Can someone explain to me exactly how Madden Ultimate Team works and what the point of it is? I started one last night because it was an option and I got a bunch of crap players just given to me (no choice of who to put on the team) and then it looks like you don't actually play games but simulations? I don't want to play online vs people because every time i'm winning (which is rare), people leave the game.

This was also the first time I had ever tried "MUT" and it's a mess. Did you just skip through all the little tutorial/messages? I was able to get the just of it from those.
Basically, you get cards that make up your team. There's lots of solo challenges (both in volume and type) that you play for rewards. Rewards are usually coins and/or card packs. This is how you get better cards and thus a better team. You can also take you team online to play other people.

I've drifted back to Overwatch. I really wanted to reinstall R6: Seige but the attention commitment is too high.
Overwatch is nice because everyone is forced to play different game types/modes and the different character types allow me to play different styles.

Played through Journey. It wasn't that great. My partner at the end also ####ed off on me. It's worth playing through because it's short (maybe 2 hours) and free on PS4 right now. It's an interesting little experience but wouldn't recommend that anyone buys it.

The Bioshock Collection is out today. I think I'm going to wait to buy this. I played Infinite but these seem like perfect games to have in your back pocket for when I want a more story based game.

Its a scam to lure you into spending money to upgrade your team. Its fun until you realize you're never going to compete without buying card packs.
Its even more insulting in that the legendary players are licensed to be in the game but only for people who spend real money and even then, its only for a limited amount of time. So my favorite player is Emmitt Smith but I cant even use him.

The "contracts" aspect is where I left. There's a bloody message for every time any little thing happens but my red Aaron Donald card runs out of contracts and I don't even get a chance to sign him to a longer contract? Just a notification that he is gone. WTF?
I didn't know about the buying of those Legendary cards. That's BS. Even Free-To-Play games are moving away from this kind of crap. EA is putting it into their fully priced games. At this point there is no way they haven't made a billion dollars of net profit off of the Madden franchise. I hate that I gave them money.
I don't think that's 100% true. Yes, it's the most direct route, but you can grind the game for in-game currency that you can buy packs with. And even if the player is in a bundle you can only buy with cash. Someone will put that player on the auction for in-game currency eventually.
That's how it's been in past years at least. I could be different in '17. Last year they added that DraftMaster mode where you got to try out premium cards, which was cool.

DraftMaster is MUT cards. It's basically a way to get people who like franchise building but not MUT into MUT. What I was saying in my post was that before DM you couldn't try a MUT player before he was on your team. So don't get it twisted, they are the same mode. DM is like snorting heroid... you'll eventually go to the needle that is MUT

Bought Inside 2 weeks ago based largely on the excellent reviews I had come across. While I enjoyed it, it was REALLY short and I expected more for the $20 I paid. According to Steam, I finished the game in 5 hours and I'm not at all one to rush through games. The game itself is pretty much entirely a puzzle game, i.e. what do I need to do to get that locked door to open, or how do I distract that enemy so I can sneak by them. I thought the puzzles themselves were extremely well-designed overall - not too hard, but not too easy either. That said, I personally was expecting more.

Videogames have become like the movie industry with all of these reboots. Most of the games I'm wanting to play right now are games I've already beaten like Bioshock and Skyrim.

It holds up just fine. That being said, my initial impressions are so so.
If you haven't played the first one it's well worth the $60. If you have, I'd wait for a sale.
If you've already played them it's basically just a good graphics upgrade. I say good because it certainly hasn't blown me away or anything. Coming off of the Battlefield 1 open beta and recent videos I've watched of Star Wars: Battlefront, I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed.
I should say I'm only about an hour in but I can't imagine it's going to be substantially better but will update this if it does.

I didn't realize the Bioshock collection was out already. Not double-dipping for $60, but I'll definitely pick this up during the inevitable Christmas sale.
(Also, insert the obvious joke about how the $60 price point might be worth it if they removed Infinite).

Quietly the Dead Rising Remaster came out this week too. Also with a $60 tag. It has DR1, DR2 and the Off the Record version (which is what DR2 was going to be until they changed to Chuck Greene) .
I love this series but I'll wait a couple months. Don't like this trend of trying to recoup a full price on a collection. Halo collection had 4 games for $40 only 3 years ago.

While there is plenty of "gore" I don't think that this is just a shock value game. The atmosphere is unreal. This is not my type of game (Until Dawn is max limit for horror) but the slow, deliberate and mildly psychological feel seem to be much different than just shock affect gore.

Well there's that too. It's definitely an outlet for some of the more... ummm... creative writers and game makers to unleash the disturbed world in their minds. Not my cup of tea. If I can't kill it with a shotgun in 2 to 5 seconds, then I'm Out.

