Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

Anyone ever play Mobius? That was a pretty fun computer game back in the day (late 80s)
Think I played that one. That was the one about the monk, yes? Think Origin made it, if it's the one I'm remembering.
Yea, there were temples and ninjas and shurkins and you would fight... but you'd walk around (just a big head) and fight tigers and chop trees and stuff too. It was kind of like a RPG mixed with a fighter.

Far Cry 3 got harder on me. I thought combat was ridiculously easy. Taking out camps, doing the missions where you have to knife someone. Was never even being challenged. Then I advanced the main story just a bit. Now all the camps have a lot more dudes, guys I have to knife have a lot more bodyguards with heavy armor. I just did a camp mission where I immediately released a tiger or whatever. Those things used to take out just about the entire camp by themselves. This time, it didn't kill a single dude and was dead in about 5 seconds. The challenge level definitely picked up once I went to the Doctor's house and talked to the girl. But I had to do it. I had seven skill points piled up and couldn't use them because I needed to complete more missions before I could unlock anything.

Found a cheap copy of Demon's Souls at GameStop today, so I'll probably queue that up after I finish Far Cray 3. Though the Last Light story fascinates me too.

And now for your weekend update.

I decided to hit The Pitt. Very short DLC. Really pretty easy at this point for me. I wasn't really challenged at any time. Two good things about it. The Infiltrator and the ammo press. Finally can have all the .44 ammo I want. But otherwise kind of meh and way short. For completion I need to go back but not in a big hurry.

So last DLC is Point Lookout. Much better. Heck the Chinese Spy sidequest was better than the Pitt, IMO, by itself. Lot more challenge. A little glitchy here and there but nothing too bad. I have finished the main story line but there is still a ton to do. I am looking forward to finishing up the sidequests. I need to go back to Megaton to dump some stuff.

One thing Point Lookout has done that none of the other DLC did was point out that I had gotten lazy due to having followers. I mean what do I have to worry about walking into when I have a super mutant with a inexhaustible gatling laser? Maybe lazy isn't the right word but not as sharp. Not as much tactical planning before going into a situation. Lookout has made me slow down and think about it again before plunging ahead. Which is good.

So not going to get to play much this week as I will be out of town until late Wednesday at a minimum.

Great Flash Sale for PS3. I'm not sure if it's still on today or not, but they had all sorts of games on sale for $5. BioShock 1 & 2, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Darksiders, etc.

I grabbed Red Dead Redemption and am thinking about the two Bioshocks as well.

Just started playing infamous this weekend. Super fun. Gorgeous game. Stylistically it reminds me of Red Dead Redemption, which is great.

Yeah, I think the most critical skill in the game is the ability to knife the heavy's. I really had a hard time in those "middle" outposts where you first started to get heavy's. There was almost no way to quietly take them out and get the accomplishments. Towards the end of the game I with that skill it started to get a little more possible to get the accomplishments.

I think the other big thing for me was to wait less and make bigger moves. I tend to play games very methodically, so I'd kill one, then try to get out to safety, replan, then go back in and kill another. I started to get better when I kinda left that path behind and would just go in and take care of most of a base in one set of actions.

This weekend I got pretty well into AC:4, and so far am loving the game. The only comment I have on it is that I'm spending so much time at sea just pillaging, it doesn't seem very assassin's creed to me. I almost wonder if they should have taken this at sea ip and created a new solely pirate focused series. I've been dying for a good pirate RPG or action game and I think this is the best I've played. I just don't think this game needs the assassin vs Templar battle and could have been written as a pirate storyline and been a pretty awesome new 3+ game series for them.

Nc... Say all that in English now. Should I be staying in one area for a long time? I've been doing like one or two things and getting a side quest and moving on. I have a ton of quests going on right now.

It's fun but it's pretty horrible from a sea battle point of view. The wind hardly plays into the strategy of the battle at all and the ability to board ships and repair your own mid battle is weak sauce.

Picked up Red Dead Redemption for $10 at Best Buy. Not a fan of wide open games like FO, more of an FPS fan, but its interesting so far (2 hrs in). Looking forward to not dying each gun fight.

p.s. ignore johnjohn--or at least stop quoting him. My FBG experience has much better since putting him on ignore.

