I don't have time to help right now, but, there are a bunch of topics working on MKV on Fire over in the Plex forum that might help. Alternately you could just covert all the files to MP4 first.

I have read most of those already. They are band-aids at best and won't cover a majority of my files.
The files could be converted to MP4 but I have thousands of files that are sitting in MKV containers and many of them are in those containers for a specific reason in that they support formats that the MP4 container can not. Most specifically MKV supports H.264/AVC which is needed for efficient HD content playback. Most of my files are encoded using H.264/AVC
Most devices like Roku, PS4 etc support this common container class so I did not even think to look until I almost purchased it and then I found out it did not support and that is when I found all the threads trying to get MKV to work with Plex on Fire.
This is not a big deal at all since I am in no rush and I am almost certain Roku will get Vue on it fairly soon making it better for my needs that the Fire Box.

Sling just made some pretty major additions. FXX, Comedy Central, FS2, NatGeo WILD, and some other Viacom channels (MTV, Nick Jr, VH1, Spike). I think that's about 31 channels now, and FXX and CC are pretty huge deals for me. Still $20/mo.
I assume this is for the multi-stream beta package (Fox stuff, but no ESPN) only, but I'm not sure. Been rolling with the FOX package for awhile and haven't missed ESPN a bit.
I probably wasn't going to switch to Vue if/when they added Roku support, but I definitely won't now.

For free stuff, CBSNews, Pluto (4-5 24 HR news channels), and NewsOn (local news from different regions live or on demand) are probably your best bets. I most just use CNN on Sling though.JoeSteeler said:

Me either. And I can still use a family member's cable account to log onto the Watch app. I honestly can't remember the last time I used it (& I bet it hasn't been a dozen times total since October). It may have been sometime during college hoops season. Unless Maryland is playing, I'm perfectly fine with whatever the OTA networks show on Saturdays & Sundays during college football and basketball season.
Anyone know why AMC isn't available on Roku? I can watch on my IPad, but it would be nice to do so on my TV.

I've been using Kodi with the tvaddons build since winter. Installing that was simple following a video. Can anyone point me to a reliable link to install Titanium? The top Google search results end with it not installing properly so I've had to Fresh Start it a couple times now. I followed that Husham guy now but his current way is to install Something called Titan. Titanium isn't in the his site's download.
Is Titan the same thing and if not, can someone tell me where to find a reliable Titanium download method?

Thanks. Unfortunately I've tried that a few times and the Daily Updates Build (who Husham links to) doesn't seem to be working anymore. Have you tried any or recommend any other builds like Morpheus? If not, I don't want to go back to tvaddons but I may have to as it at least worked. I'm not sure what to do.

hmm, interesting. I havent used Kodi in a while so I was unaware of the issues that have been cropping up with Titanium. Husham is a very reliable source on all the Kodi happenings, so I'd for sure look at whatever he is posting about possible alternatives. Like I said, Ive been out of the loop for a while. I need to see what he's posted to get updated. Apologize for sending outdated info.
I do know that Husham himself put together his own build that would probably be a good alternative in the short term..

I tried to switch from Tvaddons because of a video someone posted above about them being a bad provider. Plus I've been having a tough time finding any working Euro 2016 streams so I thought I'd switch it up. Oops

I am now 5 months free and completely in the black as of last week. Beginning last week, I now save $$ every month.
A very quick summary of my experience for the newcomers:
MY internet is 50mbs down/~15 up
My router is an ASUS 87ac And it is AWESOME.
Modem is an Aris Surfboard 6 series and it is AWESOME.
Two Apple TV boxes. Both are streaming wirelessly. One is physically on the same floor and about 20 feet away and the other is on a different floor and about 40 feet away. I am overall very satisfied with the streaming experience. We HAVE had days here or there when the streaming wasn't rock solid but I don't have either hard-wired, live in a house with massive rock and density issues and at any given time we typically have 8-9 devices connected so all in all I can't complain. I could probably step it up a notch and runs some hardwires but it is at "mild inconvenience" stage.
Let's see, we have Apple products and they all just work as they should. The mirroring is especially nice. We tend to download Apps to the ipad and mirror the broadcast just as much as we download to the Apple tv. No real noticeable difference in playback between the two.
I always see a lot of the guys in this thread saying a big barrier is the wife's preference for Hallmark, Bravo, A&E, and all those channels. We have been able to satisfy all those wants. To be honest, my biggest complaint is the Watch ESPN app. For whatever reason it is like an act of Pentagon security sometimes to log in (Very finicky).
Kodi works with the setup, although I never use it so can't really go farther than to say it was compatible.
One of the quirkiest things I have noticed that impacts streaming reliability has been if I have my MacBook Pro on, it will sometimes slow the streaming down and bog it down quite a bit. I HAVE had to be aware of which devices are on 2.4 and which are on 5ghz to optimize streaming.
I think that's it. Just trying to mention anything I remember having questions about in the beginning and I don't see too many APPLE users in here so thought I'd share periodically. Happy cutting!

