Welker and Stallworth - Top 250 Going Forward (1 Viewer)

Why the heck is Welker ranked so low in the top 250 going forward and why is Stallworth ranked so high? Welker is ranked nearly 10 spots lower than Stallworth?

because its one man's speculation and not anything you should hang your hat on

but yeah you are right.. stallworth ranked too high, welker too low..

It's value going forward. The weather is going to get worse, the running game will be relied upon more, and Welker and Stallworth are role players in an offense that spreads the ball around. One week they can go off, one week they can go 4-40.

I agree they are about equal in my book, in fact I think welker will put up more consistant numbers for the rest of the year.

Probably only because Stallworth is "#2" and Welker is "#3," and traditionally, there is a big gap in numbers between those two receivers.

Thus far, however, that doesn't seem to mean much in the Patriots offense, considering their propensity to use three wide-receiver sets. It has been said before, but the only factors cutting into either player's production will be weather and the eventual return of Ben Watson.

Weather should not impact Welker, since he catches the short stuff. As far as I can tell he should far well against the better teams the Pats play because there will be more dump offs to be had. Especially while Watson remains out. If your league gives points for return yards, Welker is almost a must start every week IMO.

in my league, which rewards return points, Welker is the #3 WR overall. Only behind Moss and Housh.

he's a must start in traditional leagues.

:D

Defenses can only take away so much. They have to choose whether they want to give up 40 yard chunks to Moss / Stallworth...or 15 yard chunks to Welker and the TE's.

In PPG formats...I think Welker is a must start.

HE'S A TOP 5 RECEIVER SO FAR.What f'ing league is he not a starter every week in?

well, only top 10 in ppg, but still

Watson is the key here. Watson >>>>>>>> Kyle Brady. Brady has caught a couple TDs, he has only 5 receptions in 3 games since Watson got hurt. Here are Welker's break downs:

Weeks 1-5 Per Game (Watson got 1 target/got hurt early in the Week 6 Dallas game):

5.4 receptions, 52.4 yards and 0.2 TDs

Weeks 6-8 Per Game

9.7 receptions, 117 yards and 1.6 TDs

Let's look at Watson's Week 1-5 numbers:

3.4 receptions, 38.8 yards and 1 TD

Kyle Brady and Dave Thomas have not picked up any of Watson's slack, it has all gone to Welker IMO. Now, Welker has done even better, but I think that is because Brady had his best 3 weeks in Weeks 6-8 as well.

The one game that really stands out in my mind is Week 5 when Watson was 6-107-2TDs and Welker was 4-19-0. Watson's best week was Welker's worst. I think that was the game where Watson was starting to take over the underneath/dump off type stuff at Welker's expense, before he got hurt.

Anyway, I could be completely off, but I think it is interesting that Welker's Week 6-8 are just above Watson+Welker Weeks 1-5 and might even be perfectly matched if we look at Brady's numbers which were higher in 6-8 than 1-5. When Watson comes back, I would not be at all surprised to see Welker's numbers fall off and in any big games by Watson, I could see Welker having very bad numbers.

We have a Bingo here. Once Watson returns, Welker will cool off, and have some slower weeks also, but ride him until Ben returns :P

The top 250 forward is a joke. In any kind of PPR format Welker is a top 10, if not top 5 WR the rest of the year. Even in no PPR he's probably top 15-20. Has been all year

I like the way Stallworth plays the game.

I know he is an injury risk, but dude has some sweet moves.

Having said that, I rank Welker slightly ahead of Stallworth.
