Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (10 Viewers)

Picked up NHL 19 recently.  Been loyal to FIFA for years but I'm taking a year or more off, and I'm done w/ Madden but wanted a sports game for a bit.

Never really been a hockey fan, but I'm enjoying playing the game.  Got it on the PS store for like $20.  Definitely getting my $ out of it.

Dota Auto-Chess is the nuts. Such a good game. Easy to learn - there is no instruction manual. You just have to play.

I know @hagmania is playing -- @NewlyRetired you'd probably love it.

Just dl DOTA and go to the "Arcade" and play Auto-Chess

Also - it's nothing like chess. It's just played on a chess board. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Apex looks like a fun, highly polished blend of Overwatch/PUBG. I'll probably check it out.

Tonight, I re-downloaded Dying Light Enhanced Edition, remembering that since we finally got a second PS4 this year, the gf and I can co-op it. We both played through the tutorial tonight to get to the point where you can co-op, looking forward to it. It has to be one of the best games to play with someone else, although I wouldn't know yet. But parkour and zombie smashing with a buddy has to be a blast.

So I’m pretty geeked about Sekiro next month but...

No multiplayer - while not a dealbreaker, without CoOp or Invading, I see no reason to buy day 1. I’d rather wait til the DLC and stuff comes out and play the entire package like I am with Bloodborne at the moment. It’s not like I don’t have a backlog already of games to play.

Ill probably still buy it though.

I downloaded it and tried to read up on it but did not get far.  I have three basic questions

1) is the first round basically rock/paper/scissors and just comes down to what piece you chose vs your opponent?

2) from reading, I found that picking pieces that synergize with each other is important but I can't find any information on how to know which skill synergizes with other skills.  Is this something just blatantly obvious or is it learned?

3) I don't understand when the game play is PVP vs PVE or if that even matters...

I can't do scary games lol. Hate that sense of dread while gaming. Like I can't breathe from the suspense. Games are supposed to be fun/relaxing/enjoyable. Scary games aren't for me.

I tried games like PT and Outlast. Deleted them after trying to play a night or two.
amen

Resident evil 2 remake is a must play imo.  It's great
I'm about 2/3 of the way through my second run.  I did my first as Claire, and I'm working on Leon B now.  This is a fantastic game.  The level design is small in scale, but it's similar to Dark Souls in that you can form a little mental map of where each room is and how to get from one area to the next and back, with alternate paths as needed.  It has exceptionally high replay value.  My first playthrough took me about 11 hours because I explored every nook and cranny, but subsequent runs are much shorter once you know what you're doing, where you're going, and why.

I fully intend to platinum this one if possible.  The Hunk mission looks seriously hard, but I should be able to handle it if I'm sufficiently motivated.

It took me about 6 or 7 tries last night. It's hard but doable. You just have to keep moving and know when to use each item.

Wtf is the hunk mission?  I beat it with Leon and now playing Claire
You never play the original? Hunk is the 4th survivor. He's one of the Umbrella Spec Ops sent to retrieve the g virus. You have to go from the sewers to the front gates of the police station in one go with every nasty thing possible thrown in your way. It unlocks after you beat the B scenario (2nd run).

i sure did but i dont remember that lol

"BioWare classics are coming to console this year"

Game developers and publishers Skybound Games and Beamdog announced today that they will be working together to bring a collection of classic PC roleplaying games to consoles. The companies will be breathing new life into a number of titles set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe.

The selection of titles that will be making the move to console includes several originally published by BioWare. Games from the Baldur's Gateseries including Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate ll and Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear will all come to consoles. Neverwinter Nights will also make the jump. Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment, two games that originally used BioWare's Infinity Engine, will arrive on a new platform this year, as well.

There is no set release date for any of the titles and no official word on which consoles will get the times, but Skybound and Beamdog said they plan on releasing the titles over the course of 2019. The games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights both received enhanced editions for PC before, but this will be the first time these games will be available on console.

The first few rounds you just pick a cheap guy. You can sell pieces back for the same cost you bought them if you go a different direction w your build.

Synergies are super important. Click on the hero and hover over their 2 boxes. Each hero has a race and a class and those sybergize. For example 3 different types of warriors give you a buff for all warriors. Does that make sense? I stream it every night and can explain more later in a longer post

3 of the same hero will give you a level 2 hero.

In game fighting is all passive and automatic. You don't need to click anything. Just build synergies and later on we can get into board positioning.

It's possible. To have up to 4 or 5 simultaneous synergies.

Also read up on gold economy. It's uber important.

This is also helpful my friend https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/af3dc4/my_quick_guide_to_dota_auto_chess_a_fantastic/

I know it's nice to have information when you start a game, but it's literally one of those games you just have to play. It was invented by some DOTA player as part of their Arcade section and is probably the most addictive game I've ever played if you're into strategy and thinking stuff. You're going to love it if you just give yourself enough time to "get" it.

Lastly re: PVP - you're playing another player, but they aren't playing against you. It just rotates around randomly. you play an army, but the guy you're playing is likely playing someone else.

It's not too far off from Clash of Clans to be honest. That's the closest thing I can compare it to

I DL'd Hitman free from PS+. After the training missions, it just throws you into the deep end and leaves you free to proceed as you see fit. I've made virtually no progress in the Showstopper mission as I have no idea how to not get caught subduing a victim in a crowded room. It's a steep learning curve, but still pretty fun.

