Anyone get max Payne yet?
Not out until next week, I believe. 5/22.
Out this past Tuesday for PS3 and X360. 5/29 for the PC.
Rented it from Redbox last night. For background, I was a huge fan of the first game, liked but didn't love the second. I rented because I wasn't sure how I'd like this as I'm usually not a big fan of Rockstar games. This one may require another rental from me, but I have to say I was underwhelmed. Like any Rockstar game, I found the shooting mechanics to be just a little...off. (I was using the Free Aim option. You can also opt for Soft Lock and Hard Lock which pull your reticle toward targets a bit.) I also had issues with the camera. Not the control of it, but if you've seen the trailers, you've seen how it gets oversaturated and blurry, with double images at times. It does that a LOT during the game and it got to be very distracting to me. The story looks like it'll be enjoyable, assuming you're into noir fiction.I will rent this one again and try using one of the Lock ons. I didn't want to do it at first because it seems a lot of the achievements require you to be in Free Aim.

Working my way through NG+ in Arkham City. I found this to be hard as hell at first, but it's gotten easier as I've gone along. I breezed through my first playthrough on Normal, relying on countering to get through fights. That doesn't work very well in NG+, so I've had to re-learn how to fight using a whole bunch of dodging instead. Also, I'm really not liking the boss fights in this game. They're not that hard, just uninspired and repititious (e.g. kill Grundy, then kill him again -- kill Ra's, then kill him again).

Anybody know anything about this thing?

Retron 3

It plays NES, SNES and Genesis all on one system with an AV jack. Even S video for SNES and Genesis. Allows you to use all the controllers from each system and has wireless controllers that come with.

From the review videos, the quality looks almost identical. I can't see a down side to this.

I have read that they aren't as good as the original consoles but get the job done. The genesis has minor sound differences and the wireless controllers don't work worth ####. This is what I have gathered from researching from being interested, bt I have never played tested it. I almost pulled the trigger on it a week ago.

I have all the systems but all are on RF adapters and its a pain to have all those plugs hooked up. Im wondering if its noticeable because that thing certainly saves space for $50.

Max Payne 3 is great game!!! Multi-player is deep as you level up weapons, characters, bursts (perks) and of course yourself. No, not a RPG, but the options of more you use a weapon/character/burst the more you unlock on it is satisfying in many ways. Gang Wars is a team objective type game with a story. Another great option is Crews, which is like posse'ing up with buddies or others. Once you belong to a Crew (crosses over to other Rockstar games) your character wears their logo (you can make yourself) on their chest/shirt. Crews then feud with other crews and stats are kept. The controls are similar to Red Dead, so not to foreign if you played that. The campaign (single player) is heavy, basically you against the entire country of Brazil! It can be difficult for some, as in that like most Max Payne games cover is not really an option...you have to be aggressive and shootdodge and bullettime your way through the hoards of guys. Of course, it is in a noir style, so if that is not your cup of tea...might not jive too well. If you like shooters, there is PLENTY to like about this one because you barely stop shooting in the campaign.

If I had to be critical, there are two things that someone could hold against this game. 1) The visuals of being under the influence. Since Max is always drinking n drunk, they do this doubling/tripling effect in different flashy colors that can get under your skin a bit. 2) The campaign has a lot of cut scenes, which are used during loading cycles for the next mission, but create times of just watching and story telling.

Again, those are picky things and I felt that I should list something critical to a degree for you or anyone. Anyone playing or just getting it, I suggest changing the options for aiming/movement (sensitivity) as the default is pretty low and makes you feel clunky. Up it and you are in like flynn!!!

My suggestion is GET IT, if you like shooters and or online multi-player games. Hope this helps for anyone on the fence or just curious...

I am guessing that is the crew you belong to? So far, I'm only in one crew...IDIOTS R Us. We are PS3'ers, as I don't touch that other thing! Unfortunately, I just never caught on to PC.

I recommend continuing to play the campaign, as the multi-player is so deep and addictive since you level up multiple things. As much as I have also been loving the campaign, I am now having a HARD time getting back to it because of the MP. This also allows you to hopefully bypass a few minor issues that they are working through, which seems to be the case with all new game multi-player modes these days. Sheeesh!

I saw a video in EB showing of Max Payne 3's physics with regards to the bullet hit detection and was blown away. did this make it to the final version of the game? It takes rag doll physics to a whole new level.

