Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Last of us update.

Made it to that scene. I could see what was coming. Maybe I'm jaded but it wasnt as bad as I thought. Still depressing though.

Starting playing Hearthstone on my Ipad (free Blizzard game based on Warcraft and played out simply in a nice card game setting).

I typically don't like ipad games, nor did I think the game would have any depth but then the other day I saw Krip playing online I figured if he liked it, I should give it a shot.

I killed 3 hours with out blinking tonight and I am still in basic practice mode. Quite a nice little game they put together.

In further Fallout news I have finished Point Lookout. Found every location and I think every side mission. Great DLC. The enemies are pretty tough. Reavers are at least as tough as Deathclaws IMO. Really took the advantage out of the armor. So now I am really just looking for locations in the Wasteland. Got to wipe out a nest of those Talon losers at a Fort while wandering. At this point it's just me and DM. I haven't gone and picked up my super mutant buddy yet. Don't really need him for anything but the mule aspect. So maybe I will and maybe I won't.

So as I wind down FO3 the question becomes on to New Vegas? Looks pretty cool.

Every bit as good as FO3, but different enough to stand out on its own.

I actually liked it better than FO3, I liked the factions aspect.

What DLCs would you guys recommend? Are any of those packs good? Like the courier pack and all that?
I have them all, but I'm an admitted Fallout junkie. Gun Runner's Arsenal is great for weapons and weapon mods.
They get good reviews in general. I may pick up the Courier and Gun Runner stashes. I doesn't look like any of them give you extra levels to advance or anything. Speaking of level is this one cut off at level 30 or something?

Yeah, the circle was crazy. There were a crap ton of raiders out there as I got out of the subway. And fricken land mines. Wasn't expecting that. I finally did an Ender's Game after dying a few times and just reloaded and ran at them with frag grenades flying. Got past them and then went to the next subway system dupont something or other and the door opens to two mutants standing right there. WTF? I have few limited ammo left now and no stim packs.

I've gotten better at the whole not taking everything thing when you find stuff. I think I have to have more patience when I do find things and fast travel back to megaton to sell them. USing the locker in the sheriff's kids house right now even though its red and then another locker at the radion tower building. I've also left some stuff on some dead mutants where I can go back and grab it if I have to. Still I'd like one single place to grab and store all my stuff.

You have to get your explosive skill to 30. Then you can take care of the bomb and the kid will give you a key to your Megaton house. It will also help with disarming those mines. You can sell them for good bucks. Take it from a pack rat you can store a buttload of stuff in your house. I had over 150 nuka colas to put in my Nuka cola machine when I bought it. And remember things marked red means you are stealing. If you put your own things in there you may be stealing them when you remove them. That hurts your karma.

Seriosuly? Crap. Ok, I think my explosive is up to 30 now so I'll go back and do that and spend the night reorganizing all my crap.

Each expansion pack you buy will raise your max level by 5, to a maximum of 50.

GRA isn't considered an expansion pack so that won't count, just Dead Money, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, and I'm forgetting the 4th one.

I started replaying last week with all the DLCs. I thought GRA is way overpowered. For a handful of caps early in the game I can get a perfect condition GRA plasma pistol that let's me kill things way out of my level. Gamebreaker IMO

True, plus it gives you all the bonus items for the early versions that went out to the different vendors, like the weathered 10mm, and such. It's good for if you've already played through and just want to have some fun.

Just started Uncharted 2 - had more fun in the opening Museum heist level than I did in the entire first game. I'm hoping I like this one more overall.

Say hi to them when you get to them. You'll know what I'm talking about when you meet them. Everyone who's played the game will remember those things with the things they throw.

New Vegas is great. If you liked FO3, I think you'll like New Vegas. It's a different game but the basic plot and mechanics are the same.

I have all the DLC for it but haven't finished one of them. They are worth it too, IMO. The Gun Runners Arsenal adds some great weaponry and achievements to the game that (being the nerd I am) adds another layer of fun to the game.

You got me back into FO3 so I'm finishing that at the moment and might fire up NV to complete that game as well.

