It was definitely a bad reveal. I think Microsoft can rebound during E3, but it's gonna take some really awesome exclusives. And they need to stop beating around the bush and just come clean on the details. The confusion was either on purpose or terrible communication on their part. But Microsoft has been blaming the press, saying that it's their fault for reporting incorrect info.

The XB1 will be far from DOA. Way too much momentum. And it will have good software coming for it and that is really the big determinant on the success of the system.

What first person perspective games are not shooters of some sort? Skyrim is a shooter on most levels.

Skyrim is not a shooter by anybody's standard. You spend maybe one tenth of one percent of your play time in combat. The rest is exploring, talking to people, crafting iron daggers, etc.

I get that it's an adventure/role play game and sure you can go through the game without fighting much but for most people the primary dynamic is going places and fighting things (ranged and melee) from a first person perspective. Both of which are effectively the same game play as something like Borderlands 2 (no one is telling me that is not a shooter even though you level your character and talk to people) or CoD. You don't need to call it a FPS, and I agree that it isn't from a large perspective, but if you are going to recommend Skyrim I think the most important descriptive you can use would be to tell someone that it is a first person game. If you just tell me it's a role playing game then I have no idea what the actual game play will be like, is it third person Mass Effect style, turn based XCOM style, first person Borderlands 2 style?

You can also walk around in 3rd person... its an open world action rpg.

I mentioned that in a previous post. My only point is that if you are going to describe a game to me "action rpg" leaves out some key info "action rpg with first and third person world interaction/game play" lets me know that I am getting Skyrim and not XCOM.

Xcom is a turn based strategy with micromanagement elements.

I agree and "turn based" is an ideal description. But you also level characters granting them unique skill trees and there is a significant action element to it. Calling it an action RPG would not be incorrect but using the term "turn based" is the descriptive that tells you what the game is truly about.

I haven't played a game like this extensively and have never played an MMO. I have Torchlight II, looks like the game play is similar, if I enjoy TLII I may jump in to Neverwinter.

I can absolutely see the XB1 turning it around at E3. First, like you said, they show a bunch of exclusives. Not Kinect games, and not just another Forza or Gears, but new IPs. And not Kinect games. Second, again like you said, they clarify what's going on with DRM and used games. The PR disaster from the reveal wouldn't have been quite so bad if they hadn't offered up so many slimy, lawyer-like answers to very basic questions.

Here's the key thing though. If Sony announces a bunch of DRM and used-game-blocking features like the XB1, then that immediately takes a lot of heat off MSFT. And Sony will absolutely get pressed on this issue at E3 for good reason. If Sony and Microsoft are hand-in-hand on this issue, then they'll both take lots of bad press, but it's probably something like a wash in terms of positioning for the next round of console wars, but if Sony backs off their rumored DRM plans, then Microsoft might as well cancel production unless they have really dug-in developer support.

I'm sure we'll also hear an official statement from Sony regarding this issue. I don't like it no matter who is doing it. If both the X1 and PS4 have this disability, Nintendo may have a late surge from those gamers who are specifically affected by the announcement. Currently, the Wii U has sold poorly and is looking at a rumored price drop soon. The Wii U is most affected by not having the amount of quality games that were promised from Nintendo and many games that were announced as launch titles are still in delay. EA has also announced that they do not have any titles in development for the Wii U (however I did read this week from someone at Dice that stated that they are working on Battlefield 4 for the Wii U), including Fifa '14 and Madden '14, which are the bigger EA Sports titles.

The XB1 will be far from DOA. Way too much momentum. And it will have good software coming for it and that is really the big determinant on the success of the system.

It wouldn't take much, it really comes down to how greedy or smart Sony wants to be. The X1 has inferior hardware for gaming (not sure about other "entertainment" stuff) and the price point is likely to be competitive with Sony but still higher.

On another note my wife was cranking out the kids but man the gluttony thing was packing on the pounds. And really the only thing I didn't like about playing that character is that he was already married and she didn't really have any significant talents. When the game starts she's like 14 and her stats stay crappy.

Daughter and I finished up Lego Lord of the Rings (100% and Platinum Trophy, around 53 hours to get there).

We have both played a ton of Lego games and we both agreed this was the best one so far.

