Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Bought an Xbox Series S for NCAA football. It will be like 2005 all over again!!!

It really looks like the hit a home run with this. Looks like they spent a TON of time on Dynasty mode instead of just putting 100% of their resources into their Ultimate Team/My player micotransacation slot machine mode. Can't wait for next week.
It’s gonna be an amazing sports game.

Ready to roll starting 4PM est Monday for me.

Dragons Dogma 2 has been a blast for my non sports game at the moment. 55 hours in and still enjoying all of it.
I bought standard so I have to wait until Thursday:sadbanana:

You can buy an EA play account for a month (it was my first time, so it only cost $1) and get a 10 hour trial starting early

Oh have one until September!!!!!

Did anybody get NCAA25?

Also, ironic thing about the whole ordeal - I never cared about “player likeness” with the NCAA games. In fact, for my friends and I, we would always sim the first 3-4 seasons so all the players were gone.

ETA - similar thing with Madden. Game started getting good when all the original players were mostly retired and new names and faces replaced them .

I pre ordered but got the standard version so no early access. But I have a 10 hour trial downloading as we speak!!!!

I’m excited for you. Everything I’ve read makes it sound like it’s exactly what we waited for. (Not Madden)

Still want to hear honest reviews from FBGs.

Got the free EA Play 10 hour trial and played for a while after work tonight.

I think my only football gaming experience since the last one (so basically my entire 30's....God I'm old) was one random Madden Purchase 7 or 8 years ago. And I honestly didn't put that much time into it. So basically, I've got a major learning curve.

Playing on All American difficulty (using a mediocre team...as that's what I use when I start up a dynasty mode. Dont want to learn the game using Alabama talent and then drop down to scrubs) I'm having a LOT of trouble playing defense. But A).....I'll obviously get better when I learn the controls and B).....I'm pretty sure defense being really hard is kinda by design (since the college game is so offense-heavy these days). In the old games I would mostly just play as my MLB and free-lance all over the field (other than switching to a pass rusher that broke free or a DB if they threw deep) Can't do that now.

On offense, the passing game is pretty fun. Threw some bad picks due to not recognizing coverage, but again...learning curve. The traditional run game (just running dives, off tackles, counters, etc) isn't so fun just yet (need to learn some juke moves) but the new-age run game with read options, jet sweeps, etc...is a blast.

Gonna take a while for me to decide what 1 or 2 star program I want to use for dynasty mode and what playbook I want to roll with. Also have a feeling my old-*** will be capped at All American difficulty at first, but with a few weeks of practice, who knows. Just really glad its back (and holding out hope, even though its very unlikely, that 2k follows with a college hoops game) Looking forward to all the recruiting and program building stuff (which was always my favorite part). Wont be touching "Road to glory" or Ultimate team out of principle (that game mode has RUINED modern sports franchises like Fifa, so the kiddies can have it)

I bought NCAA with the edition that also gives you madden. It’s great. Only played 2 games tonight but super deep playbooks and a lot of fun. Think I’m going to start a dynasty with Navy to run along with an FSU one. If you’re a cfb fan this seems like a must have imo.

I played one of the Madden in the last couple years. But NCAA felt way better. I played a play it now game on all American. Bit overwhelmed with some controls right now but damn was it awesome

I always rolled with South Alabama. You get all that sweet regional talent of the SEC. While the big dogs Bama and Georgia focused on the 5 & 4s, I could get a few decent guys who were left.

One of the hardest programs that I ever built from the ground up was Ohio. Not exactly rich and deep talent pool.

I was part of league here about 15 years ago with boubacarrow, Cuse, and a handful of other guys when it was NCAA 2009. We did a dynasty with the Sun Belt League. I would be willing to join again if another one gets off the ground. I'm also on XBOX.
I was in sun belt as well and would still play if you guys get it going.

Not sure where I'm going with my dynasty, but I do know I will be using custom conferences to return us to regional sanity. Gonna re-establish the pac 10 and put everyone back where they belong

I was in one of these FBGs leagues too, it was fun. I don't think it was the Sun Belt year, must have been one of the others. I think @Corporation may have run it? May be wrong on that. I'd consider joining a new one, depending on the time commitment.

