I can't enter a Trump thread without comments making it personal. I can agree with 90 percent, but that 10 percent is always attacked as either trolling or ridiculous/stupid or just parroting Fox. Shoot, even liberal who aren't on the Trump-hating bandwagon get dumped upon. Of course there are a handful who don't, but they are in the minority.

Unfortunately the 2016 election has put our country in a position where no matter how you feel about Trump, if you consider yourself a Republican or a Conservation you get lumped in with him even if you didn't vote for him and you disagree with him. And while I don't see how anybody can defend him and what's he's done I do feel bad for the good conservative posters on here who have to deal with that. There's a lot of people on both sides who immediately think less of people on the other side - its disheartening. I'm not that old but I've always felt like we were Americans first in decades gone by - now, it seems like politics have gotten as bad as college football rivalries or maybe even worse. And for the record, this works both ways. People who supported Hillary (or in my case Bernie) also get lumped in together as "the enemy" of folks on the right or labelled as anti-Trump.

Hi Joe, thanks again for your involvement and tbh I wasn't really expecting a response.
I was trying to have discourse with Waterworld, and if they're interested any of the Trump supporters who really (really) feel affronted by let's say what they perceive as the unfair the tenor of the board. At least in this thread.
My original post was just something I thought would help clear the air. In 2015-16 things got quite contentious. Different camps rush-posted other threads (Trump folks went into the Bernie thread, liberal/progressive folks wouldn't leave Trump folks' basic campaign-boosterism alone without criticism, etc,). At least 2-3 threads got locked, I know one thread got deleted, I think HellToupee deleted his own thread which was a pretty great old thread from the Romney campaign. The first Russia investigation thread went bye-bye. Some people got banned, some did not come back. And I think there are residual hard feelings about that.
On the one hand I think the Trump related news cycle is unique. There are seemingly earth-shaking news stories about the guy daily to weekly. Trump fans feel it's 'hysterical. On the other hand I think Trump supporters (or even people like Jon who feel they are trying to be skeptical, calm, neutral/objective) feel singed from the criticism they get from suggesting that 'hey maybe in x instance' Trump did not do wrong. Really unfortunately I think Trump gives really bad facts to work with. It's not like defending Bush or Obama or the Clintons, defending Trump (even out of say fairness) seems like impossible work to me, but I get and appreciate that some are trying to do right. The Trump fans though I think it would help if they explained what they believe better and start building things back up. I dunno, I guess I've rambled.

It's a tough one for sure. I know most of my friends who are Trump supporters don't really know what to do. It's a tough spot for them. When i try to put myself in their shoes, I'm not sure what I'd do.

