Thanks for all the help and leading me too Kodi.   Nothing like having all the PPV movies at your disposal for nothing.   Picture is not as clear but oh well.   Will be lurking here from now on.  Thanks!  :thumbup:

I'm talking about using your phone as a remote.  There's a ann app called Kore which enables you to do that.  It uses wifi so there's nothing additional needed hardware wise.   It works very well.

I don't have a smart phone.  But that is pretty cool.

I have it installed on my Surface so that goes with me where ever I go typically that I could watch something.

Whoo Hoo, Success.   :pickle:   I'll be trying the video method for the next update.  

Most tv shows should be 720P or better.  The movies can vary.  The reason why is because whatever version of the movie is available out there will be listed until a better version comes along.   If you see a movie in Exodus that is brand new in theaters it's most likely a video camera copy of the movie in really bad resolution.  If it's out on DVD anywhere (DVDs get leaked all the time) it will be in HD.   

 
I went over to my buddy's earlier and tell him I can do myself for around $40 what he wants to charge me $150 for. He's a street pharmacist and naturally a good sales person. He tells me what I can do is no good if it's not jail broken because Amazon can trace it and shut me down. Any validity to this?

Sounds to me that I would be leery of the kind of deals he would be giving me for his main profession.  

And that you will likely be hearing about him floating in your nearest river in the next few years.

I am unaware of anyone ever being prosecuted for watching a stream. You aren't downloading or taking possession of anything. It's not a yes or no question because the laws haven't ever been tested an no precident case has been set  

The websites outside of the US that posses copies of these movies would be considered illegal in the US.

Turn off Notifications under Applications.  And if he's a street famasist he's probably a little paranoid.

Yeah, it's weird - for video, I just stream.  For music, though, I still have to buy the .mp3 for some reason.  I guess it's because I only consume video in wifi areas, but I listen to music in cell data areas.

This but I still use VPN as a method of CYA. I view it the same as insurance. For $3.33/month it gives me peace of mind.

Finally started.  Free trial of amazon prime and netflix. Ordered a fire stick and an antenna.

Antenna won't pick up fox.  50 mile antenna and tower is 26 miles away.  Tried moving all over (as far as the cord will let me).  Need to figure that out.

Need to figure out how I'm going to get sec football in september (not on cbs). The kids don't watch local TV so don't need antennas there.  Will need 2-3 more fire sticks if I like the 1st one.

I'll play with the stick after we go to dinner.  Already digging amazon music though on my phone.

Sling has a $5 Sports Extra add-on with SEC Network (Main $20 service has ESPN, ESPN 2).

 
Vue (middle package), hbo, kodi, antenna.  Pretty sure this will be my starting point.  Best part is getting rid of all the cables tomorrow.  The set up is so much cleaner without cables and cable boxes.   Plus don't have to deal with dtv and signal problems.  Win win.

I'm trying out a paid TV sub add-on for Kodi called IPTVSubs.is It took ~5 mins to setup within Kodi and they offer a free trial for 24 hours which I'm rocking now, which was setup in about 15 mins on the site. They also take Bitcoin as payment which is huge. $13/mo, mostly all channels in HD. It's effectively DirecTV carding from the late 90s/early 2000's, but the channels get streamed over the internet, and more or less all of them. You have a full EPG and DVR functionality. No payment info needed for the 24 hour trial, so highly recommend giving a whirl with some freetime. I'm also on a VPN @ my router, which I would recommend in this case as well.

ExpressVPN, reason being they support L2TP VPN @ the router, which is super easy to setup. OpenVPN @ the router is a PITA to setup, and if done wrong can potentially brick the router. Not a risk I'm willing to take personally. PIA, etc. support OpenVPN, but not officially L2TP, and I don't want to buy a sub just to tinker and hit a wall. Probably don't support L2TP officially to sell pre-flashed routers, but regardless that's why i use ExpressVPN. Setting up @ the router means all connected devices, including Amazon Fire TV boxes and PC's, are on the VPN connection de facto.

VPN =Virtual Private Network

When you create a VPN, you create a pipe that ties your computer to another server out in the internet.  All information is then tagged with the IP address of the server which serves to hide your IP address from any internet access you make.

This keeps you safe when torrenting or illegal streaming and allows you to alter your location for services that are protected based on your location.

I had no idea about this, so thank you!.  Verified that I get HBOGo free with our Xfinity Internet-only package as well.  Fired up and ready to start binge watching GoT with the wife.  I tried to login to the HBOGo app on our Samsung Smart TV and apparently Xfinity doesn't support streaming to the Samsung Smart TV.   :rant:

Trying to figure out if we have any other streaming options besides watching it on the computer or a tablet...

Do they offer nfl sunday ticket and ufc ppv?   What's EPG?

 
Thanks for the vpn answers.  Pretty sure I'm not intentially doing anything shady.

Installed kodi jarvis and playing around now.  I noticed some things aren't loading when I click on it.  Normal? Do I just try again later? Things like espn on channel 1.

I had problems until I installed titanium.  Look at broncos post.

Nope, just your standard channel lineup but they have it all. I will say try them out, because I did notice some channels freezing, etc. Holding off on a sub for the time being, I did register for their forum to monitor periodically and see how it's moving along. An EPG is an Electronic Program Guide, which is what you're used to when you hit your guide on DTV/Comcast/Cox/etc. when searching for something to watch.

For exactly what you're requesting, I'd recommend sportsaccess.se, which is the private service that I use for sports. HD whenever available, multiple servers based on geography per channel. Also run non-sports channels and takes bitcoin ~$30/3mos. If on Comcast, you must use a VPN as Comcast has identified their service recently and began throttling users who utilize them without VPN. This first came about Masters Sunday and was a major PITA until I got a VPN going. My only complaint is that they don't have an EPG, which is not terrible but they won't be my dedicated service until they get that going and make sure 24/7 non-sports channels aren't being overtaken by sports, which is annoying but certainly not the end of the world. Solid service, list their channel lineup for the day in the AM from the UK for soccer and take ad-hoc requests via chat on their website.

I am unsure what you mean by shady, but much of what you are likely to use Kodi for is technically illegal similar to how downloading most types of torrents is technically illegal.

The liklihood of being caught is low, but for a cheap cost of the VPN you lower that risk to zero.

Thanks for the info.  I already have a great sports site (unfortunately not accepting new registrations) that I pay 10 bucks/month for.  The add on you mentioned seemed promising but not without sunday ticket or ufc.    Good point about the vpn.  Outside of the concern about getting in trouble, that sounds like a good reason for using one.

Researched this a little bit more and Chromecast sounds very promising.  If for some reason Xfinity blocks Chromecast while connected directly to the TV, the Chromecast also supports screen mirroring, where I should be able to play HBOGo on my laptop and then mirror the screen to the TV.  I'll order one and report back.
