Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

I think it's much better than Battlefront 1.  Maps are gorgeous.  I suck at it so far, but I've never been great at Battlefield games either.  There's always gonna be someone a thousand times better than I am.  It's about fun factor with me.
100% in the same boat.

Xbox live Black Friday sales have started. Just got Wolfenstein 2 for $30. Among the other good options are Assassin’s Creed for $41, and Witcher 3 complete edition for $20.
Just picked up Halo Wars and Deus Ex Mankind Divided for < $20 because I can’t help myself. This is the first time I can remember digital games receiving major price cuts. I’ve got quite the backlog now, and I haven’t even picked up the new Star Wars, AC, or Pubg yet.

We have pretty similar tastes. When you get thru your queue, check out Horizon: Zero Dawn, almost at end game and love it. If you liked Witcher, you’ll dig this game.
I played Horizon and loved that game big time. I am going to play the the DLC soon as well!. That is my GOTY for sure!

I’m pretty sure there’s a number of hackers in CoD:WWII. Watching the kill cams (and there were lots) of some strange things happening. I watched a guy sprint across the three opening paths and kill three guys. First, me which he turned and got a head shot while I was behind barrels. Next he sprinted past a door, glanced right and got a kill on the guy who was already firing into a different building (so running through my guys firing path). Finally, this superstar looked forward again and took out my teammate that was already firing at him and behind barrels. This is all in one kill cam. Maybe this guy is the greatest ever or maybe he is using an aim bot.

In a different game, one guys kill cam had me with a white triangle over my head the whole time (I’m assuming others too). Behind walls, vehicles, etc. the triangle was always there. He was also able to shoot me through a destructible brick wall. I wasn’t able to do the same. I wasn’t able to get bullets through the wall.

Maybe I’m just complaining but anyone else who plays this game, keep an eye out and see if you notice any of these weird things.
CPU or console?

I do and don’t miss it. I’m not sure when the last one I played was but it was too easy too dump large volumes of time into. Also those stupid marching band trumpets. It felt like they never stopped. In a game, before a game, after a game, in the menu. I still hear them in my head.
I never had the sound on for the game.  I always listened to music.  That's why I love playing football games, sometimes I'm in the mood for music and video games.  Most other games I feel I need the sound of the game for the best experience.

Have not played video games in a long time, but thinking of getting an XBox One S (Should I not bother & wait for the X prices to come down?)

to play COD: WWII. Not sure what other games would be worth buying other than Forza or Gears of War. I'd be looking for good games with online play. Not one for campaign mode.

Should I bother?

I just got this last week on PS4 (which is certainly inferior to the PC version). I was super iffy on the purchase, because the game got a bad rap on console release (for good reason) as it was basically an alpha build with lots of issues even compared to the PC version (which was also very buggy a while ago).

But it has couch co-op split screen, which is harder and harder to find these days. My girlfriend and I are LOVING IT. We're obsessed with it. Its like if Minecraft, The Walking Dead, and Fallout were all thrown together in a blender. Don't expect a story--its all gameplay. The graphics are not very good and the player character animations are downright bad when you see your co-op partner murdering zombies. But damn is it fun and addicting. The resource gathering, eating/drinking/temp control survival aspect, the crafting and building, the atmosphere...we love it. You really feel like you're trying to survive in a Walking Dead-esque zombie apocalypse.

Its not perfect. As I said, the graphics are not great. Maybe not even good. It can be a little glitchy (but we haven't experienced any real issues here and it constantly auto-saves--no re-loads if you #### up--so the one or two times we had to restart the PS4 because of an error we haven't lost any progress or anything). It is hard (unless you lower the difficulty--I did make it so that zombies only walk at all times, for more of that Walking Dead feel, whereas the default setting is for the zombies to run at night). The mechanics, crafting, inventory management, etc might be too much for some people. We love it, but it depends what type of gamer you are--if you don't mind how Minecraft generally works, if you've ever played that, its similar and similarly clunky--but addicting imo. Also the drawback of the couch co-op is that if you're using it, it has to be an offline local game, you can't play with others online while you have two people on the same console--that doesn't bother us, I think it would be a nightmare to also have to worry about other players taking your resources or killing you online anyways--although I could see it being a blast to play with a group of friends if you were all on the same page and allied. But offline couch co-op is what we use the game for, so I can't speak to the online experience.

