News and Notes
Jasper Brinkley steps in at MLB for EJ Henderson. Ben Leber will take Henderson’s spot in the nickel packages, though Chad Greenway will take on Henderson’s blitzing duties in subpackages.
Lance Briggs and Hunter Hillenmeyer were both practicing fully Thursday and Friday. Lovie Smith has said Jamar Williams earned more playing time; beat writers suggested that it could come at MLB. There’s been no formal announcement of a lineup change yet.
Akeem Jordan is back for Philadelphia this week. The coaches wouldn’t commit to this week’s linebacker rotation. Jordan may rotate in at WLB with Witherspoon and work back into playing shape or he could take the base defensive WLB snaps with Witherspoon moving back to the middle.
Michael Johnson and Aaron Ross are both expected to play safety this week. There may be a four headed rotation (with Aaron Rouse and CC Brown), or Johnson and Ross could see the bulk of the snaps.
Injuries
Robert Mathis and Clint Session are both questionable for today’s game. Session practiced fully Thur/Fri, Mathis was back to a full practice Friday. Both seem likely to play.
Terrell Suggs has been back to practice this week, but his post-practice comments aren’t very reassuring. If he’s active, he’ll probably play only a handful of snaps. Ed Reed also looks likely to miss today’s game.
Mario Williams is back on the injury report, this time with a groin injury. He was limited in practice all week, listed questionable, but expected to play.
David Thornton is listed questionable with his hip problem. No specific word on whether his missed practice was rest or a sign of another setback.
Brandon Flowers has a shoulder injury, was added to the injury report on Thursday and is questionable to play.
Tyler Brayton is out today with a concussion, Charles Johnson is questionable with a chest injury (but fully practiced all week). Everette Brown continues to get more playing time and should again see a significant number of snaps this week.
Ernie Sims is listed probable this week, but was limited in practice all week. His presence could affect the playing time of DeAndre Levy, but Levy’s recent play would seem to have earned him the vast majority of the defensive snaps.
Tracy Porter was back at practice – limited all week – but is listed doubtful. Randall Gay should be back today. Malcolm Jenkins probably starts over Mike McKenzie.
Jonathan Babineaux is questionable with a shoulder injury and was limited all week. He was also arrested this week. The Falcons wouldn’t say whether he’d be active this week.
Adalius Thomas is going to be inactive this week. Ty Warren and Tully Banta-Cain have been limited with injury all week.
Tyrell Johnson is unlikely to play today (concussion). Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin are both questionable and were limited all week. Both are expected to play.
