My league is a bit more Libertarian.
We did, however, ban all elevator handrails.

http://youtu.be/Q5UG7ISJfP0?t=37sI believe everyone should be judged exclusively by the worst thing they have ever done. It makes it much easier for me to be a misanthrope that way.
No, I'd blame Obama for creating a nanny state that made people so soft that they'd kill themselves over such a thing. So seriously, how would you feel if, in Ray Rice's suicide note, he stated that he couldn't live in a world where he was banned from a fantasy league?
Would you feel bad for pushing him over the edge?
This is just silly.toppshelff said:I sent this message to the league this evening:
"League,
As I got off the plane today and went online, I was deeply shocked by the video that was released of Ray Rice and his then-fiancee. As a father of 2 girls, I will not stand for any domestic abuse of the sort I saw. It was deeply disturbing, especially to see them together still (and now married) afterwards.
I quickly talked to Tom, who owns Ray Rice in our league, and we both immediately agreed that Tom would drop Ray Rice, and I would take the Executive Action of banning Ray Rice from our league forever. He can not be picked up this season, he can not be drafted next season, nor any season afterwards. From here on, he does not exist in our league.
I have no qualifications to suggest this, but if you are being abused, or know of anyone being abused, contact the police or a women's group that can help the abused get out of the situation. If you have ever hit a woman in your life in anger or frustration, please get counseling so that it doesn't progress further, and never raise your hand again.
I know that I'm stretching the authority of my position here, but I hope that you will be understanding and supportive. And I applaud Tom for being completely aligned and supportive, despite the hole this scumbag has left in Tom's team."
I also ask, if anybody on this forum knows how to delete a player from MFL, please let me know.
Executive action? toppshelf and Tom, wait.. couldn't you just place him on double secret probation and then have a league executive board vote in the offseason to determine future action?toppshelff said:I quickly talked to Tom, who owns Ray Rice in our league, and we both immediately agreed that Tom would drop Ray Rice, and I would take the Executive Action of banning Ray Rice from our league forever. I'll admit I'm one of those people. Once I saw the video yesterday I was disgusted and totally had a different POV on it. I guess until you actually see it, you don't know what exactly happened. Seeing it drove it home for me. The scary thing to me was his demeanor after he did it. Like it was natural for him. No remorse. Didn't say "oh god...what have I done?". Just seemed like he was bothered with having to DRAG her out of the elevator. There's one thing I don't understand....why the huge outcry now that we saw him do it when we knew all along what he did? Why does seeing him do it change anything?
Don't get me wrong, he's a scumbag, but I don't understand the sudden uproar from the league and fans.
Hearing about Ray Rice knocking out his fiance and dragging her out of an elevator? 2 game ban.
Seeing Ray Rice knock out his fiance and drag her out of an elevator? Ban for life.
I asked the same thing yesterday in another Rice thread. I just don't get it. Everyone in America knew exactly what he did but because we get a video clip it suddenly means more? Like I said yesterday, tell me a person raped a woman and I don't need to watch it happen to understand the magnitude of it. It is the same deal. We knew he hit this woman. There's one thing I don't understand....why the huge outcry now that we saw him do it when we knew all along what he did? Why does seeing him do it change anything?

I think the issue is whether seeing it has now permanently changed the way you view domestic violence, or whether you are simply susceptible to allowing your emotions to color your sense of outrage and justice and maybe even right vs. wrong. That isn't an attack on you. It's a question we all need to ask ourselves.I'll admit I'm one of those people. Once I saw the video yesterday I was disgusted and totally had a different POV on it. If you had to see it once to realize how bad it is but you now take it more seriously than previously, then that isn't a bad thing. But if you don't treat the next incident as seriously because there may not be video, that's a real problem.
I think you also need to be careful about looking for remorse immediately after. That's an unrealistic expectation and one you won't see in any domestic violence situation. Again, if the video informed you of what domestic violence in the general sense is like, it isn't a bad thing. But if you think, say, that Daryl Washington might have immediately expressed remorse and you therefore give him the benefit of the doubt because there wasn't video of his incident, then that's a bad thing. Rice's incident isn't unusual at all in that regard.
Slightly off-topic, the wife needs some counseling as well. She also was acting very aggressive and arguably initiated physical contact. It's wrong for a man AND it's wrong for a woman. Now, Rice certainly wasn't in fear of his safety and therefore wasn't justified in claiming self-defense. But it does look to me like a case where both parties are very comfortable with aggressive, physical confrontation. I dare say that many of us would pull a complete 180 and side with Rice had that been a slight built guy who was arguing with Rice and then lunged at him and spit on him. And that's a problem.
Very well put!You are way over-playing this hand. The fact this thread about banning a player FROM FANTASY ROSTERS who we knew hit a woman in February and are now in an outrage just because you saw the video now is at 3 pages says all you need to say about this topic.
I am more disgusted about the dramatic FAKE outrage then I am at the video, why?
Because I, using my brain and common sense and stuff, could guess what a KO blow which would result in someone being dragged from an elevator would look like.
yea, worth it for the schtick aloneI saw that. I can't wait for the ensuing schtick if Rice comes back considering who you traded with. So worth that 5th rder.comfortably numb said:i traded for Rice today
This is a good one... BAN HIM!!And Dez Bryant hit his mom - are you going to allow that in your league? Seems like a dangerous message to be sending...

Guaranteed garbage with every post.Same for me. I can't believe the people that don't understand why it's more impactful actually seeing it.I'll admit I'm one of those people. Some people are very visual and need to see things to actually grasp the magnitude of it. The fact that they didn't see and only heard about it is almost like it didn't happen to them. It's clear that you and a lot of other people are very visual people.Same for me. At a personal level--of course. But at an institutional level, personal impact shouldn't be considered.Same for me. I can't believe the people that don't understand why it's more impactful actually seeing it.
In what way has the response been excessive? He knocked a woman out cold. That warrants a strong response from anyone. You would think Ray Rice killed someone if you read these threads or watch the media.
:IBTL:Next you're going to come up with a clever reason for Jason to cut Calvin Johnson. I like the way you think......