I actually preferred New Vegas. Better story overall, and there was something really cool about traveling around at night and seeing Vegas lit up in the distance.

So am I not supposed to walk on Pennsylvania Ave? I got out of the metro onto it and my map marker seems to want me to go back. Trying to get to museum to get satellite dish for radio station. ..

I think you would still be looking for another metro entrance at that point. Downtown is confusing because of the way they run you through multiple subways to get anywhere. I guess the FO3 version of dungeon crawls.

What about the courier stash? Is that overpowered? I think it was available with a pre-order originally.

The dlc that takes place in Zions is pretty awesome, and gives you access to the .45 Tommy gun. Modded, that feels pretty darn op as well.

Playing through FO3 and like Skyrim......just getting lost in my character and the world. No rhyme or reason. I am just exploring, leveling, doing random quests, I am not even a smidgen into the main story. I still need to go to the Radio Station.

Once I drop....I don't know 150 hours into this one I will move on to New Vegas. I never bought that one.

Superb game FO3......love it. Skyrim and this are my go to RPG's no question.

Last of Us update:

Not much happeneing now. Met back up with Joels brother and now going to the college. Got real slow again all of a sudden.

Things are about to pick up. After the college portion is possibly the best video gaming I have ever experienced.

Me too and New Vegas is in that class as well.

Is it wrong of me that when the screen said I was on Pennsylvania Ave. I got psyched because I wanted to see how they handled the White House and the rest of the area? Oh, and how I was trying desperately to try to figure out what building was what? I'm hoping that the city and what's left of the main buildings are accurate in terms of location.

I didn't think of focusing on anything but the main story though. I guess I could do that. Just stop looking for the radio dish at the museum, and turn around back to the megaton area and just roam for awhile and kill everyhing I see so gain xp's. Interesting way of handling it.

Is there any downside to accepting all the side missions and quests and not finishing them in any great amount of time?

I had the side mission to kill the giant ants, Them, from almost the very beginning and I didn't actually do it until I had finished the main game and a couple of DLC. Basically you are on your own clock. If you haven't I would go back to Megaton take care of the bomb, then see Moira in Crater Supply in Megaton and do the Wasteland Survival Guide side missions. Good XP, relatively easy to do and you can pick up a lot of goodies along the way to get yourself some caps. You could put in a lot of time and never touch the main story. With these games that is really how I play them. Side missions are often the best thing in the game.

Ok. How do I get my bomb rating to 30. I thought I raised it on my last upgrade to level 4 but my stat is only like 22.
A few ways. You can level up so you can put in points, there are magazines/books you can read for points and of course there is a bobblehead that will add points. But I think the bobblehead will be hard to get and finding books is patchy. Went on quite a run last night and found about ten books but they were all in areas you wouldn't be ready for. Lots of deathclaws and such. So leveling is probably your deal. Also on a side note you really want your Intelligence at ten. It gives you more skill points to spend at each level up. You can add to any of those special abilities(Intelligence, Strength, etc.) by choosing Intense Training when you level up. You can then put a point into any special ability. However with Intelligence you only need to put in points to get to 9 points. The bobblehead to add a point to Intelligence is easy to get in Rivet City.

The books - they are worth a solid chunck of change. Is it better to sell them or use them? Or keep them I guess.

And while I'm asking - the stuff in your inventory that is misc. (not ammo, weapon, clothes or health stuff) none of that is worth anything other than selling it for caps, right? Like I sold a few motorcycle pieces - I'm not going to need motorcycle pieces in the game at any point, correct?

Most everything in miscellaneous can eventually be used to build various weapons. Including tin cans. Like nuka cola grenades for example. But really I have only built a couple of things just to do it. I haven't needed any of it. Most of it doesn't seem any more effective than what you already got. Now you will get to a point where pre-war books can get you XP for selling them. Also cameras and conductors. So they are worth hanging on to until then. The books I'm talking about are the ones like Nikola Tesla and You, Tumblers Today, Chinese Army Manuals,, etc. Those will be in a your aid area after you pick them up and add points to things like science, lock picking, sneak, etc.

