Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

I still love PUBG. The key to these games is to squad with friends. TLEF and Bender carried me in PUBG until I met a few other reliable friends. Someone has to lead. Everyone has to call out. Someone has to be the fodder. That’s my role. Know your role.
I guess I'm the fodder.  I described my experience of the game as a "walking simulator until I see someone, or usually they see me first... then it becomes a dying simulator with me telling the other two 'they're over here where I got shot'.  That can describe my experience with PUBG and Fortnite also.

The best I ever did in either game was coming in 3rd in a solo game of Fortnite and I maybe built three or four walls* the whole time because I hate the building aspect and I basically used stealth for instead.  (*used it to lure in a guy that was shooting at me. they thought I was behind the wall still and I shot him as he came around the corner and I was actually behind a tree behind the wall).

I simply have always hated shooters where it's one life and you're done.  Counter-strike... hate it.  Call of Duty: Search & Destroy... hate it and usually left the party anytime they started playing that mode.   That doesn't mean the games are bad.  It just means they aren't for me.

That said, I may still give the game a go a few times.  But I don't expect better results.

Yeah it's definitely not COD. Can't go guns blazing. It's why I love battlefield more then Cod way more strategy

It will play everything available for the next 5+ years on Ultra settings.  But whether or not is any good depends on how much it costs.

ETA: Just looked it up and at a very, very quick glance $1,300 seems like a solid deal.  But I would run it past @Dentist presuming that is still his thing. It was Dentist who did the build a home rig thread, right?
Yeah, you could not build it for that price.  Great deal.

Not sure if I agree with you. For most games when you hit the 40 hour mark it starts to become a repetitive grind.
I like exploring.  Finding locations, discovering things.  I'm sure I'm going to enjoy the game based on the dev's track record, but I like sprawling games.

Is that 40 hour maybe if you just shoot straight through the main story? Maybe it is stretched out if you do all the side quests, explore, etc.?

I play Fortnite almost exclusively, I’m bound to my iPad so I only play what’s on mobile. Love the game, hate the limitations of mobile. Building is the toughest aspect of the game. The top players in the world make it look effortless but they have everything either tied to a specific key on the keyboard or a button on a controller. And actually, all the top players are on computer, they might dabble with consoles but the frame rate on computers are geometrically better than anything else.

i don’t build, you pretty much can’t on mobile, at least not effectively so I rely on stealth or bum rushing the builders. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

The top players also get special perks from developers. One of the top NBA2K online guys basically ratted everyone out in a few youtube videos a year or so ago. Not only do the top gamers of these games get the game for free to advertise the game and they get paid by the Devs and get invited to all the gamer events but the Devs somehow rig the games so they get the best card in ultimate Teams for sports and best weapons armor in other games that are behind pay walls. This is falsely advertising what makes it look so effortlessly and easy to go get these in packs you pay for when its incredible rare. I played Ultimate team for awhile when it was first out. Was fairly good but stopped only because of work. However I may have played the equivalent of a year these games together and only got 2 cards that were considered amazing. Its more of the companies making gamers pump more money into the games so they can jutisfy making you pay for the stuff behind a paywall. Its why so many people boycotted the last Star Wars BF game.

This is no way me discrediting the best players in the world mind you. Just saying it's made easier for them by the Devs and companies of these games giving them an extra unfair advantage they don't really need. It's why I didn't buy COD the last few times. Sorry give me a campaign story mode. Don't play UT in sports games either. Just ends up costing you money in the end. I spend more time playing actual GM mode or Franchise mode in sports games then I do anything else. for FFPs I only buy standard and won't pre order anymore unless it's something worth it. Don't even buy season pass. For the most part I play the FFPs for story mode nothing else. I'm better off renting the game Also for games I trade one sports game in for another and then trade in my FPP games for more credit for the next game. I use to work at a GameStop and even the guys I worked with admitted the system of trading in and stuff sucks. You need to work the system to your advantage. I had my power up membership where you get 12 months of Game Informer Mag. I use my points I get for buying games each year on it. I had so many points with trade in I was able to get a $50 off coupon for my next game purchase. I spent in on the last BF and they essentially owed me money by the end of everything. Knew a poster on my old MLB,com forum that they shut down who use to work the system well. Saved a ton of money was Able to afford a bunch of games in the end.

It really is a plague on the industry. It makes a stupid amount of money for companies like EA and Activision to use these sleazy methods but it alienates the fan base. They literally make billions from people buying those cards on Madden and FIFA. It "mind bottling".

So don't expect them to stop any time soon. In fact they try to get this type of structure in every game they make now. Part of the amazing success that Apex is having despite it being an EA published game is that they were basically written off by EA execs as a failure before it began. They gave it no advertising and didn't even bother to microtranstaction the hell out of it... Yet. You know damn well the suits up top are salivating about how they can milk that cow now that they were wrong and it's become a hit.

