Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Admittedly, it's a little irritating because it throws you into a difficult action sequence right off the bat.  I've beaten the game literally dozens of times, and I still generally can't get out of that very first house without taking damage.
Spent some quality time and starting to get the hang of it.  I'm up to chapter 1-3 and just got through the main village area for the second time. Not too far in, but controls are becoming less of a hindrance and I can tell why the game was so highly touted.  I've got the patented shoot, kick, knife combo down now too which helps.

Question. Am I supposed to sell the gems and whatnot?  Also which upgrades should I buy first?

If you keep the gems and find a bigger rare piece you can usually combine them to sell for more money. If you're not into searching all over though, just sell em for what you can get. Buy the upgrades. Been awhile since I've played so I can't remember what's best early on.

Portal 2 has incredible co-op.  Splitscreen too.  Plus you can find it for super cheap.  Plus it'll make you and your kid smarter and you don't have to kill mans to have fun (NTTAWWT).
Borderlands 2 was a fun co-op. My kid and I had fun.  You can also play diablo co-op.

Btw, I hate infinite warfare. It is so frustrating and its buggy as heck. The lag has been irritating lately. Plus I am not good. ME andromeda is arriving sunday and I can't wait.

Up next Max Payne 3
DO NOT PLAY MAX PAYNE 3 ON THE PC!!@!

There is a serious issue with the game auto-save feature.  Bottom line is the game freezes if, for example, you escape to the main menu for a few minutes (like, say, when you need to take a dump) it will freeze up where your only option is to taskmanager shut it down then when you go back you cannot continue in story mode.  It saves your progress in the chapter select menu up to the last chapter you completed but you must be prepared to go to that point and play all the way through because it will not save chapter progress from that point forward.

An unpatched issue like that is ####### ######## from a major studio (actually it's ####### ######## from any studio).

I am looking for a game I can play with my son who is 11.  He has Xbox One and Xbox 360.  I tried playing Call of Duty with him but I hate it.  He got Battlefield 1 with the system for Christmas but has not played it yet.  Yesterday in Sams Club I saw a new Halo game is out, is that a game I can play with him taking out enemies together?
Rocket League!

Finished Horizon: Zero Dawn. Just an excellent story. Got 100% of the collectibles, but not anywhere near all the journal entries and whatnot.

I also loved the post-final mission cinematics. Thought it was great with the hero getting closure. The after-credit cinematic, hated it. I guess they had to set up the sequel. But just felt it was forced, and really just didn't make any sense.

All-in-all, just an awesome, awesome game. Great story, great game play, new ideas, refreshing.

If you want them, check here.

Finished Horizon ZD and started Mass Effect over the weekend.

Horizon was great.  Maybe the most fun I've had in a single player game since the original Dragon Age.  Great story, great combat, really cool system to get you from newb to badass as you progress.  Just an all around incredible game.

Mass Effect has started off really well also.  I do see what some of the folks have been talking about with the facial animations when characters speak but honestly, it doesn't detract from the game at all to me.  Lots of unnecessary hate on this one.

How long did it take you?

I agree about the animations. There's been a few times that it was really bad for me. There's lots of technical issues that you'll find and will be extremely annoying as you play through. Too me it's a forgivable offense though because it's such a huge game. Both in map size and content. Somewhat like Elder Scrolls and Fallout get a pass.

The story issues are somewhat valid and a bit annoying because it seems to run a bit to close to the original trilogy. There's also a sense of urgency always there with the story which contradicts with the actual way the game and missions go since rarely are you forced into something.

Realllly enjoying RE4. I totally get the love I've heard over the years.

Im only 4-5 hours in - have Ashley now and took out the water monster and the giant, and just making my way through.

If you have ammo issues, buy the capacity upgrades. The system is set up to fully load you to capacity, so if say you have 3 bullets left and upgrade the capacity to 12, you'll get an extra 9 bullets for free. Also is a nice trick if you just haven't reloaded the gun in a while.

beat lord of shadow 2.  not sure why all the hate for it.  the ending was lame but the game was better than average. worth a play through for sure

Hmmm, not sure. I'll have to fire it up again and see if it says. Three weeks of real time. And I played pretty heavy on weekends because I was hooked. But most weekdays, it was only like an hour.

So, no one had save issues with Max Payne 3 on PC, or did no one else play it?

I'm really bummed because I was enjoying the noir aspect of MP's story, particularly his narration. Game play was above average too. Rockstar support hasn't been too helpful either, considering it's a big game for them and this is apparently a known issue.

Been playing Just Cause 2 (I think it's 2) and it's fun in a GTA-drive/fly/boat/parachute/-around-and-blow-the-ever-loving-####-out-of-everything way. And thankfully it doesn't even try to take itself seriously with the story or delivery. But it comes nowhere close to, say, Saints Row for delivering the Fun AND the funny.  It's closer to a time waster than anything.

welp - softabll has started - I'm falling behind already.

