Chris Baker played the whole year; Galloway was cut for non-performance (a bad pick-up for sure); Fred Taylor had not been hurt for a couple of seasons in his time share role with MJD; Shaun Springs was in the dog house as much as anything. All these players were signed for relatively short money. It is fair to say that three of the four players, excluding Baker, fulfilled the roles they were signed for but not solely because of injury.I thought it was the Pats philosphy to sign injury prone players who are way past their prime. See Fred Taylor, Chris Baker, Joey Galloway, and Shaun Springs.IIRC the Niners used to have this same philosophy under Walsh.I've read that the Pats have a philosophy that it is better to cut bait a year or two early than lock a guy in for a bunch of years and have him underperform.
