Any updates on Morris and Jordan this week Yudkin?

With the short week, one would think Jordan and Morris will be questionable at best....but who knows.

I had heard that Morris was a consideration for this week. I don't know about Jordan, but he has done so little this year that I would suggest that he would be low man on the totem pole unless they had no one else.Mike Reiss had this on Maroney today (not that you asked) . . .

Running back Laurence Maroney, prior to signing autographs for fans tonight at the Reebok Store at Patriot Place, indicated he was "just getting started" on a nine-month plan to "get stronger" and "get better." On Oct. 20, Maroney was placed on season-ending injured reserve because of his shoulder. While guarding details of his injury and not disclosing if he's had surgery, Maroney said he first hurt himself during the team's Sept. 14 win over the Jets, and hinted that the injury lingered before reaching a breaking point against the 49ers on Oct. 5. As for the "issues" he had talked about on Oct. 3, he said those were solely football-related.
Not sure what on earth takes 9 months to get better from (unless he's pregnant).

Morris was at practice today in a knee brace. The Pats had a light practice/walkthrough today, so I'm not sure what that means for his participation on Thursday night.

Sounds like hes talking about a program to try to change his build and reduce the chance of injury further.

David, now that BB is Skeletor v2.0 in regards to his backfield, do you think Green-Ellis continues to see 20+ carries/week, going forward, or do they work yet another massive RBBC into the fold?

Green-Ellis has had 20 carries once. No one else this year has had 20 carries. I'm guessing last week was a fluke. I don't see anyone winning a regular (ie big)workload out of this situation, so I still see a RBBC from here on out unless some of the backs go on IR. I'm beginning to think Jordan is pretty much a non-factor.

David I am going to start by saying that I am thankful for all the effort you put into keeping us as informed about the Patriots situation as you can you do have information that can not be found anywhere. Having said that I have to disagree with your prediction on Green-Ellis. I think that the Patriots are going to give him another week like last week to control the clock and keep the Jets Offense off the field. I see an even split again between Faulk and Ellis again this week with Ellis getting about 20 carries 80 yards and a TD this week.I have no insider information just a gut feeling and from having watched him over the past 4 weeks devolop into a solid option.

I took the question to mean (or ask) if BJGE would get 20 carries a week from here on out. I doubt any NE RB will do that this year every week. I agree that the Pats probably will try to play keep away from the Jets given the Pats injuries on both sides of the ball. BJGE could see the majority of carries again this week, but if Morris does come back this week I don't see BJGE getting a shot to hit 20 carries.Sadly, I think we may be at the point with NE that BB will ride the hot hand (whomever that may be).

I agree that BB will ride the hot hand, but I will say that I have been impressed with BJGE and what he has shown this season. Here is my question for you, and I know it is way to early to tell, but I am guessing that Jordan will not be with the team next season and I am thinking that this is the final season for Morris too, how do you seeing the offseason playing out?

I asked about this and was told two things . . .1) It's too early to make any summary judgments.2) The Pats will properly kick the tires on any RBs that are available but they probably won't be all that aggressive.Basically, it sounds like they will look for some established players willing to take short term deals for not a lot of money. Kevin Jones immediately comes to mind as a target, but I'm not sure Jones would want low dollars and a 1-year deal.

Ricky Williams is a FA and immed. comes to mind.Obvious risk with him, but IMO that would keep the price reasonable and RW could be very productive and BB has been known to take on these challenges..............ala Corey DillonWho knows, with Brady hopefully expected back next season, they could be the offense of old and RW might see that as his best option at a Superbowl.

The topic of the BJGE's future, as asked about earlier, was asked in a Q&A with M. Reiss today, fwiw.

How much info do you have on Green-Ellis, other than the stats that are always talked about? Like, how did he perform at the combine? Also, do you think his success has much to do with our offensive line and style of play? I ask because he never looks all that dynamic compared to other back with similar stats. When Maroney was on, he looked blazing fast and could make people miss and be gone in a hurry. Then you have guys like Sammy Morris who just run you over. Green-Ellis hasn't looked much like either guy, but he keeps scoring, and rarely is caught behind the line of scrimmage. Do you think he has enough upside that he could be a feature back in the future, or is he simply getting big holes and lowering the shoulder?

Rick, Lowell

A: Rick, I looked back at some notes on Green-Ellis and he ran in the 4.6s at the NFL Combine. That basically explains why he wasn't drafted, because the top backs are usually in the 4.4s or better. In terms of Green-Ellis's style, I think he's more of a physical runner, sort of Corey Dillon-esque. It's no-frills but powerful. I think some of his runs are a result of his patience and vision, while others are aided by the line/tight ends/fullbacks opening nice creases. I do think he's a viable option to be a big part of a rotation at running back in the future. A feature back seems a bit strong at this point.

Rickey Williams is locked up through the end of the 2009 season. They hashed out that deal prior to the season starting.

Here is the Patriots' injury report from today's practice:

For the Patriots, running back LaMont Jordan (calf), cornerback Lewis Sanders (hamstring), linebacker Adalius Thomas (forearm), and cornerback Terrence Wheatley (wrist) did not practice. Running back Sammy Morris (knee), guard Stephen Neal (knee), defensive end Ty Warren (groin), and linebacker Eric Alexander (hamstring) participated on a limited basis.

My guess is that if he continues to put up numbers similar to what he has done so far for the balance of the season the Patriots will attempt to move Maroney and will keep Green-ellis. Like it was stated above the guy has almost always made possitive yards when he touched the ball and with Brady back and teams focusing on the pass he will have even more lanes to run through.I have been watching him when he is in on passing downs and he had done a good job of pass blocking when asked to.

I doubt that the injury reports will tell us much this week. We already know Jordan and Morris are banged up. And I doubt the Pats will have a rigorous practice tomorrow. If ever BB would limit information on players, it would be in a short week against the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.I'll see what I can drudge up tomorrow . . .