52 hours into AC Odyessy, only 40% of the map revealed and 50% of the story complete. Still not bored. The story is amazing.
wow.  i think i sank around 45 and beat the game.  i was trying to get it done though.  killed all the cultists and legendary animals.  not much else extra

i am on the second play through with both.  really fun.

i tried hardcore and that was too hardcore for me.  like impossible.
Just have to understand how a zombie grabs. If you come upon them when they are standing up, you can run right through them. You can also make them lunge and then swoop around them to avoid. Hardcore is the same as standard just take more damage for each hit and less items around.

And no auto saves and have to use ribbons to save.  I really like the game but I'm not going to sink the time into hardcore.

Yep.Honestly I get paying for some stuff. I don't mind a season pass if you are getting stuff thats worth it that is not ready to be put out yet as a DLC. I like having more stuff added and it makes sense a season pass for hard work, but to put unlockables behind a paywall is just sleazy. Also it takes forever to level/power up in many of these games which is where the VC you buy with your own money comes in to level up more. NBA2k got #### on for the My career mode for making players use VC to get haircuts and Tats and clothes for their my player. It was such a backlash Ronnie2K announced during my Career mode reveal this past year 2k did away with VC to get a haircut and Tats and such. The system is still some what broken. but at least I don't have to use my VC for a new cut now.

Unfortunately theres so many stupid people out there that WILL PAY For these scummy tactics its sickening. The video I saw you should've seen the comments down below in denial of what this guy put it. So gullible. I recently came across a guy ####ting on GameStop and their tactics. It was funny because of what he complained about and remember I use to work at one so I knew exactly what he was trying to do and talk about. Either way he misread something in the customer agreement and tried blaming his local Gamestop for it. According to his side of the story the employees at that GS weren't really friendly either. A few people in the comments use to go to the one he went as he mentioned in the video and said his first wrong move was going there considering their negative history dealing with consumers. I made a comment to him explaining what the employee (If his side was true) should've told him why what he was doing wasn't possible. I explained I use to work for the company and this was the policy unless it was changed. I told him if he thought the employees were unprofessional he can go to the company website and file a complaint with corporate who would investigate for him. If he was right the Company within their rights can compensate him for his troubles. However I told him don't put all the fault on them even though they should've been more professional its not their fault you didn't understand the policy. I went into telling him why certain products especially sports games lose their value after a year to almost nothing. I suggested when trading in and all if not a PowerUp member to get one (It's only like $10 for the year GI for the year, double points of some games bought and double credit, coupons for free things and stuff off). It may sound like a scam but it's not. He needed to learn to work the system. I basically got crapped on for my suggestions and the youtube creater acted like I was defending the company. I just clapped back with it wasn't my fault or the companies fault you can't comprehend the material and just based on how he was acting it sounds more like he was trying to pull off the scam instead.

Just amazes me what some people will complain about with this stuff. Learn to cheat the system. If you don't know how to research it and ask people who will. Heck most GS employees will even give you word for word how to cheat the system if they've been there long enough and aren't a company suck up. My district had a ton of employees who helped customers cheat the system The guys at my store I don't work at still help me cheat the system. The SD was the one who recommended me using my Points for the $50 off coupon which helped. Besides downloading NHL19 on PS+ do to a great deal my last purchase before BF was Red Dead which was well worth it. Point of this topic is learn the rules and learn the loop holes. Learn how to cheat the system. I actually traded in the last AC game the greek one. It wasn't I didn't like it I loved it it was more the map was way too big. As part of trading that in when I did I got way more credit then had I waited 5 months later.

Loved the story but map was too big. I wasn't the only one who thought the map was way too big. On Read Dead 2 Midnight release about 10 guys were trading the game in already and RR2 came out I think a week after AC or so. A friend and I were asking people did they beat it and they were like nah dude I was tired of the map. it was way too big and with kids and or work I have no time and may not even be a year before I finish this thing. Storyline great but map was too big. I spent more time traveling then anything else in the game and I may have screwed up at one point too which F'd me in leveling up I think.

Im doing every ? so far :bag:

Keep in mind, I have no other games on my plate right now.
Ugh... I've got to finish AC:O (25 hours in), God of War (10 hours in), and Kingdom Hearts 3 (15 hours in).  And now Anthem is releasing.  Talk about first world problems, but FML, man.

Bruh, for real. I said this in here a few weeks back, I just finished AC Origins (like every single place/mark on the map, except the war elephants, #### that) about a month ago. I was working on that game almost exclusively, for 9 months. And now Odyssey comes out and I'm sitting here like, dude..... I'm never playing another Assassin's Creed ever again if their maps are gonna be this big. I was tired of it. Am tired of it. And I am a HUGE Ancient Egypt fan. Was my main draw to the game, I never played an AC before that. But it was just wayyy too freaking much for me.

Apex has completely sucked me in. What an experience! I haven’t even considered firing up Fortnite since, and that game has been my addiction for months now.

Download and play Apex. Do it now.

I wasn’t quite that burned out after finishing AC:O last fall, but I wasn’t (and still am not) ready to roll into a sequel offering up another 80 hours of the same thing. Maybe later this year or early next.

I just finished the same full completion for AC Origins and felt pretty much the same, enjoyed the story as much as any in the series and thought it was a pretty great leap to a more open world RPGish format.