Main difference imo is Twitter and Facebook exposing people's immature inabilities to properly treat someone who has a different view. Hi, long time no talk. I would say that is because I received a 30 day suspension for God knows what (Sorry Jesusguys, but God should know and doesn’t in this case), but that seems a bit childish. What it might be, and bear with me here, is that you show up every July and randomly suspend people because you realize you have a business to run. Cool. I’ve always been respectful of that, in fact I sent you a Christmas PM for countless years until you just stopped responding. Then I realized you are only here in July, so I need to send you an X-Mas card as soon as my suspension is lifted so it’ll be fresh!
So let’s look deeper into that. I’ve been a paying member for a decade+, I always pay. Not for that fantasy football advice, the game is mostly luck and what you offer can be had for free at a dozen sites. No, I get a membership to support these boards, a home away from home for me while I lived overseas and was forward deployed to ####holes like Afghanistan. I enjoy the IronSheiks, Tufnels. Furleys, Tres, and JZillas of the world and have had a chance to meet many in person.
So for years most of those guys and me followed the rules. Then you stopped coming around except in July, this year with a manifesto of all things. I would take you seriously but you’ve shown about as much love for this forum in recent years as Kathy Lee Gifford shows for an O’Douls. I understand, you’re busy. But I know for a fact that guys like Maurile, Rude, and Clayton could administer the board. But they can’t because of your inconsistent presence and your quick trigger to go scorched earth without any kind of context.
I get suspended every July. Why? Because someone reports a Dr D post and JB just happens along and zaps me (and I’m not the only one this happens to). Now I could have reported the ten posts that led up to that, but that’s not worth my time nor the time of the mods at this forum.
You allowed dfsguy and his aliai to absolutely destroy every single political thread for six months. You weren’t here though, so you missed all that. A certain heavy-handed liberal poster who likes pigeons and twitter is equally as destructive, but that’s ok because he follows your direction of reporting every post possible he finds outside his political leanings. Congratulations for showing up three times a year to encourage his behavior, I’m sure it has been a boon for boat sales.
I am out of line sometimes, I admit it. Mostly this is in threads you’ll never go in and people with thick skin save me from self-destruction. So I press on and have always tried to post content and critical thinking. At the same time a moron is a moron, and although this forum has a small percentage of those, they exist. Spammers, trollers, disrespectful jerks who are only here to elicit a negative reaction. I react, say some unkind things, then often pull back and realize I over-reacted. I’m an emotional sort, someone who realizes when I’ve wronged or myself disrespected another poster or your board.
I’ve told you many times to just send me a note and tell me I’m a jerk, and I’ll right my ship. I have been suspended for more than a week twice in 16 years IIRC, I can adjust fire quite quickly.
But you aren’t here, and when you are you stop by to suspend people without context. We all can live by your rules, whatever they are, if you are consistent. You Sir have been tragically inconsistent, especially over the past five years. You shouldn’t have to start this thread but you need to realize that you are most responsible for the forum devolving into whatever it is you don’t like about it now.
So I’m back August 1st, or not if you choose to permanently ban me. All I ask for is some consistency and maybe a

A PM saying knock it off would be very effective and less likely to piss off a paying customer. What did we do , type a naughty word or responded to a trolls trigger . A warning shot across the bow would solve an issue so much more better than a 30 suspension.

Looking at the log, it was 30 days for a nobody likes you here and you're dumb post against another poster.
Added to it is I don't know of any poster who's been over the line more than you and is still here.
That's a testament to how we like you and you can bring good stuff. Obviously you're smart and a talented writer. But the bullying posters is something we don't want to have. That's not trigger finger or scorched earth. That's how we're going to try and moderate the board. I know we've been inconsistent there in the past. I apologize for that and that was a main point in the guideline.
For what it's worth, I don't know who pays for an Insider PRO subscription here. And it does not earn anyone special privilege or consideration.
Much of what you wrote is stuff we're trying to address with me writing the guideline manifesto thing. We're trying to do much better there.
I've unsuspended your account and you're welcome to post again. But please stay within the guidelines. That's something you've been unable to do in the past but please let this be a new start for you. As I said, you bring good stuff to the board and we like you here. But it has to be within the guidelines. Thanks.

By analogy to Joe and Detroit, that would have involved Brady accepting the suspension and then pleading his way into a reduction afer he started serving it...say by having Gronk drop a letter off at Goodell's office.

Easiest retort is he saved us from President Hillary. Deflects Trump's boorish behavior and allows the speaker to fill in every worse case scenario that Hillary "would have done".
I tried for 8 years to get people to see how ridiculous political discourse had become. It's just so stupid to lump together all of the elected officials and all of the voters of a particular party and feel that they are just a bunch of mustache twirling villains ready to destroy the country. How can reasonable people not see how crazy that is? I always felt we'd hit a moment of epiphany where we'd collectively say "what the hell are we doing?" and find a more positive outlet for our energy.
Continuously educate yourself. Love and protect your family. Make friends with your neighbors. Show kindness and respect to strangers. Be charitable when you can. You can make a much greater impact on the world on both the micro and macro levels by doing those things, rather than getting put on tilt because of politics.
With that said, can we NOT turn this into a political thread? TIA

@Joe Bryant - Is this emo ok? Seems like its straddling the proverbial line, maybe circumventing the language filter? I just want to make sure before using it again
Thanks @Arodin We've looked at things like some way to designate beta testers or people who play in the Footballguys Players Championship and such but every time I wind back up at what you're worried about and just making it more of a divisive thing so I haven't done it.
