What are the chances Willis McGahee is done for the year? (1 Viewer)

Any Buffalo homers have any idea how long Willis McGahee is going to be out for? Is there any chance Buffalo shuts him down for the season?

I have had a broken rib. And I can tell you I wasn't the same for a couple months after my injury. And I wasn't running away from 350 pound lineman.

I was looking for the same answer. With Buffs season circling the bowl, you would think they would sit McGahee the rest of the season to prevent further damage.

I'm thinking about grabbing McGahee as a backup for the fantasy playoffs. Will he be back and performing by weeks 14-16? Is he worth grabbing in a buy-low situation (like for Droughns or some other spare RB) or should I be worried about his productivity upon his return...or worried about his return period?

Even if he does return. I would think given the nature of the injury and how well A.Thomas is playing he might split carries.I don't see any reason to bring him back unless he is 100%

Try and make an educated guess.

Reference one

Reference Two

In 2002, Brad Johnson missed one week (week 10) with a fractured left rib. He returned the next week and as you know they went on to win the SB.

In 1997, Deion Sanders missed the final three games of the Cowboy's season with a rib fracture.

Tony Fisher missed two games (9&10) last season with the Packers with a rib fracture.

My guess is that with three ribs, the area of pain is more diffuse. He's missed one game, and I would not be surprised if he missed another 3.

I think the main concern here is fantasy playoffs (at least it is with me). My reasoning is why would they want to bring Willis (will still be tender) back for just 3 games without a shot in the dark of making the playoffs. If he we were to come back then it would be nice for the Atrain owners who have made their playoffs, like myself, to know so we can move ATrain before our trade deadlines (rapidly approaching) to an on the fence type team for another player we might be able to use during the playoffsETA: Sure he might be able to tolerate the pain and play but what is the point when the games are meaningless

the latest report i've seen out of buffalo is that a-train will be starting this week and most likely next week as well and after that, its up in the air depending how well/quickly willis recovers.. Apparently McGahee was in the training facility this week, walking upright(couldn't do last week) and looked much better, having a lil "pep in his step" so to speak. I'd assume that despite the Bills season going down the crapper, if Willis can play, he will play. Its not like the portis situation, where he has the opportunity to get the rest of his injuries healed up. McGahee's type of injury usually keeps players out between 1-5 weeks depending on the severity. One broken rib and two cracked ribs in his case should keep him out somewhere between 3-5 weeks, most likely having him back by the time playoffs roll around.

Nothing is definate of course, but that is just my opinion based off the latest i've seen regarding McGahee. Having both willis and a-train is the safest bet, if getting willis is possible without hurting your starting roster, go for it.