Certain items can be used to make special weapons. You have to find the schematics in order to be able to build it. Motorcycle parts would be used to make the Shishkabab, a melee weapon.

Ok,

So, after reading the few pointers here I did maybe 5 minutes of internet reading on walkthroughs and hints and also saw glitches to exploit. Really didn't want to do any of that on the cheat side but found a few ideas for how to handle certain situations (I was using the pipboy targeting system way too much and really didn't realize that I could pull off manual targeting) stuff like that. But one easter egg glitch thing that sounded funny was the sick guy in the clinic in Big Town. The site said that you could kill him as long as you blow his head off and then go out the back foor of the place and back around front and keep doing it and he will keep respawning and giving you XP each time. I figured what the heck... I need to get my explosives up so why not.

Fast travel from Penn. Ave. to Big Town. As soon as the screen opens there is a mutant standing in front of me - thanks computer AI game engine. Appreciate that. He took a lot out of me before I was done with him. Annoyed me so much I wanted to shoot the guy int he clinic just to blow off steam. Walk in, get the sawed off and blow his head clear off - body fumbles around an everything. Get some negative karma and I think it said 23 XPs. Ok, so the website was right. Go out the back door come back in the front and ..... nothing..... no glitch to exploit. Most likely fixed in the version I have at this point. So much the better. I can do the stary the hard way.

So I fast travel back to the spingvale school becuase I never even went inside that place when I walked past it on main quest related missions. I have to admit that the bad guys on the other side of walls taunting you - a little more stressful than I need in a video game. The tension level is noticable in my gaming area when this is occurring. If my wife walked up behind me in one of these moment I would have to dry clean the sofa most likely. Not my cup of tea overall, but the game has been entertaining. I think I cleared out most of the main floor and top floor of bad guys. And so then I make it to the lower level and the hole in the ground with............... ants.

I only saw 2. I had no idea this type of thing existed in this game. I ****ing hate these things already. The sound they were making I thought was steam or water going through pipes to add to the stress of everything but no. Now that sound they make is etched in my brain. I kill 2 of them and start walking slowly (way way too slowly for a fake video game guy I control that I don't want to get hurt) and then the sound starts again. I leterally - as in, yes Andy the proper use of the word, stood up from the sofa and said **** this , not tonight, saved the game and turned it off.

My impression so far of the game,,,,:

Good:

Story line is fun. I'm not a zombie guy or really a horror movie horror game guy either but this seems to have a manageable mix of fear, suspense and fun mission oriented stuff in its engine ala GTA.

The bad guys are not so invincible that it makes the game boring. I am getting better at understanding the use of weapons and targeting systems and body parts. Solid gameplay there.

The soundtrack is haunting. In a good way. Again, not a horror guy at all but the music fits the game perfectly.

Open ended is pretty much a must for me in many ways these days. I don't get to play alot and so when I sit back down after a few days or weeks I can't possibly remember what the heck I was supposed to be doing so its nice not getting penalized for that.

The world itself is fairly amazing. I am still trying my hardest to visualize where I am in the game in relation to the real DC. Haven't really been able to pinpoint too much except Dupont Circle, although that was just more of knowing it was there and being able to figure out what sould be around me in real life.

Bad:

The game is too dark. I have brightness all the way up and I still have a hard time seeing things. It could be my eyes, but I hate dark video games regardless.

The background and colors are a little boring to the point of problematic at times. Again, I get that - nuclear holocaust, nothing is going to be pretty. But when all the rubble is the same exact color and its everywhere and there is almost no deliniation of road, walk, garbage, rubble, building, etc etc it gets hard on my eyes to focus. This leads to the main problem I am having with land mines at the moment because I really just cannot see them until I am being blowed up.

The ants. I hate the ants.

Overall, I really don't have any other complaints or negative opinions. There is I am sure just a ton of stuff that I haven't even begun to notice yet, but I am enjoying it for the most part. If I was 20 again and able to devot a good 8 hour session to the game I'm sure I would be immersed in it a lot more.
