Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I just don't think they could ever top BL2 the gameplay and humor was just spot on for me. Hard to try and beat or match something like that without coming up short.
I think this is correct but is not entirely on the studio, a lot of it has to do with fans expectations. If it were possible to quantify the gameplay/humor into a number (X) I think it is very possible that they could create a game that achieves the exact number that BL2 did but it would not be received as well as the fan expectations are always X+1.

I enjoyed the Pre Sequel well enough, the story felt rushed but it was still BL and BL is still the best co-op gaming experience ever.

BTW there is a fan theory that the release date was included in the trailer at the 1:41 and 1:52 mark.  Something about buildings in the background displaying "01" & "10" in the same font. Could mean 01 October, 2019 or 10 January, 2020. Or it could mean #### all.

October is the 10 year anniversary of the original BL.

Yes me lawd!!!!

Riiight-oooo!!!!

As you wishhhhh!
So Warcraft 2 was the first game I ever really played online. My parents had split and I was on summer break, so at 10pm I would head down to “the family PC” in the dining room, unplug the cord from the phone and into the computer to play my dad in WC2.  That was always a blast. I would come up with a strategy and win a long battle, the next night he would counter it and win.  Back and forth, back and forth.  One night I created like 10 of the suicide bombers, snuck them around back and took out his castle and his gold train of peons crippling everything.  The next night I tried again and he had archer towers around the entire perimeter.

Good times

Q3? 2020 maybe. Can't imagine they kept a lid off even it's existence only to be ready to roll in September. It wasn't that long ago that the continuing existence of the studio was being called into question.

Then again maybe the whole Pitchford lawsuits thing played great cover for the development process.

Q3 this year would be amazing though.
I'm still not convinced that the studio won't fall apart before getting BL3 out.

Watch Dogs 2. I want to like it but, meh.

I get that the dude in the first one was all vengeancy so it didn't bother me so much when he went full Call of Duty on bad guys. But the gun play just doesn't fit in WD2.

Expert parkour, super-hackers is totally plausible (likely even if my life experience with computer nerds is any indication) but adding Super-Rambonator to the mix is just too much. It simply doesn't fit these characters at all.

Read many similar complaints online and adjusted my game play to entirely non-lethal and it has become a lot more fun.

It's best to remote hack as much as possible because the last thing you want is to go all Streets of San Francisco with the cops all over your ####. Although frustrating as it is trying to get away from the police it's also a helluva fun break from time-to-time.

Even with the change in play style, the game is only above average, maybe good in it's best moments.

Finally playing Dark Souls 3. Went with the no-brainer Knight. Started off easy enough. Killed the ice lizard thing in the demo area despite the warning to turn back. Took out that mini-boss first try. Only thing that gave me any issue was the Uchigatana guy. That took me 6 or 8 tries. Went on to the High Wall or whatever. Been going pretty well. I think I am to where it is time for the boss fight. I killed a trio of Knights but the fourth one with Red Eyes had me near death so had to high tail it back to the fire. I know I can either go in the building at the top, or through a gate at the bottom. The bottom looks to be the boss area? But anyways, doing ok so far I guess.

I enjoyed Dark Souls 3, but I remember very little about it now.  Whereas I have every square inch of Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls burned into my memory.  I guess in hindsight DS3 feels a little stale at this point.

I do feel less unsure with this game than in previous versions. Definitely have a better feel for what to look for, what to expect, etc.

Can someone suggest a new game for Android? Something for the crapper.

I dont mind paying but definitely want single player only. Something of the card/puzzle/logic genre. Thanks

I am playing and enjoying ELEX quite a bit. It's a third person RPG from Piranha Bytes (Gothic / Risen games).

It got fairly poor reviews, and it's easy to see why: it's clunky, AI is questionable, the graphics are generally Xbox 360 level, the voice acting is laughable, it's ridiculously hard (you are a nothing in combat for a very long time), etc. But this is true of all Piranha Bytes games, yet they still sell and have their fans because they really deliver a deep role playing experience. And this one is probably the best of the bunch in that respect  - tons of options, and even though the combat is clunky (with a Monty Python-esque "run away" being the best strategy for your first dozen levels), it's oddly compelling too, and the jetpack makes exploring a blast. The world is massive, along with some huge cities as well. It's easy to get lost (and you will, because the minimap is bare, and there aren't very many quest markers - really, this game does not hold your hand at all.)

Basically, if you are a Piranha Bytes fan (like me), you'll love it. That's prettymuch who this post is for, because everyone else will hate this game :)

Well for those of us who wondering what happened with Anthem, a great in-depth article just came out:

How BioWare's Anthem Went Wrong by Jason Schreier

I had assumed that there was a reboot at some point in those 6 years, but the truth is worse. There was no reboot because the first 4 years or so were wasted in pre-production before they even figured out what the game was going to be. After several leadership changes, the guy brought on board near the end had to get the game ready to ship and just throw everything together within the last 12-16 months. Really good read if you're fascinated with the behind-the-scenes tidbits of the gaming industry.

I got stuck in this game somewhere around level 10 because I ran out of things to do and places to go that didn't mean certain immediate death. So I gave up. I feel like the devs didn't even want me to succeed at anything.

Yesterday was not a good day rumor wise for BL3. Some accidental tweets were released and taken back that made it appear BL3 was an epic store exclusive for an undetermined period of time. People thought it was an April fool's joke but no one confirmed that.

They don't - they are humorless Germans. :)

Seriously, it's really hard, and you must run away from *everything* for a long time. The upside is you *can* run from everything - it's how I got to the cleric city, joined them, etc. I'm around level 10, and I'm just starting where I can venture out with a pretty cool black hole gun and some potions to replenish energy - been starting to kill things.

