What does the confederate flag mean to you? (1 Viewer)

My Confederate Flag had been stored away for a very long time. Brought that sucker out yesterday and it now flows freely in the wind.
What about your Klan hood? How long has that been in storage? Does it need to be dry cleaned or can it just go in the regular wash?

I think it's rather ironic that many people here were claiming a month ago that white people shouldn't have an opinion on the word "nigg a" are the same people that think a flag is racist.

Does someone have an updated list of everything we're supposed to get offended by, get up in arms about, and worry about what someone else is doing or saying?

Don't tell me the rebel flag is a symbol of slavery and racism while you put your hand over your heart while listening to someone at your favorite sporting event sing the anthem of a Nation while your eyes stare at that Nations symbol with pride in your heart while that flag flew over many a slave ship.

This is the mentality of Farakhan.

This is the mentality behind take that damn flag down.

You know your typical rebel flag waving racist would not hide behind their locked doors and when the police come would not say they did not see anything I swear hearing their neighbors cry for help or from the grave screaming for justice.

Even if they did not share the same color of skin.

I wonder why those who shared Shabazz skin tone in Charleston did not follow his lead like Baltimore.

Yes Nicey X there are those who are tired of hearing about forgiveness.

They do not reside in theSouth.

America is a racist Nation.Love it or laugh at it.

Do other countries create monuments to dead leaders of failed rebellions?

I think it's absolutely worth remembering history and learning about Confederate leaders, but monuments/flags commemorating the Confederacy should never have been allowed on public property to begin with.
Obviously. There were civil wars all over Europe as nobles vied for leadership. Quite a few castles and monuments.

Actually Mexico, Cuba, several in Europe, I think there are quite a few actually.

There's an odd little memorial in NO to a guy named Hosuth who led a revolt in Hungary around 1848 I believe.

Digging the guy up doesn't seem a little loony to you?

The arguments by those still trying to fly the Confederate flag make no sense to me. In the end, it doesn't matter what YOU think that flag stands for. Flags are symbols, and the meaning of symbols can change. If enough people see it as a symbol of hate and repression, than the symbol should be relegated to historical uses only. IE: Not flown on top of state capital buildings or in a front yard. Overt racists use that flag to show their supremicist pride so it's time for Southerners wishing to distance themselves from racism to find a new symbol.

That said, the recent outburst against all things confederate has gotten out of hand. War memorials that have stood for 100 years are suddenly under attack, and retailors are afraid to sell board games just because the flag is in them (even though it's there in historical context). Memorials are an appropriate historical context. The backlash has gone too far.

ya but Daisy Mae Duke was hot so we turned a blind eye to the flag

Look at all those symbols of hate. The number of people seeing the American flag in that context is miniscule. The confederate flag, not so small.
What's the full list of what we should be offended by? Who makes those decisions?

Liberals and the media. Have you not been keeping up?

The rebel flag three decades ago was the dukes of hazzard.
The General Lee had to be gay. He always had a couple of dudes in him.

Also, the show had 20 male characters and 1 female... pretty easy math there.
Sure, but one of the guys was named Cooter.
And another named Clitus.

I'm hardly the one to worry about offending people in general, and have never been one for "PC". This one though, really isn't that hard. That flag is the banner proudly displayed by virtually every white supremicist group in the country. It doesn't belong on a capital building. Free speech being what it is, fly it in your own yard if you wish, but do so with the full knowledge that their are MANY people who find it offensive, and that it does not hold the same meaning to everyone that it may to you flying it.

The purpose of symbols and speech is to deliver a message. If the message received isn't what you mean to send, than you have to change the symbols and speech. Regardless of intent, that flag is just a symbol, and it needs to change. So....if you're actually a white supremicist who would rather string a black man up a tree than talk to him, keep the flag in your yard so at least folks know who you are.

(Please note that I also stated that I am opposed to taking down confederate war memorials, and believe that the hoopla against the flag has gone overboard/too far.)

:lmao:
America is a racist Nation.Love it or laugh at it.
Ok, I'll play...some we shouldn't do anything?
It isn't playing. Look at the glee in the eyes of those who see that rebel flag coming down.Listen to the joy of hearing our great corporate giants are no longer selling that racist symbol.

You did something.

Now what?
Ok
Now what?Are we healed?

Are we one?

Let's play. It's a ####### game to play so let's play America 9 people got gunned downed and the rebel flag came down.

Now what?
Now what, what?
Now we ###### play a ###### game!
SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?

Been almost 4 hours without anyone crying about that horrible piece of cloth. I see mine is still flying in Wisconsin though. Even a liberal city like the one I reside in finds the uproar over this silly. The left moral authority has really outdone itself this time.

Actually, on this forum, I think the number offended by the American flag is pretty high.

I haven't been keeping up to date with this, but who all, exactly, is "coming after" the flag?

Some in SC trying to get it taken down from the state capitol (sensible, even if the timing seems reactionary).

Apple with the games, but I'm sure they'll backtrack and end up selling a bunch more games with confederate flags in them than they otherwise would've.

Is the eBay and Amazon thing real? I saw some FB whining about it, but I usually don't read those posts/links.

For the rest of the country, I'd assume the sentiment probably remains the same, just with people expressing their opinions more than usual. 95% of the country has no interest in flying or owning one because, you know, doing so makes you look like a racist and/or white trash. The rest is some combination of actual white trash waiting to mount it on their trucks during black biker week at Myrtle Beach and some somewhat sensible folks that really do view it as a wonderful, proud symbol of their beloved South and like it enough to deal with the fact that others will think they are racist white trash for flying it.

It's a lot of hubbub for a flag that the majority of Americans might never have seen again for the rest of their lives.
