I went with I don't like olives because you suck, but certain olives drenched in vodka as part of a martini (and no, crazy old lady at the bar I wen to next week, that doesn't include vermouth), are ok.

Blue cheese stuffed olives in a martini are fine. Jalapeno stuffed olives in a martini, also fine. Regular olives in a martini, ok.

Olives in any context that doesn't include booze= disgusting.

If we're talking a salad, Niçoise

If we're talking a drink, Picholine

If we're talking a pasta salad, Gaeta

if we're talking a pizza, Black

Throw some black olives on a hoagie and I'm in heaven.

The wife went through a crazy phase with greens during one of her pregnancies. I never understood the hype. Other than wearing them on your fingertips. That's just good business.

I prefer the giant green olives. Especially in a bloody mary or red beer. But, I also like black olives on salads or pizza or just by themselves. Never heard or tried that other stuff.

canned black olives are terrible. I don't even eat them on pizza. I get green olives on my pizza.

kalamatas are great though.

ETA: I will tolerate black olives on nachos because, come on...nachos

I like anything Sicilian or Spanish.

Eat these with excellent beer.

Whole Foods has a terrific selection but if you want to learn something try to find some Italian grocery or importer somewhere. I know a place in New Orleans, but I'm sure these can be found any place with a sizable Italian immigration history.

I think green olives on pizza are 100000000000000 times better than black olives. Will get a pizza with just green olives or green olives and mushrooms...delicious. Black are fine for nachos or salads, but green are the best by a wide margin.

I think green olives are better on average, but I think the best black olives are better than the best green olives -- ligurian olives, for example.

For unstuffed olives, Kalamata are the best.

For stuffed, green with jalepenos, bacon, and blue cheese are all pretty strong.

Holyland deli in Minneapolis has a nice selection of olives

I actually celebrate all olives, but these really are the best by far:

castelvetrano. technically green. unreal olive
Just changed my vote to FANCY because it's not some generic green olive that you can find on the street.

Not saying I dont like black olives. They are just pretty generic tasting
No. That canned crap any cheap pizzeria uses are generic tasting because of ferrous sulfate which artificially turns them black but to get a nice plate of Spanish, Greek, Tunisian, Italian, French, or Moroccan and that is fantastic eating.

A nice sauteed piece of white fish with black olives and harissa? Delicious!

You are right I was referring to the canned. I assumed that is what the OP meant

I like any kind of cured olive

Does it bother any of you that you are essentially just tasting brine?
Olives have different tastes. The brine is needed to break down the fiber in the olives. Raw olived are not palatable
