Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

A streamer, called HappyHobbit may have just finished the greatest achievement in gaming history.

He played Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne all in a row and completed all games WITH OUT TAKING A SINGLE HIT.

That is as close to inhuman as one can get in gaming.  It took 16 hours of perfect game play in games that are unbelievably hard not to die and basically impossible to not get hit.
I get that it is an accomplishment. But I imagine by that point, it's work, not fun. Like... a job. I don't want to ever get there.

at the end he looked like he just finished a marathon with a stress level as high as one could imagine.

Clearly this is not something any one does for fun.

As for worrying about getting there, I am closer to being better than Messi and you are closer to being better than LeBron than any of us are to this insane level of skill :)

Going all in on Sekiro.  Should be playing tonight.
Aaaaaand, I'm dying.  A lot.

But it's not Souls combat.  No more tanking behind the shield.  Now it's more read and react between deflect (a parry-like block) dodge (but feels like less invincibility frames) and jump.  Basically, we and enemies have health and poise bars and things happen when either reaches a limit.

I really want to replay all of the Metal Gear Solid games. I know they released an HD collection for PS3/Xbox360 a few years back but from what I can tell it doesn't include the first MGS for some terrible reason. Is my only option to find a used original PlayStation on eBay?

PS1 games play on PS3. Not sure about PS4.

They also made an updated version of MGS for the GameCube called MGS: Twin Snakes. Same game, better graphics. But I still prefer the PS1 version.

My daughter has been watching an old cartoon on YouTube called The Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3. It may be the worst thing I've ever seen. I can't believe Nintendo allowed this.

Those were basically an extension of the Super Mario Super Show version of the cartoon. A lot of the same voice actors too. It was super cheesy but fun for the time.

Yeah, I chose to pass on this one for the time being.  I love Soulsborne, but the previews of Sekiro just didn't do it for me.

So Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for a Q4 2021 release. That's kind of a bummer. I do hope that get it perfected though and aren't wasting 7 years like Bioware did for Anthem.

Finally slowing down on my RE2 fix. Best game I've purchased in years. Kept me entertained for a solid month and a half. I'll take a break from it and come back in a few months to keep it fresh but I've beaten it 11 times now and have done all the side content except No Way Out. Easily my game of the year.

So what's next. Not sure where to go from here. I played a few rounds of Apex but it hadn't grabbed me yet. Pubg is still the only BR game I enjoy mainly because of the close to realistic scenario it presents.

Next big game I'm waiting on is Cyberpunk 2077. Until then, I guess I'll just fill in with some more DBD and PUBG. Maybe go back to the backlog and see what can be played.
I went back and beat re2 on hardcore.  It wasn't that hard 👍

Same here. I will probably get it at some point just to try it, but not now. I'd like to see opinions after it's been out a month or so and people have figured out the combat more. That would tell us a lot.

No it's not too difficult. You just have to be a bit more careful since one bite and you're down to red. Two bites, you're dead.

Plus the enemies are definitely more aggressive. You can see side by side comparisons on YouTube. A zombie on standard might shuffle towards you in standard but they turn quickly and lunge at you on hardcore.

I got really good at slowly walking past alot of enemies.  Even the lickers sometimes.  I was sneaky as hell

I always just dashed through the dog segments.  They take way too much ammo and I'd rather just eat a little damage.
Exactly. The dog AI can be fooled if you do slight movements left and right. They want you to run in a straight line so they can anticipate where you're going and dive ahead of you. If you run in a serpentine pattern with slight movements, it keeps resetting the dog's jump attack.

Another crazy thing I noticed playing Hunk so much is that the licker AI can be fooled too. If you run passed them and then turn the camera around to look at them as you're running away, they will do their lunge attack early and miss. If you don't turn around, the AI cheats and kind of teleports to right on top of you to get that attack to connect.

Huh.  I remember seeing YT videos of the Hunk mission where players kept looking behind them while they were running away from the licker outside the West Office. I always thought they were doing that just to keep an eye on the licker as they were booking it to the stairs.  I never realized it was exploiting a gameplay feature.  That's pretty cool -- I love stuff like that.

I thought that too at first. After about 300 times through there though, I realized it was to gain an advantage on the AI. Now that west office licker is a #####. I can't find a consistent way to avoid him. I'm probably going to start shooting him as needed to slow him down. The licker in the basement walkway is much easier to avoid now because of that AI trick.

So The Outer Worlds is going to be an exclusive on Epic's gaming platform and won't come to Steam until 2020.  That pretty much kills my at release enthusiasm.  Not that Steam is the greatest but I don't want all these separate platforms.  Guess I'll just wait it out.

Ouch. Thought it would be out next year sometime. But like you say, better late than too early.

Regarding Anthem, I'm now absolutely convinced that Bioware had a major do-over at some point through that dev cycle, maybe around the halfway point or so.

They had to have. I've heard rumors about how hard it was using frostbite for character animation in the early going. Andromeda I believe was restarted at some point too.

That would mean BioWare has totally botched the development cycle for their last two AAA games. It’s increasingly looking like they’ve lost their past mojo. Maybe the next Dragon Age game turns it around, but I’m not optimistic at this point.

Cyberpunk always seemed like a next gen game so I’m not surprised that is being pushed out.

Depending on if they can turn Anthem around and start making consistent revenue off of it, EA might be looking to end them. I think they thought this was going to be like at least as good as destiny in terms of revenue and probably wanted to see something closer to their Madden and FIFA returns in a shooter genre. If it's costing them more money to maintain than what they're bringing in, Dragon Age could be the last game Bioware ever makes.

Forcing the #1 RPG studio of all time to do a shooter MMO and then shutting them down when they don’t nail it out of the gate would be peak EA.

EA is going to EA. They destroy everything they touch. Madden is junk now, and they've completely bungled Star Wars. Other than Anthem, which is admittedly on extremely thin ice, they don't even have any IPs left that remotely interest me.

Sounds like EA forces so many restrictive practices on their studios they end up setting them up to fail. I've heard they also make them utilize that Denuvo software, which is a major resource hog and makes the games struggle even more.

It's a company run by bean counters anymore.

So that dude who did the Souls run made me think of what my best gaming “accomplishments”  might be....

I’m gonna kinda ramble here as I think of them....

Beating:

Ninja Gaiden

Deadly Towers

My record in Ring King is like 3000-1 with my only loss being a lucky shot by my buddy which, despite my nearly full heath bar, knocked me literally out of the ring. My buddy threw down the controller and refuses to give me a rematch to this day. :lmao:

Dark Souls, DS2, DS3

Ultima Online - buying a large tower.

Contra would be on a lot of people’s lists but honesty the game isn’t nearly as hard as people make it out to be. I could prolly beat it later today without dying once.

I can beat Metroid without any guides in a few hours

Ghosts N Goblins arcade and nes

Beatin Mike Tyson in MT’s Punch Out!

Ill think of some more and let you guys list a few of your own.

I'm like 10-1 vs my wife in Madden.  The one win was the year the Dolphins went 1-15.  We played with her as the Pats and her AI on "all madden" and me as the Dolphins with my AI on "rookie".  She beat me by 6 points and has never played me again.  It's been something like 12 years of her bragging about being the Madden Champion of Casa De Kanil.

I literally took the game out of the console, flung it across the room like a Frisbee, and then snapped it in half and it felt AMAZING! Only game I ever did that too lol. I was an adult when I did it too.

I fully understand. I can still hear the music that plays when you die.

:shudder:

91 sacks in a season with Cornelius Bennett in Tecmo Super Bowl sticks out for me.
