What are '07 picks worth in a '06 rookie draft? (1 Viewer)

Been debating with a guy in a dynasty league about the value of '07 picks. We are currently drafting for '06 picks. I say that '07 picks are worth a round less then '06 picks. ('07 1st is worth '06 2nd) Anyone care to chime in on this?

In non-IDP leagues 2nd round rookie picks hold very little value. I probably wouldn't trade even as far as a 2010 first round pick for a current 2nd rounder.

IDP 50 man rosters

2006 picks should be = to 2007 picks.
How does anyone know what the picks in '07 will be right now? Pick in hand should always be worth more, imo.

In some ways I tend to agree of equal value but in other ways disagree as well and can see ways future picks hold more value actually.

The way I see it picks are like new cars....once they get driven off the showroom floor they decrease tremendously in value.

So, once you use a pick on a player it's now OK show me.

But, the mystique of a future pick holds a lot of value because there is that always unknown "what if" element involved that many people desire.

It depends on the draft class and where you think the 2007 pick will be.

In a completely random situation, I suppose I'd put a value on the 2006 1st = 2006 2nd + 2007 1st.

i would never give up a higher pick such as a 1st rounder in a future year in order to get a must have player in the 2nd round of the current year.
i guess this is really my point. you can say.. yeah but what if this and what if that... bottom line, all rookie picks are gambles, but first round picks are what you want to have. i would never ever trade a future first rounder for a current second rounder. thats just not smart imo.
I don't think you actually believe that a 2006 pick is worth the same as a 2007 pick. If that were the case I'd keep trading you my next year's pick for your current one and you'd never get to use it. A future 1st for a current 2nd is probably excessive, but it really depends on how you think you'll do. If you think you can win the league then a 2006 2nd (13th pick) is just as good as a 2007 1st (12th pick).
