why did philly do this? they need a new guy in charge in the risk department. seems as thogu two good games against 2 lousy teams shouldnt merit this type of pay.

I would think they would want Vick around all year just in case Kolb lands with a big thud. They may then decide to extend Vick. If Kolb has a really good year then Vick might walk away next season.

No way does Vick get traded in the middle of this season. He will be an Eagle all of 2010. The Eagles will let the offers come in during the off-season and will likely wait until the last possible moment to trade him for the best offer they can get.....pretty much right around the middle of April 2011.

Because they have watched him for 3 years in practice and were confident in what they saw. Also, his contract was up at the end of this season, so if they did not extended him, he probably would have looked to sign with the highest bidder next year. Finally, if the 2 good games you are referring to are the two games he started last year, one of those games was against the Saints. If I recall they won the Super Bowl last year.If Kolb plays well this year, they have already taken care of him for next year, and will look to lock him up long-term. If Kolb fails miserably they only have one year left on his deal that they are obligated to pay. They may end up looking bad if Kolb fails because they did a poor job of evaluating him, but from a contract stand point, I think they handled it pretty good. Consider the $12 million that the Eagles have to pay Kolb to see if he is their franchise QB for the next decade versus what the Lions and Rams had to pay Stafford and Bradford to do the same thing.

exactly. Also, it would probably be a problem at some point when your backup QB was going to be making 5X as much as your starter. When they named him the starter, they almost had to adjust his salary.

Kolb is going to be given as much rope as possible to see if he is the Eagle's next franchise QB. I think when he is healthy, he is going to have to play awful for at least 3 or 4 games, before he gets pulled as a starter. From a fantasy perspective, I think you want to stay away from Kolb and Vick until you know for sure that one or the other is the established (and producing) starter.

Been through this already, read all the posts or you look foolish. I stated Vick stays in Philly for 2010, and leaves for a starting gig in FA 2011. I'm guessing the Raiders.
