With apologies to Wheelhouse and Patrick Bateman, this question needs to be answered. Well not really but whatever.
As much as I suspect this is a racist comment, I will agree that black olives are terrible.Anyone saying black doesnt know anything about olives
Not racist at all. Just an honest assessment from a man who has eaten at least 2 dozen different olive varietiesAs much as I suspect this is a racist comment, I will agree that black olives are terrible.Anyone saying black doesnt know anything about olives
For shame, Aaron. For shame.
...but they know what they like.Anyone saying black doesnt know anything about olives
I will not eat black or green olives. They're disgusting. But Kalamata's I'll eat by the shovelful.
Yepcanned black olives are terrible. I don't even eat them on pizza. I get green olives on my pizza.
kalamatas are great though.
ETA: I will tolerate black olives on nachos because, come on...nachos
Good posting--there is no 'one size fits all'.If we're talking a salad, Niçoise
If we're talking a drink, Picholine
If we're talking a pasta salad, Gaeta
if we're talking a pizza, Black
Holyland deli in Minneapolis has a nice selection of olivesI like anything Sicilian or Spanish.
Eat these with excellent beer.
Whole Foods has a terrific selection but if you want to learn something try to find some Italian grocery or importer somewhere. I know a place in New Orleans, but I'm sure these can be found any place with a sizable Italian immigration history.
I do too lolBIg green ones with the pit still in them. Detest the black olives.
It's like the Pizza Hut of olives.I will not eat black or green olives. They're disgusting. But Kalamata's I'll eat by the shovelful.![]()
And black olives are for children to put on their fingers.
Green spanish type olives. Its not baloney its olive loaf. Not sure what it is made of but it tastes hamlikewhat are the ones they put in bologna? I remember my mom occasionally making my sandwich with this stuff. I would poke out all the green things and eat them separate. Now that's fine dining.
Just changed my vote to FANCY because it's not some generic green olive that you can find on the street.DA RAIDERS said:castelvetrano. technically green. unreal olive
No. That canned crap any cheap pizzeria uses are generic tasting because of ferrous sulfate which artificially turns them black but to get a nice plate of Spanish, Greek, Tunisian, Italian, French, or Moroccan and that is fantastic eating.DSP said:Not saying I dont like black olives. You are right I was referring to the canned. I assumed that is what the OP meantNo. That canned crap any cheap pizzeria uses are generic tasting because of ferrous sulfate which artificially turns them black but to get a nice plate of Spanish, Greek, Tunisian, Italian, French, or Moroccan and that is fantastic eating.A nice sauteed piece of white fish with black olives and harissa? Delicious!DSP said:Not saying I dont like black olives. They are just pretty generic tasting
Once you go green you need a new spleen.once you go black you will never eat green again!
Olives have different tastes. The brine is needed to break down the fiber in the olives. Raw olived are not palatableDoes it bother any of you that you are essentially just tasting brine?
