couldn't ask a decent question of the guy. You know it's bad when the militant is laughing at how stupid your questions are.I love the show though.

I didn't get that feeling at all. It's like some of you aren't watching the same show.

yeah me neither, I actually really liked that episode and the fact they got to interview those brainwashed kids right after a failed suicide blast. That was stuff you never see on TV.

Chicago
I thought that story lacked substance. I wasn't convinced how it was different there than any other urban area in the country and the level of violence was only touched on. I would have liked them to spend more time talking to the guy with 20 names tattooed on his back and his son's picture. Would have made it much more compelling.

On the other hand, the Nigeria story was great. I had not idea that type of thing went on or that Nigeria had that much oil. A great piece that highlighted the 1st world's willful ignorance of conditions in places like that, corporate greed, government corruption in the 3rd world and that, when you come right down to it, people will do what they need to to do survive and get ahead, and that things like the environment exist at a different level of consciousness that those fully occupied with putting food in their mouths' can never attain (and should not be expected to)

Still think the reporting is below average. Can't come around on the emo kid.
I hear you, and that was my first reaction.

He does do a good job getting the stories. Yes, editorializes a bit more than some might like (myself at first). But, I've gotten used to it and don't mind it/can deal with it. He's doing solid work, hope he keeps it up!

We call this Chiraq!

I think the really interesting part of the story was how the three local hospitals to Englewood now refuse to treat gun shot victims. Honestly, I didn't know a hospital could do this. Maybe I'm just not up on this. I personally have to do some more research on this, as I'm not sure how prevalent this is in other major cities or if it is isolated, which would make it more scary.

Yeah, that was awesome.

LOL @ the North Korean dude just staring at the Google homepage. I'm over here screaming "TYPE MIDGET PORN!!!"

Oh come on. If you want to say if you were the Emo kid and you would have asked X Y and Z that's fine. But as far as the stories being told and the lengths that they are going to tell them nobody at any network TV News outlet is coming close.

Dennis Rodman trying to speak with no content to deliver was hilarious.

Great episode, would have watched two hours of this

Dude was in shock...he's been waiting weeks for his number to come up and he'd get to use the Internet and when it's his turn...there HAS to be a film crew right over his shoulder. He was fighting an internal battle...he wanted to search so many things but knew that he'd get executed if that camera crew caught him looking at anything Kim Junk Ugh disapproved of...

Dude staring at the google homepage was the creepiest part of the show IMO.
Just caught this on my DVR. Absolutely awesome season send-off.

They did a really good job covering this to make you feel like you are there with them. Not seeing cars anywhere during a driving scene made me feel uncomfortable. Really creepy was watching the people and how they behaved any time in front of a camera. You could tell they were terrified and uneasy. The 10,000+ sitting, standing, and cheering "Live 10,000 years!" in unison was jaw dropping. Everything seemed to be a facade, as they pointed out during the show.

Excellent coverage and delivery of the story, can't wait for more content.

I was thinking that as well....or he was instructed just to stare at the screen or suffer a five year sentence at the local gulag.

love VICE. been getting the magazine mailed to me for a few years... their reporting is raw - no bs or spin.

it's great to see them get some backing by hbo.
I like catching this show from time to time.

I disagree that there is "no spin", its there. The recent piece on Greenland's glaciers was full of it.

That said, they often cover what no one else does, and I tend to agree with their spin/bias like 90% of the time anyways... but don't fool yourself, it is there.

I'm not saying glaciers don't melt. I'm saying when they got into Antartica melting and what a total melt would do... they were presenting only certain facts, not the whole story. Glaciers also refreeze you know. In parts of the world, there is net glacier growth annually.

I'm kinda mild of the road on global warming. I think man clearly has an impact on his environment. But, I'm not sure it's all carbon caused. I'm not even sure that it wouldn't be a net benefit to have a slightly warmer planet. This piece in particular only presented 1 side of a story that is very contraversial and illustrates that the show is NOT without spin. Thats all I'm saying.

Woah!!!

Go to the most recent episode of VICE, the one about rape in India. Go to the ten-minute mark. Do it now.

Don't ask why. Just do it.

I'm still watching, but the heat has come off the fastball a little bit.

The India Rape segment was the best of the season so far, disturbing. I'm sure the pink patrol is going to start to lynch people soon.
