Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Anyone have any suggestions for combating motion sickness in some of these FPS-style games? I had absolutely no problem with the entire Mass Effect series, but Deus Ex HR is killing me. I can only go about a half-hour before I break out in a sweat. Google suggests ginger tablets and/or some kind of wristband. Figured I'd see if a savvy FBG has another remedy.
I am not sure. I have never had the problem but know people that have. I wonder if maybe you could change settings to help? Maybe decrease mouse sensitivity or decrease resolution?
Yeah I've toyed with several settings. Some help a little, particularly mouse sensitivity so the camera isn't swaying 120 degrees so quickly. It sounds like the ultimate culprit is 'head bob', where the camera bobs as you walk. I'm not sure why game developers feel that feature is necessary.
How big of a screen are you playing on? I have a 52" very nice HDTV and a 22" monitor that I have my girlfriend's and my xbox's hooked up to side by side and I can't play on the big screen because I get sick. If I want use the big screen I have sit another 5-8 feet back but when I game I get really close and focus in.
22" monitor. I'll admit to leaning forward with my face less than 3 feet (close to 2) from it somewhat often. Could be a problem for sure.

I sit around 4 ft' away from the smaller monitor while leaning forward. Along the lines of what Slax was mentioning is that if the FPS on the monitor is low it may also cause issues. I had this with one of my older monitors I tried and use before I switch to a better one.

I have a question for you guys. Do you know of a easy to use cable internet modem router combo that works with multiple xbox 360's and provides a open NAT without major hassle?

Anyone have this "problem"? I was big into Black Ops (at least 2 hours a day). But then because I didn't have access I didn't play for a week and just never went back. Rinse and repeat for Mass Effect and now Diablo 3. I'll be way into a game but if I get any kind of break (4+ days) I never go back.WTF?
I was playing red dead redemption and put it down to play Black Ops. Now all I play is Black Ops Zombies. I'm pretty addicted to it.
Love me some Black Ops Zombie. My son and I can get pretty far.

You have an Xbox live account? I play it mostly with my son. We should get a game going.

It's just frustrating because I had no problem logging hours at a time on Mass Effect 3, even on the hectic multiplayer. I will try creating some distance though and see what happens.

Yes, but haven't played in forever. But love zombies cuz you can just jump back in. 4 players is fun but we found we are best with two players on one screen. I think SavvyToaster is my handle.

I've done the same thing with nearly every game I own.

:goodposting: to you and the previous other posters. HUGE problem for me. Some of it just that I have an addictive personality. If I like I'm either 100% in or 100% out, no in-between, so I tend to really engulf myself into things and that could explain the burnout. On the other hand, I have also played a gazillion games. When I say that, I'm not kidding, I have played a staggering amount of titles. 2 minutes into the game I can tell if I like a game or if it's going to annoy me. Games I have fell completely head over heel in love with but have yet to finish.....Bioshock 2Mass Effect 2Fallout 3Fallout 3: New VegasSkyrimRed Dead RedemptionDark SoulsWitcher 2And that's just off the top of my head.

I didn't get into Mass Effect until ME3 came out. I cruised through ME1 and ME2 and enjoyed them. Started ME3 and liked it just fine but then had a break (I think Disneyland or something). Came back and never got back into it.

I think RPG's are especially prone to this. I could say the same about many, including Dragon Age: Origins. I can remember starting and leaving KOTOR and ME1 and ME2 for periods of time, as well.

I took a huge break during ME1. Just watched a youtube walkthrough up to the point where I left off and it all came back to me.

Has anyone here played Rise of a Solar Empire? Saw an article on an expansion for it and the game sounded intriguing. I haven't bought a PC game in years. With this being a 2008 release, I am thinking it might run on my laptop. But wondering if it is worth trying to track down? I loved MOO by the way.

I tried. Just couldn't get into it. Seemed really slow and cumbersome.

I'm pretty good at just barely getting stuff to work with complicated patches and no cd cracks but opening router ports might as well be in Chinese.

I agree. RPG's are notorious for this for me. When it comes to a great action/adventure game (like Assassin's Creed or Batman Arkham City) or FPS (like Half-Life or Bioshock), then I'll play through the whole thing or for a while in multiplayer before I move onto something else. But nearly every RPG I've played has taken pieces for me to finish. I almost played New Vegas straight through, but stopped a bit before the end and came back to it, and I still haven't completed all the DLC. However, I think I may have completed all of Mass Effect 2 in one straight playthrough (not one sitting, just without taking a break). Mass Effect 2 may have been the exception, but it's more shooter than RPG, so it kind of makes sense.