I don't think I've played a sports game since then, as I'm primarily playing shooters or single-player action-adventure type games, but I've got CFB25 preordered and ready to go for this weekend.

CFB 25 is a blast. I've been off of sports games for a while because they never update things other than rosters and the Ultimate crap is a joke, but this is a different beast. Dynasty is fun but not overloaded so you can get immersed without spending your whole life trying to stay on top of all the nuances. Gameplay mechanics are super fun...RPO, option, passing meter are all pretty intuitive.

It will take a while to see where the real flaws lie but I've played about a half dozen games and a few weeks into Dynasty and am enjoying the hell out of it. Picked JMU since its my alma matter and they are a good middle road team and I am really grinding through the Funbelt. Awesome.

I loath the weekly chores and eventually just stopped doing them to slow down my recruiting to keep things challenging.

Actually scratched navy because I don’t want to play in the boring American conference. So put Navy’s playbook in with Nebraska and will restore the glorious option with the Huskers as God intended.
Lost first game with Nebraska 52-17. At least it’s authentic.

Yeah, there's soooo many more options in terms of pre-snap adjustments, custom hot routes etc. I'm sure some of that stuff will help on D but it's gonna take a while for that to become 2nd nature. Back in the day, it was basically just press coverage/cushion and then shifting the d-line. Lots to learn

I’m assuming you are still on Xbox?

Corporation ran the PlayStation dynasty and boubacarrow (sp) ran the Xbox where we did the Sun Belt. 5 or 6 guys is good enough to have some fun. If more want to play even better

I played a little last night - couldn’t quite figure out the RPO, seems like some plays you push X for the QB to keep it, other times you push X to execute the hand off.

I think this is the way it works….

In both the option and RPOs, if you do nothing it hands off the ball. For options, if you push X the QB pulls it and keeps it. For an RPO, it will hand it off unless you hit one of the receiver buttons to hit a pass.

Mostly right however you can tap x to pull it back before you pass.

And the run options whether you handoff or run yourself is based on the ends or lb is triggers and x

Starting to get the feel for some things, but defense is still pretty much all about my play call right now. Feel like i have very little control over the outcome once it is snapped. I make very few plays on my own. Gotta figure out how to manually play D-line to get some pressure or get quick enough on the sticks to manually switch to DB's and make quicker plays on the ball.

On offense, I'm starting to find some passing stuff that works. Deep comeback rounds (with a back shoulder throw) are pretty effective as are most of the longer crossing rounds (once the guy clears the middle of the field, assuming I have enough time). Any sort of shorter crossing route over the middle seems like a pick waiting to happen, as are hitch routes and slants to the outside. Screen have been hit or miss, but I'm mostly playing with a team that has a mediocre O-line.

Also need to figure out how to make some moves running the ball. Right now its mostly just about the blocking, as I'm having trouble timing my cuts or making moves to get extra yards. Zone reads haven't been working too well for me. Haven't tried RPO's yet.

Able to pretty consistently beat teams ranked at least a few points lower than me. Some lower ranked teams with gimicky offenses (Old Dominion ran a ton of hurry up) gave me some issues. If a team is ranked the same or a few points higher, I get trashed. Haven't even tried to play a big boy team yet.

A few pretty obvious issues that probably need to be patched. Definitely WAY too many roughing the kicker penalties. I've started just playing a safe defense rather than trying to block because I was getting a roughing call (even if I'm not controlling the rusher) like 1/3 of the time. And apparently when you play away from home, kicking FG's is nearly impossible. There's also some weird dynasty quirks that they'll likely have to fix. Apparently people are seeing teams with 5 or 6 losses make the playoffs (not good) and EA didn't do a good enough job tuning skin tones for recruits.....so like 1/2 the elite RB's, WR's and DB's are white. (which I dont really care about, but kinda breaks immersion a little bit)

Are you guys pressing a button to catch passes or just throwing it and then waiting to run? I try to switch to WR and do something like Madden, but it seems like he either just catches it or doesn’t regardless of what I push on WR. Maybe I’m just too slow. DB is different. You can definitely press Y to go pick it.

so yesterday I get a text from my daughter that she was playing in a 23u game. Cool. I pause the game, go upstairs ask the wife if she wants to go, she says no, ok, i get changed. RUn over to watch the game, come home fart around and go let me mess around with the game a bit. OH - I left the PS5 on for the last 3 hours? No biggie. OR SO I THOUGHT.

