Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (11 Viewers)

Oooooh, ESO will be on consoles...

eta - Is this going to be a $15 a month type thing?

eta2 - yeah looks like $15 a month
New gens only. Normally this would push me to PS4, but I already shifted that money to something else (half sleeve tattoo). Maybe my summer will be full sunshine after all.
Not a PC gamer?
My PC is aging too. I'm standing on that tech cliff where everything kinda still works, but is about fall off into obsolete hell.

ETA: sorry for the tortured metaphor. It sounded so much better in my head. :topcat:

Has anyone played this yet?
I'm in the closed beta.

Ive done 3 weekend sessions. Awaiting the next one. I have 4 or 5 friends who are guildmates in other games who are playing beta (for a weekend or two).

Surprisingly enough every single one of them plans on playing at this point. Its nice that TESO has its own take on the MMO structure.
I know there's an NDA and all but can you comment on how far you can get playing solo? I hate MMOs that rope you into lengthy multiplayer dungeons as part of the main quest/story.

I dont care about NDA, lol. Im far more pro-FBGs then I am any MMO.

Ok so a few questions:

#1 - Solo play?

#2 - How WoW like is it?

#3 - What are quests like?

#4 - What stands out to you?

The main story that goes all the way to 50.... is all solo. Now that wont get you to 50 alone, but I dont think you have to group until the end.

There will be dungeons along the way that will have quests leading into them, and they will require 4 players typically.

But the entire game will be on 1 MEGASERVER so there should always be people to team up with for short stints.

If you have 1 or 2 million people playing, and 3 sides... that means your team is gonna have 500k people on your server and on your team/alliance.

Where as almost every other game was capped around 25k people at most at given time and usually less then 10k.

Ive gotten to 19 in a beta weekend, but it is getting much slower ea level.

I solo the whole way except for a couple dungeon stints.

Quest are like most mmos but nothing glowing !!! in world. Though some non obtrusive white arrows are about. Usually, only if you open yourmap.

But im not a big "smell the flower" and read the details player -- I'm an achiever. So admiteedly miss stuff.

I didnt feel like I was playing WOW at all. Except for being an mmo and having a chatbox.

Stands out.... TESO is its own game. Or Elder Scrolls is its own game with its own take on how things should be.

Ive played nearly every mmo since '97 and Ultima Online.

Not since Asherons Call have I had this much character creation freedom.

I wanna be a Nord (Viking).... Nightblade (theif archtype)... weiliding a sword and shield with a secondary choice of my fire staff on my back... wearing platemail.

I can do it.

Now its up to me to find the synergy of it all. And it just might be deadly.

PvP and your character control is not like too many others, though Guild Wars 2 seems a bit similar.

You must manage your resources (just like in Elder Scrolls) and it is NOT about rotation or button spamming.

Interface is wonderfully minimalist. With terrific graphics. Though the world is a bit "flat" compared to the single player elder scroll games.

Wow. That's hella encouraging.

I got the Banner Saga over the weekend. Can't stop playing it. It's an adventure + tbs game set in a Norse/Viking like environment. It tries to give the illusion of choice, but I've found the overarching game thread to be pretty linear. It's short (probably one full play through in 10 to 20 hours), and I found myself wanting much more. I like the game play, simple enough but with enough nuance to keep it interesting for a while. The artwork and soundtrack are fantastic, it's like playing through a Ralph Bakshi animated film.
The bolded is almost exactly what I thought the first time I saw the artwork for this on KS, and I intend to play the hell out of it. Hopefully it delivers.
I think it does if you go into it with that mind set. They show this gigantic map, but it's not an open world type of game, so you're left to wonder about much of it for now. Like I said I was so engrossed that I was disappointed that it was too short. They're trying to put out the next installment but the jerk offs who own Candy Crush have given them a cease and desist (or something like that) because they use the word Saga in the name of their game - which somehow the Candy Crush people think they have a trademark on.

You sold me

Here have fun tooling around with this skill list. Click + to expand. The listing isnt perfect, but good enough.

I will make this very easy for those who care to have fun with it. Even people in beta still struggle. How ESO works....

You get 150 health, 100 magika and 100 stamina.

Then every level you get 20 of each and an extra 10 (20 if health) to put anywhere you want. (AT 50 you will 1130/1080/1080 + 490 to spend as you want)

All Class Skills take Magica. All Weapon Skill take Stamina. Though Staff Skills take Magica.

Many skills are Passive and always in effect, no matter how many you have unless they have a prerequisite (like wearing cloth armor or holding a shield).

A couple skill lines are special and give you different skills (like being in the Hunters guild, or literally being a werewolf, or some others unseen as of yet.

You have Spell Power and Attack Power, these are based on you MAX stamina or magika. They effect spells or weapon strikes accordingly.