Basically its rough around the edges, but it is basically the only game in a REALLY niche genre (at least on consoles)--it gives my girlfriend and I EXACTLY what we were looking for---a crafting/building/survival zombie experience that is difficult but rewards creativity, planning, and exploration.

It was listed between $25-30, but I got it cheaper with some trade-ins...I think its definitely worth that if you like this genre of game at all. Its the best $15 I've spent in a while and we've only had it a week and already put a ton of hours into it--we had a couple "practice" runs where we got destroyed by the first night 7 horde and now we're on day 33 or so and really getting the hang of it.

Any article you find on google about this game will probably be about its horrendous critical reception upon release--a lot of time has passed since then and the game is 100% playable and enjoyable now, has been updated and patched a ton, and to us is great. Especially at less than half the cost of a brand new AAA game that might give you only 25 hours of campaign or something. But on the flip side, if you're looking for a really polished, graphically stunning experience, this isn't it.
Ok, so I did go ahead and buy this for $30 used at Gamestop.  It's...um...different.  I thought I could get past the graphics and animations, not sure I can.  I hope I can, because it seems interesting enough.  Haven't played it with the fiance yet.  Not sure I should even bother.  I don't think she will like it.  I think I might be trading this back in soon (lose $).  I have a small amount of hope I/we will enjoy it, we shall see.

I like non-story based games for the same reason. Except it’s podcasts instead of music.

I still think that one of the coolest things that doesn’t get talked about enough is the Xbox 360 being able to play music from your library instead of just whatever the game had.

Name a few games for this...  I’m a big podcast listeners, but the only game I have where it really works is rocket league. I can’t do it during mp games, the footsteps are too important.

I did that with MLB: The Show.  Was great because you can load music and give your created guy his own walk up music.  My character's song was Big Poppa.

NCAA Football! :D

But really any sports or racing game would work. Lots of the retro games have text and while the music is good it’s not necessary (like the first Mario that had Yoshi). Some indie games are pretty good for it, like Stardew Valley. For shooters, Destiny campaigns are alright. I think you can get by without sound in something like Battlefield One and the giant Conquest maps. GTA Online too or just clearing side missions in GTA.

Also you can mess with settings a bit too. Lots of games have built in mechanics or settings to help out the hearing impaired. Even games that have a fairly simple story can be played with just subtitles.

It's a cool feature but not that important.  I use my speaker bar and phone through blue tooth.  Works well.
Oh for sure. It was just cool because the games would automatically raise and lower the music (when a character was talking or something). Your “car radio” could switches over to your music. Or playing on stadium sound system in the background. I forget what game (maybe Madden) but I had a buddy come at after awhile was like “Wow this game has a great sound track. And they didn’t even use the censored versions.”

Anyone have the PlayStation VR?  I'm considering getting it when on sale.
I do and it's great. I've asked a couple of times in this thread with no response though, so I think I'm the only one. I don't have a ton of games, but VR Worlds that comes with the game (or at least did when I bought it) is a great intro. Since then, the best games I've played are the Star Wars Battlefront X-wing VR mission (short but awesome,) Resident Evil 7 (unbelievable) and Skyrim VR. I just started the latter, but it's sensational. Getting an Aim controller for Christmas and possibly a wheel for driving games. There's going to be a boom on VR content coming.

I'm considering getting the Skyrim combo for $350.

I'm waiting on the content and price drop.  But thinking of Skyrim in VR makes me salivate.

Any motion sickness issues?

Any motion sickness issues?
I've had none at all. Most games coming out now have several options for mitigating motion sickness for those that are prone to it (snap turning rather than smooth or teleportation movement) but I have never had an issue. My biggest problem is getting hot inside the headset.

It definitely isn't for everyone. As someone who played a lot of the Dead Island games and Dying Light, obviously the FPS melee zombie killing has been done better. And the graphics are not good. And the crafting systems are complex, especially if you've never played Minecraft.

But it just scratches a certain itch for us that allows us to look past the rough edges. If after a few hours (long enough to figure out the crafting enough to collect resources/start building something) it doesn't grab you then it just may not be for you, it definitely has a lot of flaws (which I hope I did a decent enough job pointing out in my earlier review, since I recommended it overall).