You don't.  You have to figure out how to isolate the target and take them out when they're alone.

For example, the female target in that mission stops by a party on an upper-story balcony and drinks from a particular wine glass.  Get up there, disguise yourself as a waiter (one conveniently passes through a nearby empty room) and put rat poison in her drink (there is some in the basement pantry).  She'll get sick and go to the bathroom, giving you the opportunity for some alone time.

A good all-purpose tip is to distract tip is to distract annoying guards with coins.  If they don't see you toss the coin, they'll go wherever you tossed it to investigate.  So toss a coin down an isolated hallway to get a guard out of the public eye where they can be choked out.  You can also overflow sinks and turn on radios to lure people into rooms where you would like them to be.

Each map also has a bunch guided "opportunities" or "story missions" (I forget the nomenclature).  They'll walk you through some elaborate and funny ways of killing the targets while still offering up some challenge.  They also help you learn the map.

So far this year with the PS4 I finished up Shadow of the Colossus (good game but has aged, atrocious controls) and Bloodborne the other day (great game, love FromSoft games).  Since I don’t have anything ready to jump into, I turned PUBG back on since I never played the new map Vikendi.  Dammit, I just love this game. It’s so addicting. I’m not the best aim, so I treat the game as one big hide and seek match, use the terrain to my advantage, and kill when advantageous. First try, I die within a minute. Second try, I die within a minute.  Third try, I come in 3rd and had a good spot but the circle pinched me in between the final two. Forth try, a 4 kill WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

That game scratches an itch for me.

Even for someone who's never played a Resident Evil game?
Be advised that while this game has been updated for modern audiences (over-the-shoulder camera, comparatively plentiful ammo, etc.) it is still survival horror.  You're going to spend a lot of time avoiding combat when its possible to do so, carefully lining up headshots when its not, and managing your resources.  If you approach this game like a COD zombies mode, you'll run into a brick wall when you get to spots that require you to have some ammo stockpiled.

The thing that makes these kinds of games fun is that while they look like shooters on the surface, they're essentially puzzle games.  You're constantly asked to figure out how to accomplish short-run goals at the lowest resource cost and at an acceptable level of risk.  For example, to get out of this building and advance the game, I need to get a key item out of a particular room.  There is a big, invincible guy following me around who is going to barge in as soon as I grab the key, and there is a powerful monster right outside the door that is blind but responds very aggressively to noise.  How do I get in and out of that room without getting myself killed?  "Guns blazing" is an option, but the game never gives you enough ammo to rely on that as anything other than a last resort.

Computer guys, this rig any good? I know nothing about computer gaming:

iBUYPOWER Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 - 2TB Hard Drive + 240GB Solid State Drive

It will play everything available for the next 5+ years on Ultra settings.  But whether or not is any good depends on how much it costs.

ETA: Just looked it up and at a very, very quick glance $1,300 seems like a solid deal.  But I would run it past @Dentist presuming that is still his thing. It was Dentist who did the build a home rig thread, right?

@Mad Cow

Anyone getting Anthem? It looked interesting from Trailers but looks like a cheap Destiny Knock off which I stopped playing after all the stuff you needed became more of behind a paywall. Whats the whole story behind this game?

I know I'm getting Division 2. Didn't finish the first one but saw the ending. More so when I had the game I played it for a while but then had zero time to finish and other games came out I wanted. Really liked the first one besides a few issues. Thinking of getting Days Gone as it looks interesting. I'm not much of a Zombies guy and was maybe one of the few who could careless and didn't get all the hoopla over the COD Zombie modes. I'm more of a Vampires and Werewolves Underworld etc type guy but Days gone looks interesting. I'm not big on Zombies and the scare. Hell my fear of snakes I had a hell of a time even getting past that boss mission In AC Origins. Literally racing heart, cold sweat and shaking hands still have no clue how I cleared that mission. At one point I knew my brother was coming by the next day and was thinking of just leaving that mission to him to beat for me. Dead serious.

Other then these three games not sure what else is out there this year I'm excited for other then the typical yearly sports games I get

I suck at APEX. I think I have one kill in 6 rounds.
I haven't played it yet because my skills in FPS games is declining rapidly as I get older, but from watching some streamers play, it appears that they win 99% of the time.  They should consider getting rid of the mechanic that allows dead players to be re-spawned.  Half the time they engage in fights I can't even see what they are shooting at.

Yes.  Running should always be the first option.

Have been super interested in this one since I read a preview a few months back in Game Informer. As always, I'll wait for the reviews to come out. Not a "day one" person. I prefer to know what I'm getting. But I sure hope it lives up to its promise.

I'm gonna start not doing day 1 purchases unless its a must have like Red Dead 2. Pre ordering anymore just enables these companies to put more stuff behind. pay wall which sucks.

I have 3 in 4 rounds.  I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.  I hate battle royale games.
They suck solo but in a squad it's way more fun. Most of my friends are Xbox guys I got the PS4. I just don't have the money or really the patients to get an Xbox and hook and un hook the systems to play with my friends on Xbox.

I played with FBG Worm and a friend we have in common that I usually play Rocket League with.  Oddly enough, I got all 3 of my kills in a game I played without them.  Not that it was their fault when I played with them.  I'm just really bad at BR games.

I still love PUBG. The key to these games is to squad with friends. TLEF and Bender carried me in PUBG until I met a few other reliable friends. Someone has to lead. Everyone has to call out. Someone has to be the fodder. That’s my role. Know your role.
