Although I must say the settlement aspect (with some useful and necessary mods) really distinguishes FO4 from 3 and NV. Doesn't make it better, and for many it makes it worse, but for me it was a nice break from wandering from quest to quest.
I actually kinda despise it. maybe it's because I feel like I'm too busy to devote that much time to it.

when FO3 came out, that was 10 years ago. I checked every mailbox & trash can and squirreled away every piece of junk, ammo & caps I could find. but when I started playing FO4 a couple months ago, I was like "ugh, this is tedious."

I guess I was exaggerating when I said everyone. People here are mostly nice, but there's a lot of very angry serious business at other internet destinations.

I only played FO4 and I loved that game.  So I could go back and play vegas and it wouldn't feel old or outdated after playing 4 so much the last couple years?
Just based on the age of the graphics and gun-play, yeah it would feel outdated. Depends on how you feel about playing old games. Regardless, it was still a great game for its time. I believe 3 was as well.

I'm the same as you. I can see why others enjoy the building aspect but it's not for me.

I'm putting together a mod list for my upcoming play through, and this is going to sound stupid, but the thing I'm most excited about is a mod that allows me to put one of my settlers in charge and they will coordinate and build up the settlements without my involvement, freeing me up to just shoot and loot. CAN'T WAIT!!

It would be awesome if this new game mode attracted all the quick twitch teenagers, and left the TDM games to us old fogies who are slowing down.
I feel the exact opposite. The new mode relies much more on teamwork, playing deliberately, and strategy. I hope the young whippersnappers stick to TDM or the new battle Royale mode and let me soak in the glory of the new mode that plays to my use of strategy and teamwork and won't penalize me as heavily for slower reflexes.

Hmm. I was referring to the battle Royale as the new mode. What is the other mode that requires teamwork and strategy?

There's a new multiplayer mode called Control. Each team has 30 total lives per round. Each round has an attacking team and a defending team. There are two objectives that you have to either take or defend like a combo Hardpoint/Domination flag.

I think the attacking team wins by either taking both objectives or eliminating the defending team and the defending team wins by eliminating all of the attackers.

I really really like the way they seem to be doing the multiplayer scoreboard as welll. The public scoreboard/ranking is based off of your total score which is derived from objectives taken/defended, enemy deaths that you contributed to (so not just kills) and damage dealt. No k/d listed on public scoreboard at all. Only place it's mentioned is at bottom of screen for each person.

That sounds awesome. I feel like I played something like that decades ago but I can't remember what game it might have been.

It's similar to Conquest in Battlefield in a lot of ways.

They're also increasing health to 150 to try to make gun battles last longer and expand strategy some. It should also give them a lot more options for tweaking all sorts of game/weapon balance items. I'm sure there will be lots of people upset that the game won't be so fast and twitchy, but the limited gameplay that was released by popular streamers that were invited to Treyarch's event looked pretty decent to me.

Here's some gameplay in the new Control mode: https://youtu.be/pLALf36UeGM

Looks interesting.  I like the objective based modes. I only played hardcore capture the flag on Black Ops 3. I'm about to jump on now and see if anyone still plays.

I think it's called Sim_Settlements and it's a great mod.

I spent a good amount of time just searching for companions just so I could set them up leading my settlements. Once they get a settlement to Level 3 you can safely pull them from one settlement and move them to another.

Well developed settlements end up supplying you with tons of resources.

It also gives.you the ability to micromanage a bit. For example I like going to a well developed settlement and dropping down a nuclear power plant which allows you to scrap all the mini generators freeing up space and resources.

Even with that mod I still found enough settlements that I had to manage myself to keep them going until another leader became available. The only drawback is by the time I was able to bring in a leader to some settlements they were pretty well built up and when you assign a leader they scrap everything and start over (the mod does a much better job with initial city planning then I ever could so it's worth it).

Ah, I see. So the companions are the assigned leaders. Didn't realize that.

Either way, this will still work great for me. At the rate I explore they'll have no trouble building up settlements before I have need to move them. I have another mod that randomizes the locations of all bobbleheads and magazines, so I'll be scouring every map area I come across.

I'm still putting my xbox mod load order together, around 120 or so thus far, mostly the big popular ones... any lesser-known mods you would recommend?

Beat Superhot. Just took a few hours. It’s fun, but there’s not much to it. You shoot, throw your gun, grab another, shoot... all in slow motion.

Good concept and execution, little variety.

Yes, the only valid leaders are companions.  The mod creators have talked about changing that to allow for different leaders but if they haven't by now... still it's not a problem in my eyes.  I want my specials to be in leadership positions rather than just hanging out in whatever town you leave them in.

I play on PC so I don't know how this applies to console gamers but here are the mods I currently am using (and like):

The Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch I honestly have no idea about everything it does but it seems pretty essential.