Also I may be wrong but I think Gamestop has a return policy within a week or two of purchase for a used game. Just say it won't run or keeps crashing or something, if it turns out it's not for you guys--save your $30

Ugh, this is annoying, our company just updated our whole IT infrastructure.  Get in today and want to check out who is starting up their online sales and Playstation Store, Humble Bundle, Origin, and IGN are all now blocked with our new policies.  I can waste time shopping on Amazon or reading articles on CNN all day, but god forbid I try to read about games or buy a game...

Oh also amusingly enough, all that stuff is blocked, but Steam isn't, yeah, that makes sense.

Well the IT guys aren't going to cut off their own Steam access. Haha

I was pretty much gonna buy it without your review, but you are one of many who said this game is pretty good despite the flaws.  I will try it more and see if it grows on me.  I don't think I can return it, they offered me a warranty on it for like 3 bucks or something, and I didn't take it. They said it covers things like damage, etc...

I'll just bite the bullet on this one.  Won't be the first time. And who knows, maybe I'll wind up really liking it.  But at first glance, mind you I only played about 20 minutes, it is very meh.  I mean my guy punched trees and rocks to get wood and small stones.  WTF.  Also, where are these feathers????  I can get past the graphics if the game play is good, but I'm not sure if I've played enough to determine that yet.  But my oh my...those graphics and animations.......

This is where you make nice w/ the IT guys.  Most are gamers, and some may even be console users.  They will understand.

Haha. The feathers are in bird nests that you can find on the ground. If you keep following that tutorial it will eventually teach you how to craft an axe so you don't have to punch things. Then shovel, club, etc until you craft your way up the resource tree.

So it sounds like you don't have much experience with the crafting/survival genre? That would definitely make the learning curve steeper.

Yeah, I was never into the crafting type games.  But with that whole zombie and/or apocalypse genre, I wanted to give it a try.

I'm one step closer to buying the PS4 VR Skyrim bundle.  Got the OK from my wife so now it's just up to me to determine if it's worth it.  I know as a kid playing video games I've always wanted a great VR experience and this seems to be the best way to have it for the money.  The issue I always have is finding time.

i probably wouldn't mind searching for ####### twigs and berries all day in a VR world if it's done right.

And a serious reply - if a quality RACE game shows up on VR - I'm all in.

Currently what do you need - PS4 PRO and the VR headset?   Any special controls and such?

There's already a rally car game and I think Gran Turismo is either out or about to be. You don't even need the PS4 Pro, but for games with Pro support, it's definitely a very good thing. If you already have a PS4, you can use VR with it, but the experience on Pro is better for many games.

Also, you can play most games with the DS controller, but some games are played with the Move controllers. I expect those the be replaced by better next-gen controllers before much longer, but I believe they come with the VR bundles.

I know everyone is always waiting for me to update when and what I'll be playing.  PUBG... Tonight... Extended session.  I hope for lots of shaming from TLEF and John Bender.

Screw it!  What's the point of working if I can't buy the toys I want.  Just order the VR Skyrim bundle on Amazon and signed up for their Visa card to get another $70 off.  With the tax they charged the total came to $299.  Pretty sweet deal.

Sorry - I was asking can you use a wheel with the VR.

I'm picking up a wheel this holiday season regardless.  My other one is dead
Yes, they have full wheel, pedal, and shifter setups so you can clutch and shift, accelerate and brake just like IRL.

Considering I paid $450 plus tax for the VR bundle (13 months ago)  and Skyrim (pre-ordered a few months back), yeah - that's a great deal!

Now that I pulled the trigger I’m very excited. I can’t wait to get Fallout 4 VR.

So this Skyrim VR. Do you play with the controller and just have a headset on to be fully immersed?  Is that what we’re talking?

You can play with the standard DS4 controller or the Move controllers. With the latter, you actually use your hand movements to swing a sword, hold up your shield, cast spells, nock and shoot arrows, etc. It's more immersive that way but the controls take some getting used to. Either way, it's mesmerizing to actually feel like you're IN the game rather than viewing it on a screen.

### #### it, you are killing me.  :(

This is what I always dreamed of when playing a game as I am an uber RPG nerd, and yet I am almost certain I would get severe headaches very quickly (I can't view 3D movies for example with out searing pain).
