at what point does callahan realize that tui gives the raiders a better chance to win than does gannon?i would have pulled gannon after the 1st quarter of this game (week 3). we'll see how long it takes callahan to see the light.al davis does not like to be embarrassed. callahan may not make it through the season. seriously. This is like I've timewarped back to the late 80s / early 90s and am watching some of the most horrid Raider teams to ever take the field.A complete implosion. The only hope for us Raider fans is that Denver's offence gets really tired from being out on the field for so long. It's obvious that Jerry Rice and Tim Brown just aren't fast enough anymore to get open deep downfield, and there is no need to stack the box because the Raiders run O is virtually non-existent.I have to agree - -at some point, put Tui, Fargas, and Teyo out there and see what they can do, and start retooling for next week. This is going to be a long season....
Since he didn't head off to the locker room early for treatment, I'd say chances are he's still able to play if needed. Looks like he/Shanny opted him out, more than anything.Let's say that the Raiders score once or twice in the third, do you think Portis will come back in?
first family guy rules...just got season 3 at amazon..second quite possibly...if the raiders score three tds in the third..yah, he'll be back if he canLet's say that the Raiders score once or twice in the third, do you think Portis will come back in?
I was thinking about this earlier - -callahan just doesn't seem to bring fire and passion to this team like Chuckie used to. He kind of just adopted the system, tweaked the two tight end set with more slants and outs, but I don't get the feeling this Raider team really responds to him, or to Gannon anymore.I wouldnt be surprised if Davis shakes the team up by bringing in another coach, but that risks even more disruption to an incredibly disrupted team so far.at what point does callahan realize that tui gives the raiders a better chance to win than does gannon?i would have pulled gannon after the 1st quarter of this game (week 3). we'll see how long it takes callahan to see the light.al davis does not like to be embarrassed. callahan may not make it through the season.
Why do you constantly blame Gannon? He is worlds better than Tuiasuckopo, the problem is the 50 year old receivers, do you really expect them to get open against speedy DBs who are half their age? How can Gannon be effective when he only has TEs to throw to? Looking old...huh....kiss my a@#. Intimidating, you got that one right. We are having problems but I will find a solution soon. By the way, I am up in my suite drinking 100 year old scotch master minding a new strategy that includes getting my youth on the field and rebuilding this year. I will finally admit it, we had our shot but now is time to acclimate the new blood. Age=loss of speed, not talent, speed kills ageWow Al Davis looking old but he still looks intimidating in that weird kinda way... I think Porter is just this important to this offense. When he gets back he is gonna have to prove he can get down field and catch some balls.
TOUCHDOWN MILITARY MIKE!!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Going against the Portis owner....Raiders are getting their butt kicked....Life is Good!!!!!I am really enjoying this!!
You have a point about the receivers, and though Jerry Porter is just one man, he did create a deep route threat that opens up the defence in a way that made the Raiders passing game, based on 4+ route receivers, so effective last year. But to think that Al Davis is wishing he had Gruden back is insane. That trade brought in $8 mil and solidified the Raiders draft positions in the last couple of years -- something that was desperately needed for the very reason that their team is aging.Because of gruden departing, the Raiders have a lot of young talent to develop on their squad - -they should start right now by letting them play. Why do you constantly blame Gannon? Yeah, he's out.did rod smith get thrown out - where's he been since the penalty?
I blame Gannon because he is indecisive in the pocket this year. I blame Gannon because he has missed wide open receivers time in and time out in the 3 games. I blame Gannon for sitting back in the pocket because of his indecisiveness and constantly taking more sacks than he did last year. How do you know he's worlds better than Tui this year? You don't. I don't. Nobody does. But Gannon's horrid play has earned Tui the chance to prove that he can take this offense somewhere. What would it hurt to have Tui play in the second half of this game to prove something? There are only so many open recievers that Gannon can miss until something has to give.I also blame Callahan for not even attempting to run the ball with Oakland's best weapon this year, Garner. They also have Fargas and to a lesser extent Wheatley and Crockett. If the Raiders can't throw the ball consistently they need to mix it up.And finally I blame Callahan in losing the Raiders' focus in just over a year and having them being the undisciplined team they were before Gruden came along. At least the Raiders play the Chargers twice and the AFC and NFC North divisions this year. Why do you constantly blame Gannon? He is worlds better than Tuiasuckopo, the problem is the 50 year old receivers, do you really expect them to get open against speedy DBs who are half their age? There is a separate thread dedicated to Portis........you may want to check it out.Gee, Portis sure looked to be in pain. What a warrior.
