Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

Draft Champions is a pretty fun mode.

Not judging your tastes at all because these modes are crazy popular, but this and MUT being hits are the reason they are able to give a slight UI upgrade and a middle finger to Franchise mode year after year and get away with it. Such bull####.

I like to do fantasy drafts in Franchise mode, but it takes a long time.  Draft Champions is 15 rounds and it is free to play.  Plus you can get some of the old stars in it.  I never understood the MUT thing either though.

Don't know how I missed Wolfenstein the old blood from 2015 cause I played new order to death.  Got it off steam for 9 bucks.  Great shooter.  Play these wolfensteins if you like shooting Nazis.   who the hell doesn't like shooting nazis?

Other nazis...nah they probably like it too.

I played one that has the old game in it. Which one is that? You have to go to cot and sleep. Then the original wolfenstein is the "nightmare".

I think the only real difference is VR capability
No....no it’s not.

The true native 60 FPS framerate on games that are PS4 Pro supported are incredible. If you are not using the Pro on a 4K HDTV then I would not bother. You still get a better framerate but visually nothing better.

I upgraded to a Pro and picked up a mid level Sony XBR Bravia 43’ Ultra 4K HD (HDR) tv (for $649) and Horizon Zero Dawn and MLB The Show 17 are jaw dropping amazing to play. I use the 4K HDR on Horizon and it is simply unreal.

On The Show 17 I use Enhanced Visuals instead of full fledged 4K as I want true 60 FPS on my framerate. It is amazing how much better I see the ball when at the plate. Parks look incredible, player models etc....just on a new level of wow.

Platinum trophy for HZD, 60 hour play time. My favorite game of all time possibly
Wow...90 hours for me and still going. It is possibly my all time favorite non sports game as well. Simply marvelous. Right there with The Last Of Us, Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 1 and 2. But along with Shadows of Mordor my favorite this generation (PS4) thus far.

Tonight I start Elite Dangerous. It is an immense, deep space MOM game (you can solo as well). You can also create a private party and play as a group with friends. Create a faction etc.

Been watching ObsidianAnt videos on Youtube as he is an expert player and has excellent videos to walk you through the game A-Z.

Really excited for this. The game is 100 times better than the game known as No Mans Sky.

Haha I thought 60 hours was long and I read every single datapoint I collected. Howd you get in an extra 30 hours?

Hmmm don't have a 4K tv right now... prob not in the market either since ours are too old at this point. Appreciate the info - have to see what I want to do.

Elite Dangerous is a mind-blowing experience.

No Mans Sky is a Yugo compared to this beast.

If you ever wanted to be Han Solo.......play this game.

Big learning curve......but within 2-3 hours I was in full control of my ship, navigation, and an overall understanding of everything going on. Incredibly deep universe, game, MMO, space simulator.

I am hooked and will be living an alternate life in space. Just wow.

This one has been on my list for a while. Will have to check it out.

B2G1 free sale right now on used games at GameStop. So I figured I'd load up a little since I own a grand total of like 4 PS4 games. If you were going to buy three games, what would they be? I only own:

Uncharted 4 (love these types of games), Horizon Zero Dawn, XCOM2 and Witcher III.

I played Skyrim, Fallout, most every game like UC4 (Tomb Raider, Last of Us, etc), Dark Souls. So I think I like a pretty good variety. What do PS4 players consider the must haves? Some I have considered:

RE4 (never played one of these), newer Deus Ex, Dark Souls III, Nioh(?), Shadow of Mordor. But I really am clueless as I simply haven't kept up on what's what. I am open to to whatever. So if you had just got a PS4 and were going to buy three games, what would they be? They can be older titles!

You an RPG guy? Divinity: Original Sin has the best combat of any top-down strategy RPG I've played. Your XCOM experience gives you a little idea of the tactical gameplay here. The type of RPG that's heavy on the inventory management and micromanagement of characters, which I love but some people hate.

Highly, highly recommend Shadow of Morder too. Great game and when it came out it felt like the first truly next-gen game imo.

If you like loot and level-up heavy RPGs and FPS games then the Borderlands 2 collection is just about the best combo of those genres. Think fast-paced shooter gameplay with Diablo loot and powers, interesting graphics and funny storylines.

Those are some of the "classics" I can think of that you didn't list as having played, and all will be available used.

I agree with everything @ConnSKINS26 said.

I would add that if you enjoy the Dark Souls series, Dark Souls 3 is fantastic.  And while I have not played Nioh, it got a strong recommendation from a few posters in here.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I was intrigued by NMS but wisely passed.  Watched a couple of videos of this one and decided to take the plunge.  (For $30, it's hard to go too wrong).

Mordor and DS III sound good, though based on what Cockroach said, maybe I'll get Mordor direct from PSN. Divinity sounds a bit like the Baldur's Gate of old? Am I am the right track?

They are both good.  I am a huge fan of the Souls franchise, so of course I am partial to DS3.  Shadow of Mordor was solid, but I am not the huge fan of it that many are.  IMO, it becomes way too easy as you level up.  Still a fun title though.  Just depends on what you're looking for.

Until Dawn is one of the free PS+ games in July.  That's a really nice choice and by far one of the better games they've offered in a while.
The PS+ offerings have been pretty decent lately.

-Had fun for a little while playing Disc Jam with friends

-Enjoyed Tales From The Borderlands

-Had fun for a few hours just floating around in Abzu with my daughter

-Have played a decent amount of Killing Floor 2 with friends

-Haven't got around to it yet, but looking forward to Life Is Strange

-Definitely looking forward to a couple of runthroughs of Until Dawn.

I'm glad they've gotten away from all the puzzlers and crappy retro "8-bit" platformers.