RDR is a solid game. I would call it a GTA type of machine and universe. The missions and story line are pretty solid. Lots of side stuff to do that isn't too awful. Picking flowers gets annoying. Playing cards and dice is fun. Haven't replayed in awhile but only because of schedule and not anything bad related to the game.

Agree with all this. Hunting is a lot of fun, just wish there was a way to skip the animation on the skinning of the animal. I also thought there was going to be a lot more moral choices affecting your character based on what I read about the game beforehand. Didn't find this to be the case. Liked the game a lot. I still think of the game if I'm at the gardening store - those cheesy lines when he was picking flowers stay with you (well, me)

Anyone ever play any of the co-op stuff in RDR? Is it any good?

Played Borderlands 2 with some friends last summer and had a lot of fun. We're looking for another game to play some co-op on for the PS3 this summer. The $5 price point right now is pretty tempting for RDR. (I actually already bought it for the single player at least. Just trying to figure out if it's worth trying to sell them on the co-op or not).

:goodposting:

The heavy's were what was giving me trouble. But I now am fully loaded with special weapons, and I find just going in and taking them out before they can even think about hitting the alarm is very effective. Love the SMG that comes with scope, silencer, etc. I was tearing it up. That and the explosive shotgun. Taking out two or three enemies with one blast is pretty darn effective!

Last of us is picking up now. Started the Ambush portion in Pittsburgh. I like how each area makes you less comfortable with the game. Like you were used to clickers and walkers? Well now heres some ####### humans who are a bit smarter.

Good voice acting too which is NaughtyDogs specialty.

My only complaint is the inventory system. I know it shouldnt be easy to switch weapons but the holding x gets tedious any time you run out of ammo. And I can never seem to cycle through melee weapons properly.

Pittsburgh. One of the most gut wrenching parts of the game. Great story arc here.

Am I the only one here that thought the Turbografx 16 was going to kick Nintendo's ###? :kicksrock:
I remember being at Electronics Boutique (remember them?) and having the Turbo Grafx 16 and the Sega Genesis in front of me. I chose the TG16

I thought Bonk was the next Mario.

When I saw Madden, Lakers vs Celtics, EA NHL Hockey and Hardball 3 were going to be on the Sega Genesis.....sold.

If it didn't cost double the NES and had their extensive library, it may have had a shot.

RDR is pretty fun so far. Lot of horse riding though and the mechanics for that aren't that great. Other minor complaint is that your character's walking speed is...so...incredibly...s.l.o.w.

I bought this on sale from XBL a couple months ago and have been playing it here and there. My wife looked at me last night and said' "You seem to spend more time riding your horse to the next place than doing anything else in this game." I can't say I disagree. But I am liking it more than any other Rockstar game I've ever played.

This thread has turned awesome. My first computer was a Vic 20. Couldn't play games on it but could run a primitive flavor of basic. Spent countless hours writing my own version of adventure on it. Saving it to a cassette tape - that I couldn't ever seem to manage to load. Good times.
my neighbors had a vic-20. father was a math professor and so was really excited to program. spent hours coding one of those pictures of a balloon going across the screen. had to program every single pixel...must have been 20 pages of code. his daughter ran it for me and i was amazed. she was messing around with the computer and hit a button that would be the equivalent of a reset today. her father freaked, and made her hold it until he could figure out some way to save his work. she was crying because he was mad, and because she was pressing the button so hard.

in the end, she just couldn't hold it long enough. i couldn't remember seeing an adult lose their #### like that before. sort of cool, but also tragic.

MLB: The Show comes out today for the PS4. Anyone getting it? I've never played any previous versions, but I pre-ordered a copy last week...

Riding your horse and just taking the atmosphere was the best part of RDR. Especially when you first ride into Mexico and that song plays.

I went to the Grand Canyon for the first time this year, and I thought "Wow, the RDR landscape is more realistic than I thought" :lmao:

Great game

That, and I'm pretty sure your ship can outrun everything in the game I've found by a longshot, how easy it is to reduce your "wanted" level, all stuff that could use some tweaking to make it a better pirate game. All that being said, it is a lot of fun, and I think it could have been the basis for a great pirate series.

I'm really excited to get into Paris on the next AC game, but I'm going to be wishing there was something else out there with this ship aspect.