Anderson can handle that tailback position just fine. They don't need Portis. It doesn't seem to matter who runs for Denver, they always play well. Bobby HumphriesT. DavisO. GaryM. AndersonC. PortisM. Andersonsomething about that offense. I'd like to see Fred Taylor put up some numbers in that offense. Or Deuce McAlister, or S. Alexander.. Not sure you could say the same if you put Portis on their teams. We'll never know.Let's say that the Raiders score once or twice in the third, do you think Portis will come back in?
Good, I stepped away when that all happened - I was up 15 in my home $$ league and the guy had Rod Smith, so I had to sweat it out a little. Thanks boys!Yeah, he's out.
Thank god, Al is here! I still believe in you, Big Al - -always have, all through the LA years, even when you got rid of Mr. Raider Marcus Allen (who subsequently tore us up on many occasaions as a Chief).I wish I had one tenth of your football acumen, your business savvy, and your eye for leisure wardrobe. Now, fire up this team and get Romo scrapping out there!Looking old...huh....kiss my a@#. No. He was in there on the last play.Is Garner done for the night?:notwatchinggame:
Doesn't matter...Gannon wouldn't be able to complete it anyways.I don't own him, but do the Raiders ever throw to Brown anymore?
gannon overthrew a td pass to him today.I don't own him, but do the Raiders ever throw to Brown anymore?
Do you mean NEAR Brown or TO him? They don't actually throw TO receivers any more.I don't own him, but do the Raiders ever throw to Brown anymore?
I disagree with this. I've seen plenty of times this year (and 2-3 times this game) where Rice/Brown have had a step on the defender....only to see Gannon get happy feet and throw it over their heads. wtf is Gannon doing this year? It's obvious that Jerry Rice and Tim Brown just aren't fast enough anymore to get open deep downfield,
it was actually marc trestman, but who really cares at this point.Gannon yelling at Callahan.Priceless.
Really? Maybe on slants and ins designed to get them in front of the defender or across the middle, but they are pretty well covered downfield. You may be right in that they are physically capable in getting a step on defenders, but I think the trouble for them really lies in gaining separation in the bump and run.I hope Lisa asks Gannon a stupid question tonight -- I'd love to see him scream at her.I disagree with this. Would have been an INT if he'd thrown it to Brown (he was double covered). Would have been an INT if Brown could have broken away from the coverage (no speed).Gannon does not go from one of the best in the league to bench material in a year, this rests solely on the shoulders of the Raiders featuring aging receivers and the misfortune of Jerry Porter succumbing to injury.I don't care what you Raiderfans think of Gruden, and I don't care about the future. If the Raiders have Gruden they have the 2003 superbowl trophy in their office for 2 reasons1) He isn't willing the Bucs to a victory they weren't worthy of without him2) He is willing the Raiders to win and bringing the MUCH needed disciplinegannon overthrew a td pass to him today.
I don't think it's B&W either way. Haven't been all that impressed with either end of the battery thus far.Gannon does not go from one of the best in the league to bench material in a year, this rests solely on the shoulders of the Raiders featuring aging receivers and the misfortune of Jerry Porter succumbing to injury.
From what I've seen Brown/Rice are tightly covered within 5-10 yards...so yes, they can't get the separation off the line....but once they get downfield they have been open. Problem is Gannon hasn't had a lot of time this year to wait for them to get open and when he does have the time he's overthrowing them. This year when Gannon feels the rush...watch his feet....he gets happy feet, rubber necks all over the field and immediately checks down to the shorter routes. Last year, he was able to avoid the rush, buy some time, watch the WR get open downfield and make the throw. This year is a totally different story.I thought sandbagger was being a little too critical of Gannon and a little premature in calling for Tui....but I'm coming around. Forget Tui in 2004....bring in him now.Really? Maybe on slants and ins designed to get them in front of the defender or across the middle, but they are pretty well covered downfield. brown had a step on both those defendersand regarding last year, we'll never know if gruden would have got them there. tampa bay was the only nfc team that could have beaten the raiders last year because of gruden. i still say you make that trade to get something for gruden if davis wasn't willing to pay gruden what he was worth (i disagree with that, but since gruden was going to leave anyway you have to get something for him).there's no way you can say that the raiders would have a super bowl victory. too many extemporaneous factors to calculate.Would have been an INT if he'd thrown it to Brown (he was double covered).
