Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

My PSN is Bordman feel free to add me before then if you want.
I'm not even signed up for PS4 to play online.  Like I said, I play things for the single player stuff.  I do my multi-player stuff on the computer.  But if I do sign up, I definitely will add you.  If this zombie thing is any good, I just might.

I'm PS4 as well, but I've got to be honest.  Haven't played any 1st person shooters on console, only on PC.  There would probably be a steep learning curve on controller use.

@bigmarc27 @GroveDiesel @Copeman

Any of you 3 (or anyone else reading this) playing on PS4? I would be up for some Zombies. Is there co-op campaign in this one?
Nah, XB1 for now.  I kind of wished I bought the PS4. I got the XB1 because I used to play constantly with my brothers, friends, even my dad on occasion depending on the game when we all had a 360. We all have the XB1 now and it’s basically a Netflix machine for most of them.

Post your current specs?
The video card and the memory are at min specs, and the processor isn't good enough.  I'll have to look what exactly it is when i get home.  My old gaming rig STB a few months ago, so I put this one together with older components I had lying around.  Gets the job done for most games I play (older), but I dunno if it would run pubg very well.

Definitely post. I’ll see what I can pilfer. I want to upgrade my card so my 770 may be free.

It's been a while since I built or worked with computer hardware.  The one I am using now I just added an old video card and some memory.  But the vid card you sent me a few years ago, which is the one I have for my gaming rig that just STB, wouldn't work in this older pc.  It didn't fit.

I wanted to call in sick yesterday and take the day to play the South Park Game. I've only been able to play for about an hour or so, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

I ended up with week off starting yesterday due to a scheduling mistake by my company and didn’t even realize this was out. Got into it a bit. I’d say it’s a solid 7/10.

I’m officially obsessed with pubg. Sadly I can’t play enough to get really good at the shooting. We got into a fire fight in tight quarters with another squad last night and I should have been able to take them all out after TLEF and another guy were downed. But I ran out of ammo spraying shots at the enemy and I couldn’t loot the dead bodies before I was killed. It was still a blast. I find myself thinking about the game a lot during the day. It’s fairly brilliant.

Yeah last night did not go well. I played like garbage and put myself in bad spots on several occasions. We'll have to so better next time.

But yes it is a very fun game

I'm obsessed with a $5 game on sale this week called Unepic. It's a fairly difficult and deep 2D platforming RPG.

I haven't been playing a lot of games lately but I've been getting up and hour early for work just to squeeze in a little bit of time.

BTW, they released a remastered version of Dragons Dogma with all the content.

I had no idea. I never finished it but really liked it the bit I played. That game has some of the coolest monsters I've ever seen.

Finished up South Park: The Fractured but Whole and it’s a 8/10 for me. My review, no spoilers...

Story: 8, solid. Lots of jokes, interesting enough story with good pace. Plays like you’re watching a season or movie of South Park.

Combat: 5, average. I played at the default difficulty and this seemed to be a bit easy but anymore difficult and it could get a bit tedious at times. There’s nothing new or special here but I feel like it is pretty solid (I am no expert in turn based RPGs though).

World: 8, great. It’s a long running show so obviously it’s extremely fleshed out. The fast travel system isn’t great but it’s a fairly small map and more fun to walk to where you want to go anyways. If you don’t ever watch South Park everything will be new interesting. If you do watch it there is enough references that you’ll enough it and get a few more jokes.

Extras: 5/10, average. The crafting and “puzzles” are pretty underwhelming. There’s a steady stream of cosmetic loot for people interested in that but, to me, there wasn’t a huge variance in the looks. Or at least the look that I wanted.

Polish: 9, amazing. Only 1 issue where a new fight didn’t load. This might have just been an issue where I had to wait a bit longer for it to load though. The level of attention that they gave to everything is amazing. You can punch a newspaper box and you get scrap for crafting. However, it’s not called scrap it’s a changing headline from the newspaper. There’s probably 30+ different newspaper headlines. And that’s just scrap from mail boxes. Scrap from characters houses/garbage cans seems to be unique to that character. Obviously the voice acting and is on point. I never had one issue of character or screen clipping. Nor was there ever an issue of unsynced characters with the voices.

Value: TBD. I really enjoyed this game but it seems like the perfect “Wait for the GotY Edition with all the DLC.” It will age perfectly because of the art style. I don’t feel like it has much to offer for replay and is kind of short even with all (sans 2 “collect all of these”) side missions played. Maybe 25 hours? No micro transactions in this game was fantastic though. There is two outfits that you get if you sign into a Ubisoft account I think.