Sim Settlements
Sim Settlements Rise of the Commonwealth this is the mod that actually allows you to assign leaders to communities.  You need sim settlements to run this.

Lowered Weapons it seems like a small thing on the surface but it is a noticeable improvement and once you have it you'll understand why. "Get that damn gun out of my face!"

Improved Maps with Visible Roads there may be other mods for improving the map on your Pip-Boy, this is the one I chose and it is an improvement over the vanilla UI

Faster Terminal Displays whichever coder at Bethesda thought it would be a good idea to have computer terminals reveal text at the pace of a 1950s dot matrix printer can eat a bag of #####. This mod speeds up terminals.

Valdicil's Item Sorting another thing Bethesda really dropped the ball on is inventory control. This mod does a better job of allowing you to manage your inventory. Let's you get rid of junk much easier.

Armour and Weapons Keywords Community Resource (AWKCR) - I think this is required to allow Valdicil's Item Sorting function better.

Power Armour Animation Changes again, how Bethesda thought seeing a ploddingly slow animation for something you do regularly in this game is mind boggling. Speeds up the animation for jumping in and out of power armour.
Shaikujin's Better Warning for Settlements Being Attacked if you value protecting your settlements this puts up an in game pop up that you need to click out of to let you know when a settlement is under attack, something easily missed in the vanilla UI when there could be a lot going on.

Easy Lockpicking initially I was anti this mod but after my ten thousandth lockpicking attempt, and accumulating about half a billion lockpicks I figured just get me through it ASAP. There is no value in picking locks yourself (although I still enjoy hacking terminals myself as it is more of a brain game).

Everyone's Best Friend this is a great mod and, IMO, absolutely necessary. It allows you to have a companion AND Dogmeat travel with you at the same time.  It effectively doubles your storage capacity as you now have two pack mules with you.  This is an increasingly critical element when it comes to assigning leaders when using the Sim Settlements mod. Not only can you bring them more building resources to speed up settlement development, you can also "donate" more weapons, armour, food and water to the settlements which the Leader then doles out to the populace. No more talking with each settler and swapping out gear to make them stronger (which helps them defend the settlements more effectively if you can't/won't go help).

I consider all the above pretty essential, here are a few more that I just kind of find useful:

True Storms this is a very popular atmospheric mod that, for those so inclined, improves the weather appearances in FO4.

Companion Stealth Distance I don't know about you but I hate it when Dogmeat or a companion stealth moves in front of me. It prevents me from surveying ahead and is just plain annoying.  This mod fixes that.

ETSGS Easy to see glowing stuff. I am a loot whore, I love loot but it can be a real PITA when you carefully clear a building only to find out later that you missed a Perk Mag and have to go back and get it.  This makes special loot easier to see.

Perk Magazine Material Fix because ETSGS doesn't work on every mag, this fixes that.

Better Settlers if you enjoy the settlement aspect of FO4 this is a nice addition as it adds a ton more variety to your settlers. It adds 240 additional settler models. I like that but it does require two additional mods Eli's Armour Compendium and Ponytail Hairstyles by Azar v2.5A

Craftable Ammunition this is NOT a "unlimited ammo of all types" game breaking type mod. What it does do is allow you to craft an ammo crafting workbench and, if you have the correct resources you can craft ammo and not rely exclusively on scrounging it.  It is a bit confusing to learn how to use and all that but it's worth it IMO.

MLB The Show 18 -  The game is simply the best sports game I have ever played.

Does it have a farm system like in MVP Baseball 2005? I was actually looking for a new baseball game and wanted some recommendations. I have both an xbox 360 and Xbox one.

I think The Show is only PS4
This is correct.  Yes it does have a farm system, but it is not available on Xbox one. It also has a Road to the Show option, where you start out in the minor leagues after getting drafted and work your way up.  This was one of the main reasons I bought a PS4 when I already had an Xbox one.

I got an 8000 person host on twitch today while playing PubG, and for a brief moment of time I had more viewers than shroud.  It was the best 2 hours of my life.  :D

Sounds like you making fat stacks yo
I did get a lot of followers but my channel rules state specifically please don't ask for a sub or donation button.  I'm blessed, I do the twitch thing for fun and to find and have fun with cool people.  I guess maybe I'm being stupid there, but I don't have the energy, nor am I the age to be able to deal with that economy.

You can download the OSFM Full Minors rosters.....and you will have the full 90 man rosters. Playable AA and AAA leagues. Single A only has 15 players. You get 25 man rosters for MLB, AAA and AA teams. You develop your players through training and playing/performance.

If you have never played MLB The Show......you will be blown away at how amazing the game play is on the diamond.

I suggest you head over to Operation Sports and check out the The Show Forums. A wealth of roster and slider and settings info over there.

