Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

In a game like this Youtube is almost essential. It is too big a world to not get a little bit of help finding your way. Now I don't bother with cheats either but a good shortcut or better way to play a situation I am always down with.

The Ants are kind of tough but shooting their antennae will make them freak out and they will attack other ants that way. Oh yeah there is a fire breathing version of the ants you will run into. Just a heads up. And if you hate the Ants you aren't going to be a fan of the various scorpions out there. The albinos especially are hard to kill. But I think you got to get up a few levels before you see them.

And remember you can check your Pipboy at any time to get a reminder on what missions you have and that are active. You can also use it to switch active missions if you want.

Switch active missions..... I did not know that. How do you do that? That could significantly alter my enjoyability factor as the correct compass point would be on the screen.

Ok,

So, after reading the few pointers here I did maybe 5 minutes of internet reading on walkthroughs and hints and also saw glitches to exploit. Really didn't want to do any of that on the cheat side but found a few ideas for how to handle certain situations (I was using the pipboy targeting system way too much and really didn't realize that I could pull off manual targeting) stuff like that. But one easter egg glitch thing that sounded funny was the sick guy in the clinic in Big Town. The site said that you could kill him as long as you blow his head off and then go out the back foor of the place and back around front and keep doing it and he will keep respawning and giving you XP each time. I figured what the heck... I need to get my explosives up so why not.

Fast travel from Penn. Ave. to Big Town. As soon as the screen opens there is a mutant standing in front of me - thanks computer AI game engine. Appreciate that. He took a lot out of me before I was done with him. Annoyed me so much I wanted to shoot the guy int he clinic just to blow off steam. Walk in, get the sawed off and blow his head clear off - body fumbles around an everything. Get some negative karma and I think it said 23 XPs. Ok, so the website was right. Go out the back door come back in the front and ..... nothing..... no glitch to exploit. Most likely fixed in the version I have at this point. So much the better. I can do the stary the hard way.

So I fast travel back to the spingvale school becuase I never even went inside that place when I walked past it on main quest related missions. I have to admit that the bad guys on the other side of walls taunting you - a little more stressful than I need in a video game. The tension level is noticable in my gaming area when this is occurring. If my wife walked up behind me in one of these moment I would have to dry clean the sofa most likely. Not my cup of tea overall, but the game has been entertaining. I think I cleared out most of the main floor and top floor of bad guys. And so then I make it to the lower level and the hole in the ground with............... ants.

I only saw 2. I had no idea this type of thing existed in this game. I ****ing hate these things already. The sound they were making I thought was steam or water going through pipes to add to the stress of everything but no. Now that sound they make is etched in my brain. I kill 2 of them and start walking slowly (way way too slowly for a fake video game guy I control that I don't want to get hurt) and then the sound starts again. I leterally - as in, yes Andy the proper use of the word, stood up from the sofa and said **** this , not tonight, saved the game and turned it off.

My impression so far of the game,,,,:

Good:

Story line is fun. I'm not a zombie guy or really a horror movie horror game guy either but this seems to have a manageable mix of fear, suspense and fun mission oriented stuff in its engine ala GTA.

The bad guys are not so invincible that it makes the game boring. I am getting better at understanding the use of weapons and targeting systems and body parts. Solid gameplay there.

The soundtrack is haunting. In a good way. Again, not a horror guy at all but the music fits the game perfectly.

Open ended is pretty much a must for me in many ways these days. I don't get to play alot and so when I sit back down after a few days or weeks I can't possibly remember what the heck I was supposed to be doing so its nice not getting penalized for that.

The world itself is fairly amazing. I am still trying my hardest to visualize where I am in the game in relation to the real DC. Haven't really been able to pinpoint too much except Dupont Circle, although that was just more of knowing it was there and being able to figure out what sould be around me in real life.

Bad:

The game is too dark. I have brightness all the way up and I still have a hard time seeing things. It could be my eyes, but I hate dark video games regardless.

The background and colors are a little boring to the point of problematic at times. Again, I get that - nuclear holocaust, nothing is going to be pretty. But when all the rubble is the same exact color and its everywhere and there is almost no deliniation of road, walk, garbage, rubble, building, etc etc it gets hard on my eyes to focus. This leads to the main problem I am having with land mines at the moment because I really just cannot see them until I am being blowed up.

The ants. I hate the ants.

Overall, I really don't have any other complaints or negative opinions. There is I am sure just a ton of stuff that I haven't even begun to notice yet, but I am enjoying it for the most part. If I was 20 again and able to devot a good 8 hour session to the game I'm sure I would be immersed in it a lot more.
Don't forget there's a light on your pipboy. It won't make things super bright, but it'll illuminate the room a bit more, but also make you easier to see if you're sneaking around.

Go into your Pipboy and go to data tab. There will be an area to go to that will show your active missions. Then you just pick the one you want active and click on it.

It does make you easier to see when you are sneaking though.

I'm a big fan of the railway rifle
You guys got me back playing this for the first time in years. This time I discovered the joys of the railway rifle. I owned the Robotech Factory with that thing.