Conclusion: 8, great. The humour won’t be for everyone and the combat/gameplay isn’t some special thing that could carry any story. If you’re good with South Park humour, I'd say wait for a price drop and/or all the DLC to be released. I think full price is fine as well since I actually enjoyed the 25 hours with this game. Rather than being mildly interested for longer like a ton of other games that I played. It is refreshing to just play a game too. No online BS or micro transactions or loot boxes or any other stuff like that. Everything feels hand made and tailored for the game. No filler.

looking to see how low FO4:goty gets this sale. Also looking to pick up banner saga 2.

Also, if anybody had anything to say to the folks at NeoGAF, your window of opportunity seems to be closing.  The owner of the site has a long history of sexual harassment allegations, but apparently a new accuser just came forward, and that caused the site to implode upon itself.  Nearly all of the moderators have resigned, which is sort of a death knell I suppose.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

It showed up on shelves with little fanfare but it's a really good game. I'm not quite finished and it is a bit short but the story is good, the controls are perfect, and it's absolutely stunning to look at (and I don't just mean playing as Chloe).

It's definitely better than U4 and I think it's only behind U2 for me. It was on sale over the weekend and it's probably okay to wait for it to do so again, but I highly recommend it to Uncharted fans.

Fired up Red Dead Redemption after many years away. I was pretty high, but it looked fn great on the Xbone. It has aged well (or ported over well)

Cannot wait for #2.

Getting my head handed to me at the sawmill right now.  This game is...challenging.
I'm not too far yet (still on the island), but, yes, it's challenging.  Getting ambushed is just about a death sentence.

I will say it's deep, engaging, and so far lots of fun.

Chasing down question marks and whatnot may lose it's flavor pretty quick. It did after the first area for me. Main story is great though.
But a lot of those ? area’s thus far have been places of power, monster nests and some great loot and side quests. I am finding them to be essential in leveling up Geralt.

I am also reading all the books and lore. I really immerse myself into this type of stuff once I commit to a RPG. I had poured 300 plus hours between two character builds in Skyrim.......this game officially has pulled me away from my current Skyrim build (Wood Elf Archer/Thief) on the remastered version on PS4 Pro.

I am really enjoying the amazing voice acting and excellent story writing. A huge departure from Skyrim where I have to use my own imagination to adventure most of time.

Game is AAA in the RPG world.

Yes, in the initial area. After that, not so much. I left probably 50% of them unexplored even after playing both expansions.

Check out the books if you love the story, they really fill things out. I'm almost done with the last book in the series.

it's a full series, there are two short story books that are just geralt and friends random adventures, (the last wish and sword of destiny). Then there is a 5 book series about geralt and ceri (first book is blood of elves)Pretty much sets up the witcher 3 game. First two aren't as directly related to the series, though the first game does take place after the events in the series.

I just re-read them all as the last book in the series was just translated to English this year I think.

In the interview, Heir really lets fly at EA, signalling that the rise of microtransactions and the addition of often redundant multiplayer components are destroying the experiences for single-player gamers.

"This is definitely a thing inside of EA. They are generally pushing for more open world games, and the reason is you can monetize them better,” Heir went on to say. “The words EA use are ‘have them come back again and again.’ Why do you care about that, EA? The reason you care about that is because of microtransactions--people buying card packs for the Mass Effect games in multiplayer, etc. That's the same reason why we added multiplayer to Mass Effect 3, right? To get people to keep coming back to a thing to ‘just’ play for 60-100 hours."

The unskippable cut scenes in NBA2K almost have me giving up on the game.  Almost.  Along with the frustration of not being able to play on the blacktop unless you are 85+ essentially.  Bunch of garbage.

It’s a public company so the only thing that matters is share prices and dividends. The purpose of the company at that point is to generate money not the art of making games. Which is fine because it opens the door for games like the Witcher, Horizon, Uncharted and so on.

The other positive is that this EA business model benefits the average person as well. We pay $60 for the game and then have the option of paying more through micro transactions. But really EA just wants to make sure that 90% of the people who buy the game feel satisfied enough to stay because we support the “whales” that dump $15,000 into card packs. If micro transactions make the average player feel like they are missing out (a pay to win situation) then it’s just a bunch of people who spent money which makes the lower tier of spenders feel like spending money was of no benefit. It would also likely kill the player base, which kills the game and then no one is there to spend money on the micro transactions. So any extra spending areas on a game are likely to be mostly cosmetic. EA can push limits with finding ways to extract money from players but if they over do it and screw up launch messaging on one game it could be a possible 9 figure loss on a major game.

I guess we're the dinosaurs then that want a great single player experience for games that have traditionally been that. Tacking on Multiplayer just to do it wastes time and money that could have been used making the single player better. But I guess they see micro transactions as a more cost effective way of making their money back even though they ruin a stable franchise.

I wish they’d just raise the price of single player games, especially the lengthy RPGs. I’d easily pay $80-100 bucks for Skyrim, Fallout, Witcher, etc.