A paused game counted towards my trial time  So now I only have like 4 hours left lol.

I already purchased the standard edition so I just have to wait until Friday when the trial is over

I dunno, I feel kind of like everyone's been so excited about NCAA being back that it's just kind of glowing reviews by default.

I love the dynasty mode and all the effort they put into that instead of ultimate team. But the core gameplay still feels like modern madden. Like the players are running on an ice rink and skating/sliding around. It doesn't feel tight/responsive like Madden/NCAA did back in their hey-day around 2004-05 before the wheels kinda started coming off.

I was hoping these glowing reviews would bode well for this year's Madden. But the bolded doesn't sound like it.

Maybe Madden was bad back then too and we put up with it anyways because it was still a blast to do a dynasty mode with 3 friends.

I played the crap out of every Madden game for a long time. There was a distinct change to the gameplay engine a little after then that made everything "floaty" and it's never been right since then.

The reviews reflect that too as the highest rated Madden games on Metacritic are all before that change.

Madden 2003: 95
Madden 2002: 94
Madden 2004: 94
Madden 2001: 91
Madden 2005: 91

The modern 202x versions have topped out around the mid 70's for ratings with most below that.

I don't think it plays like Madden at all, but I didn't play a ton of Madden last year

As an Xbox household, one of the games that's been on my "to play" list forever is The Last of Us. During the Steam sale a week ago, I realized it was ported to PC in 2023. Initial PC reviews were terrible due to all sorts of graphics issues, but from what I can tell, patches have finally taken care of things. I went ahead and bought it for $40 - unfortunately it's now back to its regular $60. I'm only about 10 hours in, and I'm one of those players that goes slow and checks in all nooks, crannies, etc. so I am not super far into the story yet. Regardless, I'm really enjoying it so far and have run into zero PC issues.

Sorry this is now the NCAA25 thread please post accordingly :P

I have played a lot of madden over the years and this game in no way feels like madden to me, at all.

i agree. its faster. defense is harder. it sounds better. momentum and stadium toughness is a real thing. i think they did a great job
Kicking when that stadium thing is shaking is impossible. Lmao. I kicked one into the club section the other day.
Lmao. Glad it's not me. I kicked one into the student section in the corner of the end zone

Yeah, that's the general consensus online. Gonna have to be changed.

So I was supposed to recruit before I advanced oops

Might need to restart. You guys making custom coaches or just using the ones that are already on the team?

Also I have a pretty sweet setup. Texas A&M scores a TD and when the cannon goes off in my rear surround and subs I legit thought someone fell upstairs :lmao: was not prepared

but anyways, I had come into this topic to talk about something else but I just wanted to comment on the shaking thing.

Both in Madden and previous college football games my favorite part about them has been the offseason. I love the team building. I mean, playing the game can be fun, sure but offseason is the best part IMO. In college, I loved recruiting my team. I think in 2014 it was an all season thing.

One thing that I slightly disliked though, maybe more in madden than college, is the lack of injuries. Of course, I don't want real life injuries but in a video game it's just more realalistic and and extra challenge. They sorta blow in college since you can't replace a long injury, you already have to have the depth on your team but in Madden you can just go to the FA pool and sign a guy off the street. I remember in an older college game they had some random weekly thingamabob where you had to make decisions-like a players GPA would be low or maybe they got in some sort of trouble. I think alot of people disliked it since it was random but it felt very collegey to me.

I'm looking forward to playing it when it's not $70 but in the meantime I might dust off NCAA14