Bit of a gaming drought now that I finished Metro Last Light. It was good, but it's getting ebay'd. In the end, it was just a bit too much "fight jumping around monsters", and not quite enough "sneak and kill human enemies".

I am back to Skyrim - started a Mage / Cleric character I played in DnD years ago. Having him major in destruction / conjuration / restoration - that's it. No armor, and just a Mace as a last-resort melee weapon. No sneaking save for the base skill. This is a far cry from my bow / dual-swords / sneaky sniper no-magic dark elf that prettymuch one-shotted everything. Been great fun so far (about level six).

That really depends. Some of the fun for some of us is in the tinkering and upgrading. I cannot imagine that the Steambox will support the biggest, baddest cards, either. They would be too big. Interesting either way. If they did, I would probably have one just to have a system without the kids' and wife's crap on it.

Wow, COMPLETELY disagree there, the only thing I HATE about PC gaming is needing to tweek and tinker. I think with me it's partially that I design computers for a living, so i just absoutely hate having to debug issues like that in my free time also.

Just ran into an issue yesterday when I started my replay of ME2. Game would load, run through the intro mission, and then about 30 seconds to a minute after I got real control the PC would reboot... Spent hours messing with it, finally got running by downgrading my resolution to 720, best guess is i have a power supply issue, because i'm pretty sure i ran it at 1080 on my first playthrough, but that was an afternoon wasted...

I was thinking about having her offed once I got a son. But she is a Hungarian Princess. The possibility of getting caught never dropped below 50% so it seemed like a bad bet. Hungary was already trying to get my lands with a ginned up claim. I offed their guy who was trying. I was kind of hoping for a natural death in childbirth. But no such luck. I didn't even get a son until she dropped literally a half dozen daughters and she was still going.

Sorry -- I didn't mean that to be disparaging. I sprung for TR because of all the great reviews it's gotten in this thread. I just meant that I'll barely have time for one playthrough before I put this one temporarily aside for TLOU, which is something I rarely do. Usually I more or less completely finish a game before moving on to the next one.

Thats what I was debating. I probably wouldn't play it now but that's quite a deal, $20 for everything.

I started on my second try with a Dukedom in Wales. About 80 years in I managed to get enough together to declare myself king. (Wiped out my piety and gold, but well worth it).

It's good to be the king.

I went with a Dukedom in the Croatia/Hungary area. I had a lot of heirs available and I was doing well building up my tax base. I had ginned up some claims and taken a couple of duchys. But I just felt that there was so much I could have done better in the beginning that I didn't save it.

On another note my wife was cranking out the kids but man the gluttony thing was packing on the pounds. And really the only thing I didn't like about playing that character is that he was already married and she didn't really have any significant talents. When the game starts she's like 14 and her stats stay crappy.

Can always buy a divorce from the Pope with some piety or have her offed.

I was thinking about having her offed once I got a son. But she is a Hungarian Princess. The possibility of getting caught never dropped below 50% so it seemed like a bad bet. Hungary was already trying to get my lands with a ginned up claim. I offed their guy who was trying. I was kind of hoping for a natural death in childbirth. But no such luck. I didn't even get a son until she dropped literally a half dozen daughters and she was still going.

Daughters are better anyway.

Managed to marry my first daughter away to be the Kaiserin of the HRE.

Nicely done.

I'm glad you made a comment on this because with all the praise Bioshock was getting I was wondering if the OP was using the > correctly. Apparently he was. Good to know.

To be fair, I probably would have used less >>, but I am definitely enjoying Tomb Raider more than I did Infinite...and I really liked Infinite a lot.

Tomb Raider was a lot more fun than B:I.

Back in to ME3 (kept my ### up to 1:30am last night) and am loving it. Gameplay is fantastic. I just finished my 2nd trip to the Citadel, and I was loathing running around the place

until I got there and Cerberus attacked and it made it so much more fun to knock them out then do the running around assignments. I like building my army, this is good stuff and a nice twist from ME1-2

I'm enjoying not having to drive the Mako or spend hours "scanning" planets. I'm also happy that hte ####### elevator on the Normandy doesn't take 4 minutes each time I switch floors (finger to ME2). Story just keeps getting better.