It is so much fun on the final kill, using the slow motion button and then emptying the rest of your clip into a guy

I'm sure I will eventually get MP3 since I was a huge fan of MP and MP2 for action and storyline. Heck, I even watched that crappy movie just because I love me some Max. I will wait for it to drop to $20 or so.

YES, yes, and yes!!! It is impressive and gives a much different feel opposed to a I can shoot anywhere from the same spot. Even in multi-player, nothing like laying on the ground and your guy twisting to to shoot in an other direction. Real cool!!!

Since you are a fan, you might appreciate this then. Last night while playing multi-player, a RockStar developer (from the San Diego studio) came into the game and played with us. Answered questions, took suggestions, talked some smack, and played well. You won't get that later, when it drops to $20!

I'm glad I'm not the only one (semi) old school gaming here. I'm currently working on Arkham Assylum with my boys.

Anyone pick up Dragon's Dogma? Didn't know much about the game until recently but it looks like a pretty cool RPG.

This is the first new XCom game that actually looks like they captured the whole aspect that made the original so good. All the developers were huge fans of the first one so they understand the need to placate the hardcore fan but also want to pout their own touch on it. Firaxis brought us Civ 4 among other things, so I have high hopes they can pull this off. I still play the original xcom every 6 months or so because its that awesome. An update of this magnitude is well overdue for one of the best PC games ever made.

Need Video Game Advice/Recommendation -

A group of my friends and I want to get a multiplayer game we can play together, ala. Diablo III -- only we're cheap so Diablo's $60 price is a bit much.

Any recommendations on something similar that's a year or two old?

The first Torchlight is single player only. The upcoming sequel will include multiplayer. But a similar game with multiplayer is Magicka. Madcow can testify to its awesomeness.

Thanks. :thumbup:ETA: ooof, no multiplayer.
If you and your friends are on PC, you can pre-order Torchlight 2 on Steam and get a 4-pack for $60. So for less than the price of Diablo III, you can get Torchlight 2 for you and your friends. Magicka also has a 4-pack for $30, if you wanna try that too.

The Torchlight preorder comes with the original for free as well. And yes, Magicka is fun but don't go in expecting it to be a serious loot and story game. It is all about the combos and what fun combinations you form with the elements. That and the M60. :excited:

There's a new Humble Bundle available. This one includes Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Bastion, Limbo, Psychonauts, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. These are all games that you should play if you haven't already. Pay what you want, pay the average to get them all.

Dragon's Dogma is the best action RPG I've ever played. But deeper.
It is pretty good but I fear this and Witcher 2 are great RPG's which are going to suffer because of Skyrim.
Skyrim already won whatever awards it was going to win, right? Different calendar year now. Unless you meant sales-wise...and even then, long time between releases.I will say one thing--I'm having more fun with this game than I ever did with Skyrim. And I'm a huge Bethesda fan-boy. I played the hell out of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. But there's something about this game. I'm having more fun with it than any of those, and MUCH more fun than I had with Kingdoms of Amalur recently. Same with Witcher 2. Couldn't get into it the same way. The gameplay is tops for an action-RPG. The story is secondary for me when the game is this fun, because I can imagine my own adventures in a game that makes every single quest, every single walk out of Gran Soren in the morning, feel like an epic quest that I've had to prepare extensively for by upgrading gear and skills, changing my Pawn loadout, my skill loadout, etc. Or else you die. A lot.Its incredibly fun.

We can hope that Dragon's Dogma 2 has it, assuming there's a sequel. Despite a pretty lame marketing campaign and an even lamer name, this game is selling pretty well because gamers are loving it for the most part, and its spreading via word-of-mouth.

Okay Moobin, I haven't payed attention to gaming in the past 4+ months. I played Gears maybe twice two months back and haven't had time since, but now school and vacation are over and moving is almost done. I just hooked up the two xbox's and a snes and plan on firing up the gears tonight for the first time in forever it seems. Can you please give me the low down on what good RPG's have come out and what you think I may like since I know you have a grasp on my game tastes well enough. I am just stating to look into the WItcher 2 and now I see this Dragon's Dogma that sounds intriguing. My girlfriend is interested in Kingdoms of Armalur and see likes more action RPG ala Fable more than the Fallout/ES games and I was wondering how that game plays. Side note on the snes I just hooked up. I haven't had a chance to play it because apparently my GF is a Super Mario World pro and is about 75% through a flawless speed run. &