This.  PS+ has been pretty crappy for a long time.  In the time I've owned a PS4, I look back at Resogun, Don't Starve, Outlast, Transistor and that's almost it in terms of legitimately good games.  (I'm sure I'm leaving some out, and I apologize if so).  Until Dawn is the first AAA game to come along I think, and it's a really good title.

So are you supposed to be a 747 pilot in order to be able to play Elite: Dangerous. I feel like it should be automating 75% of the things it has you do. I can't even pass the tutorial missions.

I'd add in:

Bioshock Infinite

Valient Hearts

Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris

And one that they never would have likely given away for free if they had any idea it would blow up like it did: Rocket League

Just played through Valiant Hearts after getting it free on Xbox Gold. Surprisingly fun little game.

Injustice 1, Rocket League, NBA 2k

there have been some good ones

:lmao:  I just came in here to admit that it took me three tries to pass the launching/docking tutorial mission.  JFC even the tutorials don't really explain what you're supposed to be doing.  I actually had the timer run out on me the first time I tried docking.  I'm positive I'll get the hang of it, but there is absolutely no hand-holding here at all.

I chose Dark Souls III, Dishonered 2 and Valkyria Chronicles - Remastered. Good choices? The fact they are all priced exactly the same played in it some. Wanted to make sure I got full value out of the free one. I haven't hit BUY yet, so still time to back out.

Serious question for the single player game guys, why don't you challenge yourselfs by playing competitive multiplayer games?

Dark Souls 3 is amazing, but very difficult... especially so if you've never played a Dark Souls game.

So when I was in college or after in my 20s and single, I played multiplayer. Quake 3 arena, Call of Duty, etc... was pretty decent too. Not great, but I'd carry a 1.7 or 1.8 K/D ratio overall. I could hold my own.

Then I got married, took a job that required more time.  I still enjoy some multiplayer like Rocket League and Rainbow 6 Siege, but the COD games suck. I just don't have the time to get good and while my reflexes aren't poor, they're not as twitch-tastic in my mid-30s as they were back then.

I feel you on that one, I am 28 and my fps gaming skills have declined but I still do well. Even without alot of time you can still do decent in competitive fps games though.

I played multi-player fps's for years.  I enjoyed them.  Still do occasionally.  But there comes a time in a mans life when he just can't take the maturity levels of his fellow players. Unless you are playing with a bunch you know, you will get over it very quickly.  I don't need to "challenge" myself.  Been there done that.  Now I just like to enjoy the game.  Give me a single player game with a decent story any day of the week.  You'll get to that point some day too.  Trust me.

Serious question for the single player game guys, why don't you challenge yourselfs by playing competitive multiplayer games?
1. I'm looking for different things out of a game than most online multiplayer games can give me. "Challenge" isn't really the right word, I get that from other hobbies in my life although I have nothing against a very difficult game that falls within my interests. I'm an RPG guy for the most part. I don't care to switch to the newest multiplayer shooter every 3-6 months.

2. I can't think of a group of gamers I enjoy less than the online competitive shooter community. I'm sure it's a vocal minority but it's enough to taint the pool. And the best of them play a game constantly from release so it's not really a level playing field.

3. I want to do what I want to do in games, which means I lean toward games that give you lots of options, usually in a more open world setting. I have no interest in playing a round, waiting for the next one to load, playing another round, etc. The repetitive nature of it bores me to tears. You have to know the maps, etc. like the back of your hand to get good at those games and it's tedious unless you just want to #### around. I want to pause when I want, generally save when I want, play at my own pace, pore over inventory and journal pages and level-up screens...

It's just a different type of gaming. What gets your blood pumping and makes you feel accomplishment in a game probably doesn't do the same for me, and vice versa. Maybe we grew up playing different games, who knows. I'm also an avid reader so my gaming tastes tend toward epic storytelling as much as strategic gameplay, maybe that's part of it.

But the way you asked the question shows you don't "get it" from the jump, so I'm sure this won't cover it. I even try to see it your way every once in a while and it just doesn't suck me in. I've played numerous Maddens, COD's, I've tried Destiny, Star Wars Battelfront, and ESO. Just doesn't do it for me.

Actually it did thanks.

Actually it did thanks.
Didn't mean that to sound douchey, sorry. But the way you said "why don't you guys challenge yourselves" kind of comes off like "why don't you guys join the big leagues and play an actual hard game", which just shows we come from a different mindset.

Most people who aren't into competitive online gaming probably see the singleplayer games as the ones worth buying, supporting, and experiencing and the online shooters as the suckers bet, where a company tweaks some things and changes the setting and everyone comes stampeding to buy the next one because that's where the crowds have gone and when you game online you kinda have to follow the crowds.

It's just two totally different preferences I guess.

What I like most about games is playing through a story. One problem I've found with sandbox games like Horizon: Zero Dawn or Skyrim is that once I'm done playing through the story, I don't find it fun to just repetitively do things in the open world like encountering and killing wandering enemies or procedurally generated dungeons/quests that are basically the same over and over.

I've not found any multiplayer games that incorporate story. They're always just pop into a map, kill everything until the round ends. I get bored with that almost immediately.

I do play R6 Siege. It scratches that itch of a competitive game like search and destroy on COD used to do for me. I like the single life per round objective type gameplay. With Siege, playing smart and being careful is 80% of it, with the shooting ability being the other 20%.  I like the strategy involved in that and a good bit of the time when I die, I feel like I made a mistake.

I find most of the online community to be toxic in nature.  It ruins the gaming experience for me.

Personally, unless you are beating single player games like Dark Souls with no deaths, I don't quite understand the comment about single player games being not challenging.

Fair enough. I guess I always leaned towards PvP games because I'm very impatient and always skip the story scenes in single player games lol. I also enjoy the strategy aspect as well when playing vs others.