Which recent nhl game is best and can you still play online with them? For hockey, new rosters don't matter but I read one of the iterations was especially good (2014? 2015?).
Id just like to grab a cheap one and play along.
Scorn looks even better/worse than Agony. Very Geiger-esque with flesh and machine entwined. Only confirmed for PC, I think:

NMS: 230 hours in and I've pretty much done everything except reach the center of the universe. Starting over with a new character build (going sneaky stealth thief) and doing one of two things.
A - playing in a single solar system with no hyper jumps and seeing how far I can go in a single system.
or
B - reaching the center of the universe in my original ship. No upgrades to lasers, photon cannon, shields or the ship itself.
Thoughts?

I agree. It's also really nice to see them doing their best to make a good game. I think A LOT of times we just get companies looking to open another revenue stream rather than actually create something of value.

I got stuck away from home the other day with nothing going on and took the opportunity to try and compile a list of my personal top 100 games of all time... Started with just brainstorming all the games I remembered loving. That brought me up to about 75 games. Then I started looking at top game lists from various systems for games I forgot. That brought me up over 100, then I tried to order them.

Lists are always interesting. I would recommend putting it a spoiler tag though. Just for when people quote you it doesn't end up being a mile long page. It would also help to have the entire list (so 100-80 goes with 80-60 and so on).
As for your list, excite bike was probably the first game that I realized I could hate a video game. Outside of that, nice list so far.

This is cool. I'm not sure if I've played 100 console games, to say nothing of being able to rank so many. I'd have to dip into my Atari 2600 days as a kid most likely
Most of these I didn't play so I have no opinion about them. But list posts always generate discussion about what ranks where. I'll chime in, with what I hope is friendly commentary.Basically what I see here is Bioshock Infinite ranked ahead of Dead Space, Sonic, Dark Souls 3, and Mass Effect 3. I would put those as DS3 > Dead Space >>> ME3 >>>>>>>>>> Bioshock Infinite. Not sure where I would rank Sonic in there, but it would definitely be ahead of Infinite. My rationale is as follows:
Dark Souls 3 -- Absolutely nails the combat that this series has always been going for. Good variety and quality of bosses. Good world design, although not at DS1 standards. My GOTY so far.
Dead Space -- The closest thing to Resident Evil 4 since Resident Evil 4. Brilliant atmosphere, and an interesting take on combat. A little too action-y as you get further along. I could talk myself into ranking this ahead of Dark Souls 3. It's a superlatively good game.
Mass Effect 3 -- I enjoy ####ting on this game as much as anybody because of the ####-tier ending, but it's actually pretty awesome in terms of gameplay, especially with the difficulty cranked up. If you can somehow psychologically block out Marauder Shields and everything after, it's a darn fine game.
Bioshock Infinite -- Derivative. Boring gameplay. Trying too hard to recapture the lightning in a bottle that was rapture. Story that really didn't make any sense, kind of like Primer only not as well-told.
Sonic -- Not sure what to say here. I was unable to beat this game. But it sure was fun despite the nearly-impossible encounters at the end.

I'm very interested in seeing where you go with this, and I hope it sparks some discussion about some titles that we haven't talked about in a while. For instance, Dead Space used to be a game that everybody pretty much universally recommended, and I wonder if that still holds up, considering the passage of time.

Honestly there's a very thin margin between the #60 game and the #90 game. It jus becomes a preference thing or positive memories.
Dead Space was a great game and probably would be higher if not for the fact that I don't love horror games. Silent Hill is on the list but Silent Hill 2 which is universally loved is not - the sole reason was after I finished the first game, I didn't have it in me to play another one.
Edit: Also the main thing I can say about bioshock infinite was I loved the atmosphere. I thought they nailed it. Gameplay didn't do much new, but I really got sucked into the world.

I don't even know if ExciteBike was a beatable game. But it was so much fun for passing the time with a friend in my childhood. Haven't thought about those rainy days in years.

I don't believe it was, but I consider it more of a multiplayer game. We used to just make ridiculous tracks and race against each other's times.

Yeah, it was so sweet two playered. Or maybe I was 11. All I know is it was awesome with 3 guys in a room with the loser leaves the game rule in play. Epic races and fails for such a simple game.
I haven't played the game in 20 years. Looking forward to updates on the list.

The original Excitebike didn't have a two-player option. (Just Selection A - which is a single bike race against the clock, Selection B - race against 3 AI, and Design - which was the meat of the game, IMO.) But as bigmarc mentioned, you still got to race against friends in time trials, so it could be thought of as a competitive game.TheAristocrat said:

One game in particular on this part that I kept moving up the more I thought about it was Desert Strike. If you've never played any of these, they were sort of the first open world type game I can remember, but you're in a helicopter. You'd get a mission and fly to that portion of the map, but if you ventured into the wrong areas too soon you were in trouble. Desert Strike was my favorite but Jungle and Urban Strike were both very good as well.#80-#61