You can obtain ANY skill in the game except... you cannot get ability/skills that are of a different race (doesnt mean much) or a different class.

Every time you level you get 1 skill point. In each of the zones you can collect 3 skyshards and earn another skill point. Some quests or special stuff may award a few also later in the game.

Right now the max of the normal game is considered to be about 60-70 skill points.

But you will have the ability to 50+ and 50++ content.... when you reach level 50 you may quest through all of the other zones for the other alliances and pick skyshards there. But be warned, all of that content will be higher in level for you and you alone (though maybe other of your original alliance might be able to team up with you). So while the quest may be newbie quests normally, when you bring your max character it will be accordingly harder.

Any skill and any "morph" of a skill cost 1 skill point.

Typically the 5 (or so) skills come in order based upon your level.

They are around .... level 1, level 5, level 20, level 30, level 40.

Again.... All Class Skills take Magica. All Weapon Skill take Stamina. Though Staff Skills take Magica.

You also have keyboard/mouse skills....

You may hold down your right mouse button to block almost any weapon strike or projectile (arrow/spell).

This ability takes stamina. Shields work better then anything else. (like a 35% reduction or 65% with shield, plus avoid nasty effects like stun/knockdown)

You may double push your move keys (a/s/d) to do a dodge roll. Which quickly gets you out of harms way.

This ability takes stamina.

Anytime you are CC'd (crowd controlled) you may break that buy clicking both left and right mouse button.

This ability takes a LOT of stamina 40+% of your stamina bar currently.

Left clicking will cause you to use a base default "light" weapon attack. Staffs will do fire, lightning, frost damage (Destruction Staff) or holy damage (Restoration Staff).

If you hold down the left muse for a 2 count (or so) and release you will do a "heavy" attack and this will take a bit of Stamina. Or magika if a staff.

You can only 1 SKILL BAR ACTIVE. And thats based upon whatver weapon you have equipped. So only 5 skills to use.

But you may have a 2nd weapon "at the ready" and if you swap to it.... it will have 5 different slots on a different skill bar.

You may switch these two weapons mid combat. Its almost instant. Each skill bar also has a spot for 1 Ultimate ability.

Summons and toggle on/off effects are lost if you switched to a skill bar without that ability. But any normal buff or spell effect remains until its normal duration is completed.

Oh yeah - IN COMBAT you regen a % of your attributes every 2 seconds.

5.5% max stamina.

2.4% max health

4.5% max magicka
:drive:

eta2 - yeah looks like $15 a month
For the first year only, then free to play.
after the first year, is their financial model micro transactions or pay flat price for game or both?

Thank you for all your helpful info on this. It looks awesome.
I think they will have small stuff to make money from like pets, in game vanity/prettyness stuff, race/name changes.

Oh yeah, apparently during the first year players will be able to trade their goods/service to other players and potentially get game time cards in return.

I am interested to see what the price of the game itself will be.

What other MMO's have been on consoles?

Looks to be around $60

So I have an Xbox1 and a good gaming laptop. Which do I purchase this for?

I would imagine it's just like any other game. Buy depending on:

- where you might have friends to play with

- which control scheme you might like better (mouse/keyboard vs. controller)

- which you enjoy playing games on more in general

If I get an XB1/PS4 by then that's what I'll probably play on just because I much more enjoy sitting in my recliner with a controller.

This ESO would likely spur me to get a next gen console, but I don't like the subscription based fees (I do understand why they are their though).

I can't find official word of the fee going away a year after release. Is that validated or just speculation?

one other small factor is the PC has a defined release date of April 4th, but no release date has emerged for the consoles, so they could come later which might affect his decision if he wants to play early in the release cycle.

Official reply: Can I use a gamepad?

The PC/Mac control scheme is optimized for keyboard and mouse, though any of a number of commercially available emulators will allow players to use a controller. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The Elder Scrolls Online will use their systems' respective controllers.

Yeah, I understand. I can sit at my PC and use a controller for any number of games.

But with my setup on a console I can sit in my recliner, play on my big screen TV, and run sound through my nice system.

I cant find that now either (not looking too hard) I had just stated what I had read and thought to be true.

But honestly I dont really care about the sub price myself. So maybe I'm mistaken. If I find it ill post.

If people are concerned how a pc's keyboard and mouse will be mapped affectively to a console controller, I think the fantastic job Blizzard did with bringing Diablo III to the consoles should give hope that ESO could be mapped just as well.

My buddy plays his PC through his TV and stereo. Its absurd. :P

Ive read in more than one place that they themselves are projecting that after a year the game will shed its subscription model. Which to me is just red flag #400, I hope ESO is a good game (id like to see another actual Elder Scrolls game in the future), but I caution anyone thinking of preordering this game to simply wait until release to see for yourself before buying.

