What do I do? (A thread about trades.) (1 Viewer)

Eminence

Footballguy
I've been talking trades with this guy in dynasty. Gritting my teeth and working out a hell of a deal. Understanding how much he valued my players.

So to my surprise, I receive an offer that I clearly had to take. I click the "Accept Button" and the next screen confirms it but wait, there's a problem.

"This trade would make Team B exceed hard cap."

I go out and e-mail the guy telling him to clear $5 of cap space (that's a very small amount, out cap is $550).

He responds back saying he now thinks he was paying too much for said player.

Trade off.

Do I throw a fuss? Try to negotiate further? Grit my teeth and walk away?

Seems like a stupid reason to not be able to trade. Why was he even allowed to offer an invalid trade?

Thanks MFL.

Throw a fuss. He has no right to not trade with you after the two of you negotiated that long. Post it on your league message boards, if possible, post a video. This kind of thing is what makes leagues not fun. Throw a fuss because he needs to be called out. Geez!

I disagree.

Throwing a fuss will only lessen any chance you still have at a deal. A verbal agreement doesn't set the deal in stone, unfortunately. And if he is called out if front of league mates, he is that much more unlikely to want to deal with you. Now or later.

If you really want/need the deal, sweeten it up a bit for him. Clearly you were close, but he must've seen or read something that made him reconsider. Kill'm with kindness.

I wouldn't say anything. the trade may be nice to make , but this is the type of thing that can hurt your reputation in that league. Unless you don't care about that, in that league. Also, your trade partner may have felt that whatever he had to do to free up the cap space put the deal over the edge value wise. I don't play in or know much about contract, auction, salary cap leagues, so maybe it's no big deal. But every player does have some sort of value even if it's minimal.

Don't throw a fuss, you will look bad and it is just a bad thing to do. I know it has taken some work to get this far, but it would be far worse to not put in some more time and effort to make it work than to just let it all go that time and effort go to waste.

For the lovd of god do NOT listen to tbis advice. Acting like a two yr old does not bode well with how other GMs will view you as a potential trade partner and really will automaticaly shut down any possible future trades with said partner. Id try to negotiate further and if nothing comes of it then let it be... maybe privately let other owners know how said owner is in negotiations as a prenup to maybe working out a deal elsewhere without the headaches.

That is one of the strangest things I've heard. He has no right? Are you kidding me, its his team, and no one is forced to trade with anyone. You have no right pretending you know something about fantasy football after that comment.

I've won my main league 5 times in the last 9 years. I've only missed the playoffs once. I know more about fantasy football than you.

Congrats, and welcome to the shark tank... take this advice as you will but your not making friends in here with the knee jerk reactions and pompous assumptions you label on people just in this thread.

Winning your league amongst your People Inc. "co-workers" must be quite the accomplishment.

Stop whining?

Totally freak out about it. Whine and complain like a little kid. Owners are not allowed to change their mind before a trade has been made.

Um, I have more Shark cred than you, bro. Enjoy the first pick in next years draft.

This thread is making me contemplate opening an eBay store and selling shark cred. My first thought is that it would be made of guppy chum...maybe something like $15 US for 5 lbs of shark cred? Too much? Not enough?

No one thinks it is unethical to offer trades that cannot be accepted? This was not a verbal agreement. Offer was sent, accept button pressed.

An MFL error was the issue here. Not anyone "backing out".
