Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Just a heads up with all these Ubisoft games in the sale, buyer beware. The DRM is terrible and must maintain a connection even in single player. A lot of very bad reviews in the different game forums. If a game has a forum be sure to check it out for major issues.
I love Ubisoft, but yes, their PC DRM is horrible. Although, I own most of the Assassin's Creed series on PC, I find it better to buy their games on console. You can hack it so you don't have to use their DRM, but it's sad that you basically have to do the equivalent of pirating a game that you legally purchased to get it working.
So does that mean you can't play Ubisoft in offline mode? Or that it simply doesn't allow you to update your progress across different machines with a single account?
My internet is usually working when I play, so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it works in offline mode. I've seen many cracks, when searching about it, to make it work. I can try when I get home to be sure.
I'm home now and I just read that Ubisoft's uPlay is down, so this is a perfect time to test DRM. Apparently, I can play the first Assassin's Creed, but Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood can't resolve my uPlay account info and won't let me into the game. I imagine I'd get the same result playing in offline mode. (The first game didn't use the current DRM.)edit: It appears that if you into uPlay's settings that there is an option for "offline mode" that will require you to successfully log into uPlay once for it to work. Perhaps this is the solution. I'll try it when the servers are up again. Some of these games haven't been played since I recently reformatted.edit 2 (because I don't like posting three times in a row): Now that uPlay's servers are working, I can confirm that once you log into uPlay once, you can log in offline mode and it will work. Of course, games with an online component may not work this way.

Hitman was talked about earlier on this page. The Hitman collection is on sale on Steam today for $6.24. It includes Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman: Blood Money. You can buy each individual game separately for $2.49 a piece.

The other good deals for today is Trine 2 for $2.49 and Saint Row: The Third for $12.49. I also want The Walking Dead, but it's only 40% off ($14.99) and I think I'll wait it out for the Winter Sale when each episode will be available with a possible lower price offering.

Bought it at Christmas but just started putting time into it - Metro is worth playing if you are into the Half Life FPS story heavy gameplay. I've enjoyed it.
:lmao:It's on today's list. Worth $5 for FPS fans.

AOE 3 on todays deals doesnt list windows 7 does anyone run it on steam using windows 7? It looks like XP is the only OS supported.

As for any developers complaining about the Steam model. Steam doesn't mean I wait to buy titles, I would have bought any way. It means I buy titles I never would have thought about buying. Plus, if I really love anything, I'm now more likely to buy a new version of the game at a higher price when it launches. If they really think this type of thing costs them money, they have their heads up their asses.

Ah, that makes it sound like other steam games. You have to play once online but after that first online game you are able to play in offline mode. That's a good to go for me. Thanks for the explanation, I really do appreciate the clarification. If that's the extent of the DRM I can easily live with it.

What's the chance that Batman: Arkham City goes on sale for less than the current 33% off (or did I already miss it?)
Sunday, during a flash sale, the Arkham collection (with Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Gotham Impostors, plus their DLC) was on sale for $24.99, and Arkham City was like $11 during that deal. My guess is that it will be on the full day sale before it's done. By the way, I got the collection and I really like Gotham Impostors. I wasn't sure if I would.

From over @ anandtech forums...saved me 3.3G of space:

Guys, I just found this awesome program (thanks to someone in the Cheapassgamer forums) that will give you back a fair bit of space in your HD. I'm sure like me many of you have a HD dedicated to just Steam and probably have a lot of games installed, well this program goes through and deletes all the redundent stuff Steam downloads for each game you download (you know like those VC Redist, DirectX, etc installers)

I did it on my 1TB drive that is nearly full of Steam games and it cleared up 13.5GB

Here is the page, easy to use

http://steamcleaner.tikione.fr/en/

Only one tip, when you find your Steam directory just select the Steam folder and don't select the steamapps folder (the program wont see it otherwise for some reason)

Looks like it will be 66% off in just under two hours. http://store.steampowered.com/

My general rule of thumb is to not spend more than $10 unless I'm pretty familiar with the title and if I want it or not. That said, Strongold 3 is a bit above that but looks intriguing. Anyone famliar with it?

On a related veing, it's very annoying that sometimes Steam displays the Meta Score and sometimes it's just not there.