Everything about this game looks disappointing.

The problem is your subpar battlestation. My computer desk is an old kitchen table, all of my monitors fit perfectly on it and my recliner fits comfortably between the wall and table with plenty of room to fully recline if necessary.

Everquest had a Ps2 version called Everquest Online Adventures.

Microsoft just announced a great trade-in offer for an XBox One - $100 for any 360 or PS3.

http://content.microsoftstore.com/en-us/offers/beachwoodplace#offer-trade-console
They'd have to give me an XBox One to get my 360 and all the DLC and XBLA games I have on it. It'll be a sad day when it dies and I cannot find another working model.
:goodposting:

We have two 360s acting as media centers. With the cloud I can play all my games on either xbox.

Anyone else here waiting for NCC to walk into this thread and yell at us about not warning him about Deathclaws?
FO3 was one of my first games playing after being out of gaming for a long time.

I still remember walking in a new direction to explore, seeing a deathclaw, pulling out my pistol and thinking "look how big and slow he is", less than a second later he covered like 50 yards and I was splat.

Whoops, wrong direction :)

Or walking north toward Vegas in F:NV. There are herds of those things around the quarry area. Don't go that way yet. Best head south toward Primm.

My first encounter with a death claw was at a distance. One randomly spawned when I was level 3 walking to the super market mission. It was in the parking lot and luckily didn't notice me. I just happened to see it waddling along and saw them name death claw. I figured I better not #### with that guy. Yea, good decision.

Happened to me as well on one of my later playthroughs but I saw it at a distance. I had to be at about the same level. I remember saving the game, stepping out on my porch for a cigarette, and hoping for the best. It was easier than I thought but just seeing it made me frightful from previous combats.

At least in New Vegas they did try to warn you, there are signs all over the place saying "Warning Deathclaws!" Or I forget what settlement it was on the road to the quarry but there were actual NPC guys with roadblocks that would tell you not to go that way.

Not like FO3 where I randomly stumbled upon the F Scott Key Campground and got my ### shredded. Another fun time was the very first time I encountered an Albino Radscorpion... Or the first time I bumped into a couple of Super Mutants long before the scripted encounter at the GNR Radio when it explains what those things are. Fun games, some wierd but great humor.

The "Gary! Gary! Gary!" Vault. Or the "Tranquilty Lane" mission.

I don't think I ran upon a Deathclaw in FO3 until I was level 12. I also had Fawkes with me and he could take anything out. Fawkes was way OP.

I don't think I found Fawkes until I was close to level fully leveled up, I skipped most iof the main storyline in favor of randomly exploring and doing lots of side quests.

I think if you have the Broken Steel addon it makes Dogmeat virtually invincible. Talk about OP. The Sniper guy in New Vegas was extremely powerful as well, he ruined combat because he'd snipe the head off everything before they ever got close enough to attack.

So far I haven't run up on any of those. I have killed a Super Mutant. The thing that I don't seem to be able to do anything with is Mirelurks right now. The only way I stopped the last one I ran into was with several hand grenades. I need better weapons.

For anyone who doesn't have it yet, the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3 is currently half price on Xbox Live ($7.49).
Well worth it.
What other dlcs are worth buying?
Omega for sure for 3. Adds another 3-4 hours of gameplay. From Ashes is ok. Most of it you can YouTube but if you want Javik on your team its the only way to get him. The mission to get him is forgettable.

Leviathan added a neat backstory to where the reapers came from but again the mission was so so.

For ME2, definitely get Shadow Broker and Kasumi. Great side missions and story lines in both.

While its not a challenging mission, Arrival is almost critical to the storyline. You're left confused at the beginning of ME3 without it. Brings the reaper threat to the forefront.

Overlord is the only one I haven't bought but I probably will. Another decent side mission.

I was really bummed with From Ashes and Javik. Feel like they really shoehorned it in at the last minute to sell a few extra copies. "look guys a living prothean!"

I would agree with this. And to top it off, I'm not sure I ever bothered to include him in a squad again after first getting him. I much preferred some combination of Garrus, Tali, Liara or EDI. Never bothered with Vega or Kaidan either.

Anyone else here waiting for NCC to walk into this thread and yell at us about not warning him about Deathclaws?
So far I haven't run up on any of those. I have killed a Super Mutant. The thing that I don't seem to be able to do anything with is Mirelurks right now. The only way I stopped the last one I ran into was with several hand grenades. I need better weapons.
If memory serves, I think the Mirelurks were pretty susceptible to mines since they just plod after you in a straight line.

Javik probably has the best one liners in the game. Worth a play through with him in your squad.

Yeah I just started getting some mines and I was thinking they might be a nice way to go. Someone else told me they are also pretty flammable.