Tvaddons is a program installation that installs addons from the fusion repository for you through the program drop down instead of doing it manually through the settings. There is no reason other than convenience to have tvaddons if you have installed the fusion repository.
Morpheus, Titanium and Beast are all builds. Builds are custom built versions of Kodi where the all the skins and menus have been changed along with added functionality. The builds will also automatically install most of the best repos, and their addons for you. For example; if you install the Titanium build it will come with the Titan repository installed and all off the addons housed in Titan will be available for you under the Titan tab. This Titan tab is added functionality because they would normally show up under the Movies or TV Shows tabs.
All that being said I have not gone back and updated any of my devices since Titanium had a glitch and told everyone to Fresh Start and reinstall after the 5-19-16 build so I don't know if there is an issue with the current build right now or not. I'll most likely get around to that this weekend and I will let you know if you are still having troubles. Another thing to note is if you are trying out different builds always Fresh Start between builds as they aren't compatible with each other; writing over existing files etc. Also, if on a firestick always unplug and reboot the firestick after installation of a new build (do not force start or back out to the home page). Always unplug after a Fresh Start too.

MY Apple tv boxes are the most recent versions. As I mentioned, I don't really do much with it at all so I have not attempted to make it a part of the Apple tv interface itself. I installed it and simply mirrored the viewing from MacBook Pro to tv.

I read recently that Microsoft is going to add DVR functionality to the Xbox (or maybe it will be a standalone product). I only got my very first console (Xbox One) this month but it seems to me that with the hauppauge TV tuner, Mohu leaf and a DVR the Xbox is trying to become a one-stop solution for cutting the cable. What's the downside?
I've got everything in my entertainment center running through the Xbox pass through. I prefer its interface for everything that doesn't have to be on my htpc (kodi & nfl ticket). The hauppauge tv on wmc is the tv selection on the Xbox. I like it. I got one remote plus the Xbox controller and it's simple enough the old lady has it figured out. I like it.

1) I use Kodi to watch previously aired tv shows and movies. For example: I don't subscribe to any service that has HBO, AMC, etc. But Kodi allows me to watch Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, I just have to wait until Monday.Chaka said:

Interesting info about the NFL, I have done the VPN (in the opposite direction, into the US) when travelling abroad so I could get my Pandora, Spotify etc. Although the NFL offers Sunday Ticket as an online only package, NBC has put the Sunday night game online for a couple years now so that really only leaves MNF, and maybe some Thursday night games, as an issue.

I think tonydead said that Turkey is the best country to use for NFL Sunday Ticket - lowest price.
Just to follow up: the latest Titanium build is just fine (6/7/16). It even extracts itself in Windows now.
Not sure I understand all that. You don't need to pay for any of that if you have kodi, but, that's a personal preference I guess. There isn't any difference between online nfl if you have your htpc attached to your big screen. Watching your favorite team doesn't work each week unless you live in that market and they don't blackout, and red zone is nice for when they aren't playing. (The streaming services Vue and Sling have ESPN for Monday night as an alternate choice). They are going to stream a number of Thursday games this year, I think, for free to test the streaming market.
That's just the one I chose and use. Some markets are more expensive like Hong Kong ($175,or something like that). They try to get as much $ as they can based on the demand. Just click around to find one that's the cheapest with good speed. $125 was the cheapest last year.

Well the issue I have is that if I don't need to pay to watch, for example, Game of Thrones (or any content that is normally paid) then I am guessing it would not be viewed as legal. So if I don't want to go that route* then it seems that Kodi would be superfluous to just using Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/HBO Now + OTA.
*I did the torrent thing for years so I am not frowning upon or judging those who choose to do the equivalent with streaming, it's just not for me anymore.
No one has ever been prosecuted for watching a stream (vs downloading). You never take possession of anything and there has never been a precedent set whether it would be viewed as legal or not. At least not that I am aware of.

I am aware that no one has been prosecuted, but it is still illegal to stream paid content that you didn't pay for and there is not much question about that (splitting your neighbors cable stream is illegal and you never take possession of that content either). I am out of that game. No big deal, it's just not for me anymore.
You took possession of the cable which belongs to the cable company. Again unless you can provide case law precedent you can't call it illegal.

It would be hypocritical of me to judge others for doing it but I just choose not to do it anymore. Saying that isn't illegal is really just a semantic argument because we all know that taking stuff that costs money without paying for it is illegal. The case law may not have caught up with that yet but I think we all know how it will turn out when some prosecutor turns their attention in that direction.
Again, I have no problem with others doing it but I simply choose not to. But don't try to sell it as all fine and dandy just because it technically resides in legal gray area for now.
So awesome that you can see into the future. Right now though it's not illegal because you have nothing to back up your claim.

To be honest, I wish there were two cord cutting threads... one that covers how to pay less for paid content, and the other that covers how to get paid content for free. While things like OTA antenna content would be similar in both, the rest of the content is quite different. There's just a lot of stuff in this thread that I would never do and there's really no way of filtering it out without putting some people on ignore.
I lot of stuff? There is very little that even the copyright police would claim is illegal. Kodi in of itself is open source, legal, and a pretty powerful home entertainment software. Some addons allow you to watch paid content for free, but, those discussions aren't very frequent because Exodus has been the top dog for months now.