Any suggestions here? Bought walking dead yesterday, wasn't the biggest sale, but was already looking to buy it.

For today I'm looking at:

Age of Empires III $9.99 - Enjoyed two, was pretty well rated, so may provide a couple hours of entertainment.

Company of Heroes $2.50 - Never heard of it, but rated really highly on IGN, and pretty much free, so i figure why not.

Call of Duty Black Ops $19.99 - I haven't played any of the new call of duty games, they just don't go down in price much. Figure this is my chance to give one of the newer ones a try.

Yeah - I think that Steam doesn't show the meta critic rating when it's bad.

If you're a fan of Age of Empires, you'll love Company of Heroes.

Finally finished up AC: Revelations last night. Got a handful of single-player options awaiting me now...

AC 1 - started, maybe 5% done, I have beaten AC2, AC:B, and AC:R now, kinda feel like I need to beat AC1 to round it out

Bulletstorm - maybe 20% through...I don't really have any desire to play this other than that I've already started it and don't like to leave games unfinished

Saints Row 3 - not yet started

Fallout 3 - not yet started, I got this randomly for like $7 one time, though I don't really have a big desire to play it.

I bought COH and AOE and decided to skip the black ops after reading more reviews that weren't that great. i'm mainly a 1 player gamer, so don't care much about it's great online stuff. This is my first year trying the steam sale, and unfortunatly, i'm hooked... god knows how many more games i'm going to have in the next 4 days...

Ooof - they really got me today. Thief Collection, Shadows of Chernobyl bundle and Dead Space pack. If I quit my job and ignored my wife and kids, I think it would take me somewhere around 1 year of non-stop gameplay to play through my Steam hoard.

I've never played one of the Total War series but seeing the pack of them on there for $13, I think i may be in, everyone here seems to speak pretty highly of those. Darn this steam sale I may not be far behind you. Luckily no wife and kids, so i'd just be killing my social life.

Good games, but HUGE time-sinks.

I'm trying to say no... Already have too much sitting at home right now.

I always wanted to play them but either didn't have a pc or felt like spending $$ for a game I may or may not devote too. But for the price of lunch ughhh

Back in town. Finally. Just cleaning up at the office with all of the backlog, came straight from the airport. Now to home and a nap. :(

Has anyone seen any big deals on either Kingdoms of Amalur or the Witcher 2:Enhanced? Those are the two big games i'm really looking for. Hope i haven't missed a flash deal on either of these.

I've seen The Witcher 2 listed once. Maybe it was a flash sale. I don't remember the price. And it was in the running yesterday during the vote that Skyrim won for community sale.

:sadbanana: Darn, hopefully it comes back. Otherwise it's on an ok sale for $24 dollars throughout the summer sale, and that's probably the best price I've seen on it. So either way there is a good chance I get it, this is one of the games I've really wanted, and besides a steam sale, i doubt it gets below $19 for a year or so.

Bought 2 PC games on steam that should run on my system no problem, and there is some major graphics problem with both and they wont run. Every once in a while I'm reminded why I switched to console gaming.

Anyone play the DayZ mod for ARMA II? It's been getting fairly popular lately and looks interesting, even if it is buggy w/ bad graphics.

Since building my gaming rig last year, I haven't run into a single issue running any game I've come across.

Yes. PC games are far better when it comes to mods and customization. They can also be the most infuriating hair pulling disaster if everything doesn't go just right. I literally just finished re-installing my entire OS. It's been about a year overdue but I'm hoping this helps with a few issues I've been having, most notably, a mod that allows me to play AOE II in any resolution I want.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD on XBLA. I'm hooked again.
Been playing. My thoughts are mixed. Considering I own Pro Skater 2X for XBox (and it's backwards compatible), I'm not sure it was worth the $15 when the HD game is missing many features of that game. But the game is still very good and I'll enjoy it, at least for playing through to collect everything and every achievement. I wanna try the big head multiplayer mode. It sounds interesting.

Hitman collection and Thief collection both for 6.74 each. Hitman I've played and loved and Thief was of a similar vein but I never played it. I'm excited. :excited:

Looking hard at Gratuitous Tank Battles today. I have enjoyed GSB, and this one is intriguing.

Witcher 2 on sale today. It was around $16 I think.
