I'm obviously on board for Fallout 4, but I really wish this was Obsidian (the folks behind Fallout: New Vegas) and not Bethesda proper.

Wolfenstein: The New Order. It's one of the very, very few single-player only FPS games out there.Need a game, or game series recomendation. My 13 year old likes playing the CoD campaigns. We play online a bit together, but he prefers playing the campaign. However, they are fairly short. Are there games that are more built around the campaign, are fairly straightforward (he is not going to want a complex battle system), linear (not open world/sandbox), and are just shoot em up (FPS prefered)? I have to believe these are out there, but it seems most of the games lately are either sandbox, built around the online experience, or more puzzle, problem solving that he'd enjoy.
Doesn't have to be brand new, PS4 or PS3 are both options.

Best FPS co-op series of games ever. Up to 4 player co-op, linear campaign with the option for side quests and exploring for easter eggs and treasure. It is all about running and gunning (aim/shoot/destroy), and the character leveling system allows for fantastic character diversity (although I guess the leveling system could be considered complex because of the many options however you can respec pretty much any time so no-harm, no foul) and as a bonus it is absolutely hilarious (particularly BL2).
Story actually doesn't matter. It can have a story, or no story. I just know he doesn't want to wander a city for an hour looking for a specific person to give him his next quest. The OP wanted more linear / story focused, and less sandbox. No worry about that, the main quest is spelled out quite clearly from the beginning with waypoints to guide you through every step of the way. You also have the option to pick up side quests and all the side-quest givers are marked on your map when you enter a new region so no searching for any hidden people to give you additional content. There are certain things which you can search out for additional XP (like Vault hunter symbols) but they are not related to the story (or side quests) so you can ignore them as you like.Story actually doesn't matter. Thanks for all the suggestions though, I will give some of these a shot.
I agree that it is a desolate and unenjoyable setting but I think that is the intent. Still fun games though (I liked New Vegas more personally).I'm disappointed in myself but I can't get into the Fallout games. I have zero doubt that I will try 4 but for the most part it's dark and desolate. I just not a world I enjoy.

My biggest gripe with all Bethesda open world games is the barren landscapes. Miles and miles of nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Even though it's post apocalyptic, there should be a lot more wildlife. The elder scrolls games have no excuse.
This is why you play on PC and get the increased wildlife mod or the mod that increases the number of NPCs you see in the wild. Yes, that is a downside. My skyrim installation includes two or three separate programs used to load mods in the correct order and merge them or whatever. I actually think PC gaming has been better the last couple years. My previous PC there were lots of video driver issues where yeah, I'd need to use one driver for one game, then upgrade or downgrade the driver to play another. I've had my current PC about 4 years now, and I don't think I've done anything but an occasional driver upgrade when a new game comes out. So far I don't think I've had to back down to make stuff work. Seems like at least AMD has been doing a better job lately.Every 18 - 24 months or so, I rebuild my PC so that it is still one of the top rigs out there. I haven't had crashes or conflicts in years but it also takes an investment of time and money that not everyone has available.
I'm in that window now but don't really see much that I can do to upgrade at this point. It's still pretty much top-of-the-line.
Wat? Rabbits, wolves, bears, saber-cats, butterfly, deer, elk, moose, mammoth, fox, skeever, mudcrab, horker, spiders, goats, hawks etc.Respectfully disagree. There is lots of wildlife in Skyrim.New Vegas was my favorite of all the Bethesda games. My biggest gripe with all Bethesda open world games is the barren landscapes. The place is teeming with wildlife. How much more do you want?
Either things have changed since you stopped or I am just crazy lucky. I almost never have crashes, glitches or conflicts (even when dealing with mods, which admittedly I don't do that often, Skyrim and Borderlands 2 I went notably heavy with modding on). The biggest problem with PC gaming is having to upgrade your rig every 3-4 years if you want to play the latest games. Fortunately I have such a backlog that I think I will be able to push that out to 5 years or more.I would love to play on a PC that never crashes or has conflicts. I'm AMD also and have the FX-9590 with a well-built machine around it. Everything runs awesome and updates everywhere have been very smooth; no issues whatsoever. anyone know how the first two hold up today?Fallout games on sale on steam.
I'm sure get plenty of game time once the little one shows up.Bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the sale. I'm less than a quarter of the way through Witcher 1 then I'll either run through Batman: Arkham Asylum for a change of pace or just jump right into Fallout 3.
My pregnant wife is asleep on the couch by 9 each night so I can fire up the laptop and play for a couple hours. 5:30 wakeup is tough but sacrifices must be made.

Yes please.NOT CONFIRMED - Dark Souls 3 - Leaked screenshots
Its allegedly coming out for the One and PS4. If true I would be ecstatic as I have never been sold on Bloodborne, other then it being a souls game by relation and this would mean I wouldn't "need" to buy a PS4.