Currently scheming to take over Tennypenny Tower.

Question -

For those who chose not to blow up Megaton, where do you keep your stuff? I've just been stuffing it into locker in Lucus Sims place, since he died confronting Mr. Burke. Can you get a "house" at some point? I forgot.

Besides the active mission (already explained), you can also place your own marker on the map, too.

Yes. Yes you can. Relatively early too.

If you disarm the bomb you can still get the key from Lucas Sims son for your house in Megaton.

So that's how. My explosives is pretty low so I never tried. However...

I just helped the ghouls take over Tenpenny Tower, so I have that suite now.

Had a half hour last night so I figured it's war against ants time. Cleaned them out with extreme vengence. Not gonna lie, I put a few bullets into the bodies just to be safe.

And nothing. What was the point of that? Anyway went back to megaton and found the chick that starts the wasteland book missions. I had already gone to the super mart but didn't get into that building very much so I went back. Tons of stuff there after I cleaned it out. Went back to megaton and she was closed. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure there's a quest someplace that involves killing off a bunch of ants that overran a little town. It sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Well you got XP. XP is important. There is a side mission called Those!. That is really where you end the fire ant menace. You should have met a little kid at the Super Mart and he would ask you to help him find his dad in the town of Grayditch. That will start the main side mission for you. At the end of that you can get one perk or another upgraded.

Yeah I didn't start that mission yet. Ok.

It's the one I got early on and put off until I had finished the main story and done some of the DLCs.

Them! Those damn far ants.

So what's a better use of gaining XP - I could keep doing the Wasteland book missions for that short haired chick and I guess gain the capability to make weapons or I could start the little kids mission to find his dad and go on an ant war.

And just as a massive aside - I see someone mentioned that they got the sheriff killed but still managed to get to Tenpenny tower - is that correct? I was worried I lost a whole slew of the possible missions by getting him killed like I did. And is it worth it to break into the bad guys house in Megaton? I was debating trying to pick the lock to see what was up in there.

I suggest the Wasteland Survival Guide mission first. It's one of my go-to missions when I start the game. The "far ants" take a lot of ammo (at least they did my first playthru - I used less each time I've gone), so I suggest stocking up before going there.

Understood. I will be loaded with grenades as well because watching those suckers blowed up is very satisfying.

Oh, quick note I just remembered - in the supermarket doing the survival guide book. The first time I went in I only went into the small room on the right and found the laser gun and left when I saw the bad guys on the blip screen. So obviously when I went back I had to deal with them. I finally (yeah, dumb me) that the targeting system also allows me to figure out what weapon the bad guys have which (yeah, again, dumb me) is hugely beneficial when planning an attack on multiple raiders. Anyhoo. I see one of them only has a knife so I don't even target her. Deal with the uzi's first, amirite?

Get all of them finally dead and only have knife chick left. She runs straight at me to knife me. I calmly go into my pipboy and pull out the 357 or whatever the game calls it, get out of the pipboy, and she is almost right on top of me when I target her head with 2 shots hit the action button and watch the screen as my guy blows her head clear off with one shot and the head goes with the velocity of the bullet and the body keeps going with the velocity of her running towards me and gets flipped up over me into the wall behind me. Very John Woo style. Very cool. Solid game play results right there.

Lond winded "look I blew a bad guys' head clear off" post. True. But I really dont' want to work today.

I definitely suggest finishing the Survival Guide. And losing the sheriff didn't really hurt you on future missions.

My general strategy goes like this. When facing someone with a one handed weapon like a pistol or a sub machine gun I aim for the head in VATS, and then finish them off in real time when I run out of AP. When facing anyone using a two handed weapon I am for one of their arms in VATS. When you cripple someone's arm while they are carrying a 2 handed weapon they will drop it and have to run and go get it. This usually allows me time to finish off my clip and reload before they can get to their weapon, pick it up, and start firing at me again.

Finally progressing through the main story in far Cry 3. I pretty much cleaned out Relics and letters in the areas I can go to, so figured it was time to move on. Just found the piece that goes around the compass. Onwards to find the knife/dagger or whatever.

Demon Souls waiting in the wings. But don't want to get controls mixed up. So will finish FC3 first.

if it's me against a single bad guy 1-on-1, sometimes I like to just shoot whichever arm is holding the weapon. occasionally they won't pick up the weapon, and instead will just run to the nearest corner and crouch into the fetal position with their hands over their heads. then I just walk up to them calmly, raise my weapon and say "shh...it will all be over soon."

This usually allows me time to finish off my clip and reload before they can get to their weapon, pick it up, and start firing at me again.
if it's me against a single bad guy 1-on-1, sometimes I like to just shoot whichever arm is holding the weapon. occasionally they won't pick up the weapon, and instead will just run to the nearest corner and crouch into the fetal position with their hands over their heads. then I just walk up to them calmly, raise my weapon and say "shh...it will all be over soon."
 I like that.

I definitely suggest finishing the Survival Guide. And losing the sheriff didn't really hurt you on future missions.
Agreed. The survival guide is more entertaining and useful than the main quest. It sends you to many key locations, triggers other cool side quests, and supplies decent loot/weapons that can be used throughout the rest of the game. Moira is your new best friend.

