Wealth inequality, you okay with it? (1 Viewer)

Sure.  Wealth isn't a zero-sum proposition.  The fact that Jeff Bezos is really, really rich doesn't make anybody else poorer.

(Poor people enjoy higher standards of living thanks to Jeff Bezos, which makes this argument doubly-strange).
This is just an ignorant statement with zero facts to back it up.

The point is that the government is serving the interests of the ultra wealthy and corporations and they should be serving the interests of 99% of us. It’s not about demonizing Bezos or anyone else. There should be a tax code that makes sense, for starters. It’s unbelievable to me that people can’t see the Tax Bill for what is was. Wealth is good. Extremely concentrated wealth in a few thousand households and then a government that works for their interests isn't how is should be.

I most likely don't agree with your overall worldview, but this is a good argument that moves the discussion forward.

Wealth inequity is a great thing.  It provides the incentives for people to succeed and accomplish great things.  The US has accomplished great things because of it.   But there needs to be some balance.  Probably the biggest problem is we allow  income to be sheltered in the form of ownership in stocks which can grow to huge sums of wealth without any taxation.

The issue is the extreme level of inequality not inequality itself.

Exactly. I wonder how many jobs they have created?
How many jobs did they also destroy? It’s not a zero sum game and I do think these “captains of industry” do have a positive impact but they also have negative impacts. Balance is important. In general mostly new businesses are the ones creating jobs. Existing companies tend to be job destroyers.