A GB and I bought Civ IV. We played 1 game for 12 straight hours. We finished this morning at 4AM. :coffee:
I went out and bought it as well. this game is ridiculously time absorbing (in a good way). went to bed at 3 am on a work nite...FML
I did the same thing with Civ V recently. Looked at the clock and it was pushing 3:30am. Didn't even realize it was that late. And even when you do look at the clock, there is always just "one more turn".Not sure what it is, cause you would think turn based games would be easier to turn off.

They aren't.

The game Amnesia has the same problem. It not only gives me a headache but makes me nauseous.
Nauseous here too. I first discovered this with GoldenEye on N64. For years I assumed 3D gaming just wasn't for me but then I tried Mass Effect and thought the disability was cured. Apparently not.
Mass effect is 3rd person too so maybe try some TPS instead of FPS. Hitman is a good TPS option or Gears of War. Lots of games out there that incorporate Third person shooting.

Curious what smaller games (say less than $20, cheaper the better) you have found and really liked with Steam. Those that I have enjoyed and are worth both the $ and time are:

Magicka

Torchlight

Orcs Must Die

Trine/Trine 2

Gratuitous Space Battles

I have a ton more in my library as yet uninstalled and am curious what other gems there are.

Given that the Summer Sale just ended, it would be a good time to check this out: Steam Calculator

My account? $1240.09 (92 games) :bag:

Some RPG's do this to me.I played Oblivion and Skyrim straight through, along with the fallout / mass effect / dragon age games. But others - like Reckoning, Dragon's Dogma, and The Witcher II - will hold my interest for awhile, but then just kind of peter out. I guess there needs to be a compelling story as to "why", which these games somewhat lacked. I love RPG's w/ a good story, and if they can give you some freedom for side quests, that's even better. But if I'm thinking halfway through "wait a minute... WHY am I doing all of this again?", that's the beginning of the end.

I grabbed a copy of the Borderlands GOTY on the Xbox, even though I already played it a few years ago. At the time I played it with 3 friends and 1 thing I didn't like about the game was that the people you can invite into your game could complete your games missions without your participation. I fell behind my friends and they already knew how to complete quite a few missions and just did them for me.

Game was fun enough that I'd like to play thru it again during the summer before Borderlands 2 comes out. I'll play as a different class this time too, so if anyone wants to do some co-op...

I played it briefly. Didn't stick. Nothing terribly innovative/provocative.

So that makes 0 for 2 amongst the FBG crowd. Surprised based on what I was reading in the review. It made it sound as if I had missed the greatest RTS 4X game ever in the existence of computer gaming. They did mention it had a rabid following. They didn't say it was a large following. Maybe it is sort of like Demon's Souls. Those that love the game love it alot. But it's uniqueness makes that following undersized.

I always see Bastion on sales and wonder - how would you describe it?
Found 199 Games with a value of

$2501.52 USD

I'm a sucker for publisher collections during the major steam sales.

I'm maybe halfway through Limbo and have enjoyed it. It will probably end up pretty short, but it was cheap.

It's an action-RPG and plays similar to Torchlight. (edit: Come to think of it, it doesn't really play that similar to Torchlight. I guess I'd have to say it plays more like Zelda. Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light is another similar game.) Style is unique and the story is good.

It's short. Good game, but short. I docked it points in the video game draft because of that.

Give it time, apparently Steam servers are offline. I just tried checking the account of the guy that has the highest total (techanalyst comes in over $22k) and he showed at $0 just now.

I usually take a 10-15 minute breaks outside if migraines or heachades start to accur.

I've also cut back on sitting too close in front of my TV too.

Anyone play the X3 series? It is on a pretty huge sale right now. I think I find myself loving the idea of a 4X game, but just haven't found one that has executed it and made it accessible yet. Tried briefly with Sins of a Solar Empire, Homeworld, etc.

Ooooh, I loved Homeworld. Forgot about that game.

I tried the first one. Brutally frustrating flight made me quit within minutes. Haven't tried any other ones.

Hmm, Sword of the Stars seems to have OK ratings, and is on sale, might take a look. Looks like gentans also has it.

just X. Sword of the Stars is on the list to check out more. It seemed interesting for the very short time I played it.