Solid.

My strategy is: if they're melee and running at me - aim for legs. If they're huge and can't be taken down quickly (supermutants) aim for the arm to dislodge their weapon, otherwise aim for head.

You can aim for the weapon itself. Not good if you need the weapon (for repairs or use), very good if you don't need/want the weapon.

Took a break from Last of Us when I wandered around looking for the door to the science building for like an hour and couldn't find it. Started playing Thomas was Alone which is free on PS+ right now. Excellent little puzzle game with a cool narrator and story. Very minimalist style but a lot going on with each different type of shape. Some witty humor too. In the vein of Portal but not as grand a scale.

Starting playing Hearthstone on my Ipad (free Blizzard game based on Warcraft and played out simply in a nice card game setting).

I typically don't like ipad games, nor did I think the game would have any depth but then the other day I saw Krip playing online I figured if he liked it, I should give it a shot.

I killed 3 hours with out blinking tonight and I am still in basic practice mode. Quite a nice little game they put together.
Been playing this too. A lot like Magic the gathering but with WoW characteristics. Fun and somewhat addicting game.

Beat uncharted 2 - far superior game to the first one overall. I still wish it didn't devolve into "enter big room, shoot guys for 5 mins then go to next room and shoot guys for 5 mins, repeat." Still, much more enjoyable overall.

Next, I think I'm ready to start Dark Souls again. I only killed 2 bosses and got to the dragon on the bridge last time, so I'll probably just start new. I'm hoping to give it more time this go through and make some progress.

Finished Tomb Raider DE last night. I'd bought it a few weeks ago spur of the moment when it was on special for $30. Enjoyed it much more than expected, really good game. Now back to the AC4 DLC, then probably Watch Dogs after that.

Hey gamer geeks,

Anything new and exciting coming out soon? I'm on vacation for three weeks and MLB 13 and Fallout3 replays are getting a little old.

Thanks!

Enjoying Far Cry 3 I suppose. I like going around and finding the relics and letters. Enjoy the puzzle factor climbing the towers. Enjoy trying to do a real stealthy base mission, taking out the camps without an alarm being sounded. But to me, the weakness of the game is the storyline missions. There are really only two. One, endless hordes of enemies mission. I really don't care for them. But I guess I can tolerate them. Two, the dream sequence missions. Ugh, I hate these damn things. I really, really could do without any of those. Truth be told, I only do the main story because I have too. I am at the point where I couldn't go any further unless I started the main storyline quests to open up some more map. So I've had to do a bunch of them in a row and it is just becoming painful. I have to protect someone until the plane gets off the ground. Thought I was doing well only to have him die. I'll replay it until I get past it. But really, just so I can get some more map open.

So Target is having a Triple Trade In Value deal going on this week. Basically, whatever they offer you normally for a trade in, they will triple it this week. For example, I normally would get $18.64 for Infamous:Second Son. After the triple deal, I'm getting close to $56. That's CRAZY. The crazier part? They are selling Just Dance 2014 for the PS4 this week for $20. The trade in value after the triple deal? $45. Yup. You end up making +$25. Other games that will give you a positive profit include the new South Park game, Battlefield 4, plus several others. Deal lasts until Saturday.

Yep I saw that, I already platinum'd Second Son so I think I'll take advantage of it. Thanks for the heads up on Just Dance, will definitely do that as well.

So continuing Fallout news. I have made most of the trophies I am going to make in FO3. I have a couple more left. Some I won't get like being bad karma at level such and such. But I have already knocked out 53 out of 72 I think. So that's what I did this weekend wandered and picked up missed side missions. Like the Nuka Cola challenge. Need 8 more for that one. Cleared out some places just some good ol' casual exploration and killing. Still just me and DM. But I am going to head back to DC to find more locations and I will be picking up my buddy for that.

So I went ahead and picked up New Vegas and started a game. I got the Courier Stash which was helpful. I was mainly looking to get a feel and will start a new game next weekend now that I know what I will be hitting early on. Story seems a little more in depth. Maybe it's because I have gotten the hang of the mechanics but I am blazing through this. Is it shorter than 3? Because like in a few hours I have already caught up to the guys that shot me and killed the Khans that were involved. All I wanted to do was talk, conversation is a lost art. Anyway I feel like I am a long way through the main mission already and I have been grabbing every side mission I can.

One thing I noticed is I only get to pick perks every other time I level up. Am I doing something wrong or is that the way it is?

The story becomes bigger than just you / revenge - there's plenty there.

Yes, in NV, it's every other level. Less overpowered that way.

Doesn't sound like you're picking up many side missions if you progressed that far.

I keep trying. I have done several but maybe I have missed some. I am currently trying to track down medicine and supplies for Camp Forlorn.

See I never considered my guy overpowered in FO3 until after I got the killer armor. I mean a lot of stuff could kill me if I wasn't careful. Now I get overpowered in Skyrim and those games. I could take out an entire city and never break a sweat doing it. FO has never felt that way to me.