We have very similar taste in mods because about half of those you mentioned are already on my list. I'll look up the other half and see if they are available for xbox, or if there are equivalents. Specifically, the companion stealth, improved map, better warning system, and glowing stuff mods are ideas that I have never run across until now.. and seem like improvements to the game that are sorely needed. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated!!!

Speaking of Fallout 4, finally got around to playing again yesterday for a few hours and did the Big Dig quest. Found a nice set of X-01 power armor while doing it, but I got out of the armor at one point and before I could take the power core out, I was suddenly attacked by a bunch of high level ghouls that were actually tough to take out. Finally finish the battle and realize that Bobbie No Nose stole my damn power armor! Had to restart from an earlier save because I couldn't get her out of it. Tried pickpocketing the fusion core, but it would turn her hostile.

Ha! Not laughing at you personally, but honestly some of my best gaming memories are when NPCs do weird stuff and piss me off.

So I bought AC: Origins on release date, but I was in the middle of an XCOM 2 obsession at the time, so I played it for like 10 minutes then went "eh, it looks a'ight" and told myself I'd get back to it but then never did until a coupld of days ago. Holy poop, I'm all in. This game is everything I've been looking for in AC so far, and I haven't even reached Alexandria yet. So hooked.

Figured maybe one of you might enjoy this.  There was a version of Risk back in the late 80s that ran on Apple that is still my favorite cpu version I've played, mainly because it's super fast, doesn't try to wow you with graphics.  That, and it has a "conservative" AI setting that makes for really tough games.  I generally play against 4 cpu opponents on conservative, and 1 on aggressive so the aggressive one helps force the others into using up some troops on someone other than me.

The rules aren't perfectly implemented, particularly free moves, but still worth it.

Anyway, if you like Risk and want a good time waster, this guy bundled it up inside an Apple emulator that runs on Windows:  https://www.richardloxley.com/fun/risk/

Shortcuts:  Control-F will do full screen.  To quickly exit the game, hold Control and hit Q and then Y to confirm.

If you need some tips on how to take on that many conservative cpu opponents, feel free to ping me.  Have come up with a number of strategies that help.

Can't open the link at work, but is this the one where your soldiers respond "our is not to wonder why, ours is but to do or die" before every attack?  I played that a lot on my old PC many many years ago.

I googled - no idea what it is - barely played God of War 1 cause I didn't like any of the games

Im by no means bashing you, more like friendly ribbing but I giggle every time I see you post in here because I wonder to myself, "Why does Bell even play games, he hates all of them?!?".

That's not true at all.   I love gears, cod, splinter cell, ghost recon, battlefields, gta and sports and driving games.

Now I'm not huge into sports games much anymore but that's all I used to play.  I was a huge recon cod guy. I just don't play online much at all. I'm old now.

I've never like rpg games. And the original God of War button mashing sucked

Shrug

Eta I've probably raced 100 Nascar races this year so far...unsure

Eta not mad

Eta 3 this game plays more like last of us then a god of war

Eta 5 not a lot of excitement with the golf club and NHL 17

Nope, it has no extra graphics, sound, or anything else that slows the game down.  Which is why I like it over every other version I've played.   Most it does is it dings to let you know a CPU turns in a card set.

Dark Souls remaster tomorrow. I think I’m gonna wait just a bit til we get a price drop down to $20. I’m not sure how much I’d be able to play right now and it seems more like a game for the Fall anyway.

Part of me wants in early for the pvp/co-op but the other agrees with you. I imagine it'll be $20 by July.

Similar to this, are there any good 4x type games out there these days? I miss being able to play MOO and some others from my youth. Aside from the occasional iteration of Civilization, seems like a genre that kind of died out as everyone moved to consoles.

gog.com has a bunch of old games wrapped in emulators for play on modern machines.  There's a bundle of MOO 1 through 3, bundle of Castles 1-2 I've got, and I think my bundle with Ultima 5 was from them.  Been meaning to pick up Silent Service at some point.

Edit to add:  MOO2 has some customized lists you can set for build order and set them with hotkeys.  So much nicer for managing things.

pre-ordered, pre-loaded. Read some reviews that said it looks great, plays real smooth, and blighttown (etc) run great. They can have my $40. :)

Same here.  I'm happy to spend the extra $20 to jump right back into Undead Burg now.

Edit: Funnily, I looked up some information on how to start off as a sorcerer, and it steered me right to the "Go through Blighttown and get the red robes and tin banishment catalyst" shortcut that you mentioned earlier in the thread.

Rumors for BlackOps4 is that there will be no Season Pass or paid multiplayer map packs. All multiplayer map packs will be free (according to the rumor).

That would be a HUGE step in the right direction. The past model has fragmented the player base and contributes to the quick drop-off in players. With free maps, people will have more incentive to stick around. And you will be able to play new maps and actually have other people playing.