Still want to finish Ghost Recon - but I do a more balze of glory style now

Haven't touched Horizon in forever and really liked it

So I "finished" ghost recon.

Told me to go back and finish other missions for a different ending.

Not sure if I will

Maybe during co-op :)

played and finished MP3 on PC and have never ran into any issue like that. Have you hit it, or are you just avoiding it because you may.

mine ran fine. And i liked the game. Like you I enjoy the gruff haunted max Payne delivery of the game.

Enjoying XCOM 2 so far. Been kickin' butt on the early missions. But man, these games lately sure make me miss the good ol' days when games came with manuals that actually explained things. I think this whole "Half the fun is figuring things out" garbage is just weak justification to not bother even producing a PDF manual. I'm pretty sure a ship's commander would have a pretty good idea what a room actually does before he built it.

Finally finished Nioh NG+ and all side missions after 131 hours.  :whew:

I have a trip coming up next week so I'm not going to start anything new right now.  But XCOM 2 has been on my to-do list for quite a while, and my understanding is that they've sort of fixed the loading times.  So I priced it out.  $27 on Amazon.  Still $60 on PSN.  WTF?  I'd be happy to go digital, but come on man.

Does anyone here play 7 Days To Die?  I started on PS4, but then switched to playing it on PC.  Console version just got an update though.  It's a blast, crafting with zombies.  Every 7 nights, you get a zombie horde.

Its essentially a Minecraft mod.  I tried it on Xbox and hated it. Managing everything with a controller is a pain. I might try on PC some day but I like Minecraft more.

My friend loves it and is on like day 175 or something. Once you survive the first couple weeks you usually can build a solid fort that is completely safe.

I've pretty much given up on COD with how silly it's gotten. But the next version is rumored to be set in WWII. I'm at least intrigued.

COD in WW2? What is this madness?

Honestly though Modern Warfare, as much as I liked the campaign, was the beginning of the end for that genre with the younger generation. A whole group of kids grew up with that style of Multiplayer. I hate it. Never played more than that original MW.

You can't survive past night 7 on the PC without building some sort of bunker with a zombie trap.  It's significantly harder on PC, and a lot more fun because of it.

I wouldn't hold your breath. They basically took a nearly perfect game in MW and screwed up a re-release. All they had to do was pretty up some textures, but they started updating other parts.

Id like a WW2 game, but they've sped things up too much for realism.

I'm on the PS4 and haven't really noticed any issues with load times, which I didn't realize was an issue until you mentioned it. That being said, I am early game. Small squad size, etc. So I haven't exactly tested the limits as it were.

Allegedly, some of the levels literally took nearly 10 minutes to load when the game first launched, which I would consider "broken."  My understanding is that they patched it so that loading times are still kind of long-ish (like a full minute) but nowhere near as bad as they once were.

Man, I hope I don't run in to that! Thanks for the heads up.

It was actually at the end of missions where it was the worst.   sometimes you'd think I was just frozen and would never load... which wasn't terrible since the autosave was pretty good, but it would eventually kick in and you'd be at the victory screen.   The camera controls were terrible and the animations also sucked, but apparently most of that has been patched.

I think my favorite shooter was Battlefield Vietnam. Loved so much about it but the soundtrack was king.
That was the huge add-on to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I think that game is largely viewed as the best Battlefield. Definitely my favorite shooter.

Land I agree, the gameplay was great for the game and balance fantastic, but the sound was amazing. A re-mastered version of that game would be something I would definitely buy.

I think it's time for Americans to move away from our obsession with killing Nazis. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for killing Nazis but how many times can we kill Nazis and in how many different ways can we kill Nazis before killing Nazis just becomes mundane?

Fwiw I enjoyed the CoD Black Ops & Black ops 2 campaigns. Haven't played Black Ops 3 yet (or MW 4 for that matter).

I can probably dream up a few new ways.

It's been awhile since we've killed Nazis in a mainstream game.

I am really enjoying Divinity Original Sin.

I am unsure if I am just clueless or if it by design but I have absolutely no idea what I am doing on quests.  I am so used to having a quest be set and then you complete it using quest markers.

In Divinity I have about 25 active quests and have no idea how to advance any of them so I am just playing the game in pure explorer mode and if I advance a quest it seems to be more by chance than specifically going to a certain spot on the map.

So I learned a valuable lesson in XCOM 2 today. If your evac zone is on a roof, and you blow up and collapse said roof, then the evac area is moved. And on a timed mission, it is likely moved far enough you can't get everyone there. At first I thought it was just the mission dicking with me, that it had been designed that way. But then I replayed it, grenaded the same group of aliens, collapsed the same roof, and got screwed again. Lesson learned.