Anyone do any of the Origins DLC, AC usually hasn't had the best DLC so I didn't bother to buy any of it, either of the two large ones worth it?

Played through Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy the last few months - I really enjoyed those two games. I seem to remember them getting some negative publicity when they were released, but I thought there were right there with some of the other titles in the series. And they didn’t rely on bullet sponge enemies in the endgame like the first three did, which was nice.

Then I started God of War, which I’m having a tough time getting into. The combat and crafting is more complicated than I really have patience for, and the story is good enough but is kind of a slow burn. Hopefully I’ll find it more engaging going forward.

I played the Hidden Ones. It was a good next chapter/extended epilogue that carried the plot forward from the main game.

Egypt was cool. I got into AC because of the Ancient Italy type stuff. When I first saw my brother playing the games I wasn't a fan as I only saw him doing the Desmond stuff but after seeing him play the other part it was interesting. I was disappointed with the Greek stuff but honestly if I have time over the summer I might just get AC Greece and try playing it.

That's how I play, too... check every corner of every cave, finish every task and quest. I finally got to 140+ hours and just finished, nowheres near 100%ing.

I'm still playing RE2. Been playing Hunk and Tofu challenge runs. They're pretty damn hard and funny.
I beat Claire A, Leon B, and Leon A, and I'm now about halfway through Claire B.  Capcom didn't do the world's greatest job in harmonizing the various scenarios, but I do like how Claire and Leon have different arsenals, and they remixed things just enough that A and B feel tangibly different, at least in the police department.  (The sewers and lab are definitely pretty samey).  After this I want to S-rank Claire A for the infinite handgun, which I'm sure I'll need on hardcore difficulty.

Yes that would be my biggest gripe with the game. Back in 98, you had limited technology and budget to do a proper sync between scenarios. Even with that, they made somethings connect like the platform elevator and such being down for one character and up for another.

There's really no excuse with the modern technology and budget for why they didn't storyboard A and B to be more synchronized. To have to do the same puzzles and the same bosses is a little immersion breaking.

Still a great game but brings it to a 9/10 for me instead of being perfect.

I loved Origins, but I understand the fatigue. I played well over 100 hours getting everything on the map because I wanted that platinum trophy. Was probably around 95% or so.

Then like a dumb ### I decided I wanted to switch out the fan on my PS4 pro because it was one of the really loud ones. Ended up bricking my console. :bag: So when I eventually replaced it, I load up the game and find that my save is not on the cloud. My PS4 was not my primary and I didn't realize that auto backup is only on primary. Ouch.

I really wanted to see the end of Origins, and I wanted to play all the DLC and end game stuff and get all that cool gear, but damn I just can't imagine starting over again. It is way too overwhelming for that.

I have no idea how you guys still play any of the AC games. I played the first two and I was over it. I’ve tried playing g a few more because people seem to love them but I just felt like it’s the same game over and over.

That's how I feel about most/all of the Ubisoft games.  Far Cry 3 was a blast, so I grabbed Far Cry 4 when it came out too and realized its basically the same game.  All of those games are the definition of "as wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle."  I guess they figure they throw enough junk for you to do, it'll seem different than the last one.

Yep. Same thing with me going. From FC2 to FC3. Stupid tower climbs!

I did get FC5 about a month ago cause I was Jonesing for some mindless FPS action but more because of the arcade feature (player created maps and scenarios). Absolute fantastic. I play with a buddy occasionally and we just do random maps and they are a blast.

I only played the SP enough tp unlock the arcade. Took almost an hour! One of my biggest pet peeves is stupid tutorials that are forced onto you. I love nothing more than being thrown into a sandbox with no hand holding but those games are super rare.

TL/DR - Far Cry 5 arcade mode is a blast with friends.

What do you need to play it? I've heard all the Fortnite players are jumping ship but all I have is an iPad Pro. Don't think Apex is out for mobile right?

They changed the game completely in the last two iterations. Its like a completely different game with RPG elements and better combat. Its basically a bigger version of the Witcher 3 now.

Any game where they are pushing it out every year or two is going to fall into the trap of being the same.  There is a reason why Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Diablo, etc. take multiple years between games.

A lot of the appeal for many (in my case, most of the appeal) is the historical tourism factor, which obviously changes game to game.

Yup. IMO, Origins is the greatest vision and recreation of Ancient Egypt ever completed, regardless of medium, be it movies, tv, etc. I'm sure the same is being said/thought right now for Odyssey in its recreation of Ancient Greece. Ubi Quebec really does a great job.

Finally arriving at the pyramids was an amazing feeling.

Given my recent obsession with everything Egypt maybe I should grab this at the next sale.

Totally understandable. But as shadyridr pointed out, they have altered the scope the last 2 iterations.

Me personally I'm not burned out on them because a lot of them I didn't play. I played the first Italy one, a little bit of one of the London ones (didn't really care for it), and then Origins. That's it. Almost seems like it's better to play every 3rd one or so, although I will break that rule and play the recent Greece one when it hits my price point.

I was browsing the PS and Xbox stores last night... almost positive it's on sale this week. Just about everything ubisoft is.