This is a good article.  I tend to be fairly optimistic and can see a really good game there if they can ever finish it.  I got a good 60 hours out of the game so if it never gets better, at least I got my money's worth.  I hope it does get fixed and turns into a game I hop onto once a week or so for the next two years.

Ha!!! I guess I gave up just a bit too soon. I was trying to get to places where my quests were sending me and even running got me killed. I'll probably try again at some point.

Wasn't that rumor going strong well before April Fools though? Either way that sucks for PC players, if it's true. I'm for sure going to avoid epic store and just go console. Mods would be nice but they aren't going to make or break my BL3 experience.

I too got my money's worth, but like you I hope they make some big changes and give me a reason to return. The core game play is solid and can be built around.

I know nothing of this game, but the weapon names remind me of the old Buck Rogers RPG. Back in the Gold Box days.

So what's the problem with the Epic store?  I would rather park all my games under one roof but that's not how capitalism works so I have Origin, UPlay, Steam etc. Why should I care if I add another one for a game I'm very excited about?

For me he worse news, by far, is that the lead writer from BL2 is not on the BL3 team and neither is one of the lead production guys.  That has me nervous.

And now to dumb this thread down a notch- looking for a adventure/shooter on PS4 that won’t take me 100 hours and isn’t super open world. I only play a couple games per year and have enjoyed the Uncharted series, Bioshock on PS3, Tomb Raider, God of War etc. I last played Horizon Zero Dawn and enjoyed the story but I never went much further than that. Was looking at maybe an Assassin Creed game, Bloodborne, Ark or Prey? Any thoughts on those or anything else that might make sense? Waiting for Last of Us 2!

I would just like to plug "Don't starve together". It is a 2d overhead survival game that will kick your butt over and over again if you do not use Google to cheat.

It is available on all consoles/steam. I have since given up on it as it has become too easy. The fun part is when you keep dieing.

I strongly recommend.

Prey. Definitely Prey.

New BL 3 news this morning with release date and new trailer

========

Borderlands 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on Sept. 13, developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K announced on Wednesday. The PC version of Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store until April 2020.

MUCH better than the other (somewhat weird and underwhelming) video. Some takeaways:

New classes / powers.

Named villains. Hopefully as well-written as Handsome Jack was.

Looks like we'll have usable  Mechs?

Split Screen Co-op (yay!!)

Same crazy guns/loot (don't change that)

Looks the... same? Maybe that's not so good, but I like all the other stuff.

I'll look again, but I didn't notice Claptrap. They have to bring him back, right?

Wasn’t he clinging to the bottom of some kind of ship rising into the air in the 1st trailer?

I have no experience with Epic store, but from what I've heard:

1. Severely lacking in features in comparison to Steam.

2. Launcher is a buggy mess.

3. Huge privacy/security concerns.

I am not sure I use many/any Steam features (the collectors cards are dumb IMO, I immediately put the all on the market)

2. That could be an issue.

3. Why? Did they have an issue previously? I am not sure what info they will have to collect on me for this but, we'll see.

This should give you a better understanding on the features.

Regarding 3, I've seen people mention that their computer protection views the launcher as a virus (!), and in the feature list "Chi-Com spying" is a concern. I'm sure there others way more knowledgeable on this, but there's enough red flags for me to be concerned. Sounds like this venture operates in a very haphazard manner.

Yea this was a pretty big bombshell not just about Anthem but the industry as a whole. Terrible leadership combined with an overworked, underpaid development team leads to a ####ty product. How can they take 6 years for pre-production? Then when everyone was saying they were paying $60 for a beta test, they were all correct because there was no testing done before then. They had no time and the internal servers kept crashing which meant they couldn't test it.

What a mess.

Next big JRPG - Project EVE.

Here was their initial design meeting from a few years ago:

"OK - here are the assignments!

Team Alpha - you get the engine, objects, mapping, GUI, and weather.

Team Beta - you get the background, characters, story line, dialogue, and balancing.

Team Gamma - butt physics."

Team Gamma earned their pay.

Dark Souls 3... kinda stuck. Can't beat the Dancer thing to go that way. Farron Keep is an absolute nightmare and, even if I get there, I think the odds of me being able to take on the Abyss Watchers is next to zero. Not really sure what way to go.

I’d save Dancer for down the road.  Have you gone through the Road of Sacrifices and killed the Crystal Sage?  I’d do that, then head up to the Cathedral of the Deep.  If all else fails, farm souls.

Done both of those. Though I missed the part of Cathedral where you find Patches. But the Crystal Sage and the Deacons or whatever are all kaput.

I never could get past Dancer.

Really enjoying Sekiro.  I'm slow but finally starting to get it.  25 hours in and I'm probably a third (?) through it but it should go faster from here.

It's turtles parries all the way down.

Apparently TLOU2 has finished with the mo-cap. Just in time for the PS5.
Definitely felt like it was being marketed as a PS4 game last year though, didn't it? It'll sell like hotcakes, then they'll spice up the graphics a bit and sell it again on the PS5. The exact same scenario played out with the original TLOU last gen, right?

Although the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, so maybe that means less previous-gen remasters.

Is anyone getting Days Gone?  I usually only buy 2 to 3 games a year.  Just don't have the time like I used to.  Plus I suck at games.  I preordered this probably a year ago.  Looked interesting.  Just wondering if anyone else is getting it.

I plan too. But not until after reviews, the inevitable price drop, etc. Like you, I have little time to game, so I'm never in a hurry to pay full price.
